  • My Happy song!! :)

  • I love, love, love this song!!

Went to see The Beat recently - minus Dave Wakeling of course - but Roger is still Ranking and they were bloody fab!! This was the 3rd time I've seen them and would go again tomorrow!! Fan-bloody-tastic!!

  • @thedaviesgang24 Ranking Roger's beat played here in Christchurch, New Zealand around three years ago. I can honestly say, without a hint of exaggeration, that it was one of the best nights of my life and I've seen heaps of bands.

  • @ribblock1 .........I couldn't have said it better.

  • Think I'll pop into the local tonight for a pint. They have this on the juke. Cheers!

  • CLASSIC SONG:)

  • good music, that´s all

  • A kick-ass tune I've just become aware of.....;o)

  • top song top band seen them live in 79 ,good times

  • I enjoyed this trip into the past. I wish I could've jumped into that video and stayed there. Thanks to whomever put this on.

  • One of the very best songs of the 80s....Dave Wakeling has a great voice deep and soulful.....

  • 43 people are GAY

  • I loved this song. I sat through bad videos on MTV just to see this one. Dave Wakeling has an amazing voice. When I think of early 80's music, this is what I think of.

  • i think the music of the 80s are definitely one of the best music era in the history of music, great singers, great band and lot of energy...

  • The 80s featured some of the worst music in human history...ego driven schlock. But, here and there, some bands were making some good noise....like The English Beat.

  • @jmeredith44 too right but only if you stayed tuned to Fab FM ( during the day at least) and especia;lly now, if people judge 80's music by the bilge that commercial local radio plays that is so sad. I mean, Chain reaction, FFS!!

  • Does anyone know where this video was filmed?

  • @relinad78 San Francisco

  • This brings back a lot of old memories and good times.

  • They're still simply called "The Beat" to me.

  • I'm so pissed that I missed them! They were playing in Hermosa the other day and I found out after the fact. I heard that the blonde guy and another band member lives in Hermosa....does anyone know? If I were a teenager, I would have stalked them down, haha! I used to LOVE THEM!

  • i'm glad so many other people have good memories associated with this song. its so good, i literally teared up. seriously one of the greatest songs of all time.

  • I used to go to the roughest night club in town (Ma Peels Dewsbury, West Yorks) and this tune used to play, whilst there was fights 'en mass' between the locals and the gypsies. Thanks for posting a great tune!

  • 43 dislikes !!! whats wrong with these people no taste or what ??? brillant tune !!

  • i love to get stoned

  • Went to see them last night (minus Dave Wakeling) and they were bloody fab!!

  • good ol song.

  • My channel's full of The Specials' music, and I know I'll continue to add more & more of it.Yet at the time, I was listening to the Beat! I still have all my albums but it's the 1st time I see this video & I ADORE it!

    I like the 50s French touch in it: with J. Greco's album & F. Sagan's book ''Aimez-vous Brahms?''

On my albums the band's name is The Beat, just like it was on Sting's t-shirt when he was in The Police. And I'm from Montréal btw, so why do you all call them the English Beat?

  • @daypeshmodd Because there was already a band in America called The Beat.

  • @culwin I always knew that, even if I doubt anyone here ever heard of that obscure other Beat. As I said, I live in Montreal, that's in America too, even if not in the US. The Beat from UK is only known as the English Beat in the US & nowhere else, cos they were threatened by Columbia with a lawsuit if they didn't change their name...but ONLY in the US. Otherwise, they could keep their real name everywhere else.

The other band had to change their name as well.

    (cont...)

  • @culwin 2

Wiki:''The Brit ska group of the same name were first to establish themselves as "The Beat" in Europe, prompting a voluntary decision for the US group to be billed as "Paul Collins' Beat" in Europe. In the US, Collins' "The Beat" was first to release an album in turn forcing the British group to use the name "The English Beat" in the US''..The US Beat kept the name 'P Cs Beat' for good after the success of the UK Beat.

We should call by their REAL name this BRILLIANT ska band!

  • I loved being a MOD in the eighties

  • ahhhhhh i <3 them!

  • These guys killed man. This is as fine a dance pop song that there ever was

  • @bloykunker to say the least.....

  • Kurt - Welcome to 50?! Leslie

  • Dave Wakling...umm umm um!

  • Great times ... the clothes, dancing, friends, good music and cute BOYS. Agreed, it was a great time to be a teenager! BTW, I saw these guys live in boring old Sacramento, California, and we (incl. the band, just a few feet away) had a rocking time!

  • The English Beat still play around Sam Francisco all the time. Saw them in Faitfax and they did this song. It was a hoppin time, standing room only.

  • .41 ranking roger has gloves on, .53 he doesn't : )

absolutely love the tune, the video, the whole vibe...it's such a kick-ass feeling after being down for so long. thank you so much for posting this video, i wish i was there right now sharing in what seems to be such a fun place...especially with that blonde and brunette at 2:16 : )

  • almost sounds like Fine Young Cannibals!

  • @yasser69 because the two guitarist (are brothers i think) in the fine young cannibals is from this band :)

  • Whatever happened this kind of music? Long live 60's through 90's music!!!

  • @MrAxeEdent I'm glad I was a teen in these times also and being one of those cute girls.

  • @moonsong66 Well im sure you are still cute. Yes, we all get older but this music runs in my blood and im glad you were around as well.

