i hate always being corrected for calling it soccer. first off, the english created the name as a shortened version of association rules football. also, like you said, its the world's sport, its involved in so many cultures so calling it soccer is just as exceptable as calling it calcio like the italians, or fussball like the germans, they dont litterally mean football, but just derived from the english form