  • "the second British invasion" is a vastly underappreciated time in music. This era gave us some excellent, innovative music like this song.

  • It was a great time to be young...

  • Should be "The Beat" - a/k/a in the US "The English Beat"

  • DVS

  • I can save anything for later, except a chance to listen to this song!

  • Add this video to "Watch Later" for maximum meta effect.

  • good song i remember listening to this !!!!!

  • i love English Beat, this song and the video.

  • Dude at 0:56 is reading Capital. I can't tell which Volume. It looks like he has all three there. Volume 1's full title is Capital: A Critical Analysis of Capitalist Production. That might be the Progress Publisher's edition.

Unless he read it at least 25 times before, he won't assimilate its analysis in a beat club while listening to music.

  • This is what kids miss today...Youre own sub Culture to belong to. Now eveything is homogenised. No individuality.Even so called 'Goths' buy style off the peg.In late 70s early 80s you had so many youth cultures.Im glad those times were my formative years.I dont think well ever see such an explosion of diverse styles again....sadly! :(

  • @stevobath It was the same then as it is now. To be cool you had to wear the right shoes and the right jeans. Brand Name was where it was at. Of course you could be a pot freak or a geek or an dweeb and be cast out. Those were your "sub-cultures".

Extracting anything from the video or the band name, the term "beat" was recycled here from the late 50's. The video was an homage back two and a half decades to the beat movement. The 80's weren't beat.

  • @toolkien But there were more recocgnised cultures. Im afraid Ill have to dis agree. Also Im talking from my own experience in UK NOT USA.

  • @toolkien But there were more recocgnised cultures. Im afraid Ill have to dis agree. Also Im talking from my own experience in UK NOT USA.Oh. Who said the 80s were 'beat' whatever that means? To me its the name of a band in the context of this video/response!

  • Max, you hav'nt missed anything.....take a few 3d design classes at your local C C or art school excentricity is alive and well there...and still a lot of fun!!

  • What a great Brit pop band with its mass appeal by cultivating multiple genres, serving all with a slightly haunted but feel-good result.

  • Pearl Jam

  • Here's an early MTV classic!

  • @JOSECHETATRIBUTE Truthfuly, I don't recal this song / vid ever being played on MTV very often.

  • @Skulldini No, good songs rarely did. :(

  • @Sue71 Yeah, for my part, MTV ALWAYS pretty much sucked ( in an over-all sense anyway ), .. even way back THEN. Sure, it may've been better than it is today, .. . but THAT ain't saying a whole hell of alot !

  • @Skulldini Too true! LOL!

  • I met them briefly before a concert in Chapel Hill, NC back in spring of '82. Best band I've ever seen live. They were opening for REM. I left the concert when REM came on, went home.

  • Love love love the dancing - I had a dress like that :)

  • @merchantsofmilton These were some great times. I remember the clothes, dancing, friends, and the cute girls. I am so glad I was a teen in this decade of music.

  • @MrAxeEdent You lucky son of a bitch. I was born 30 years too late!

  • @MrAxeEdent Man, early 80s were so much better than late 80s

  • Reminds me of a good friend who died in 1982 while we were in high school. Although we were rivet-heads, he really liked this song when MTV played the video (back when MTV was what it was meant to be). Still makes me wanna cry when I hear it.

R.I.P. "Fall Guy". We still miss you.

  • I like The 2-Tone

  • This song is amazing!

High school sweet heart Stacey and I loved this song!

I think you all can fill in the rest!

  • super classic!!!

  • @wildswan66 you bet!

  • a coming of age anthem for falling in love 35 years ago..

  • good stuff

  • "...must be a sucker for this.." how true, Dave.

  • 80s-bad clothes but great music like english beat, the beatles , acdc, the doors, led lepplin, rolling stones, queen etc ...and im only 10!!!! lol anyways first time i listened to the band loved it!!!

  • @webkinzlovecassie it's ok to not know this because you're only 10, but basically none of those bands are from the 80s

  • @webkinzlovecassie The clothes are bad today too!

  • "We don't have a cow. We have a bull..."

  • Beautiful song Today and Yesterday!! Dedicated From: Phillip to ;Heather sooner or later ...You'll find out.

  • The greatest song in the pop canon. Period. Go on, name another!

  • i saw the english beat a few months ago, Dave Wakeling's voice is still golden, but he has lost those beautiful cheekbones!

  • This song was just as good live last saturday ;D

    It was a dope show!!

  • what part of England is this guy from and were was this video filmed?

  • @Intrestable yes.........

  • better leather la

  • One of the best things about the 80's is that there was more music types to choose from than you could shake a stick at. Most with original sounds.

Was it all good? Never is.

But with all those choices there was a damn site more goodness than these past 20+ years worth.

    Case in point.

    The Beat.

And I don't know who that other Beat is. But I can guarantee that they sucked compared to This BEAT.

  • I was 15 years old when they released this song. Seeing the video, it strikes me what a fantastic song it is. It's got a simplicity to it but depth as well.

  • @Intrestable maybe

  • love the tune

  • I remember hearing this in Sky High, when I was in third grade. I didn't realize it was a remake, but now I can actually appreciate it.

  • great video!cool song

  • Mostest underatedest song ever. You still rock Dave!

  • saw them in Temecula CA...good show

  • What an amazing song, can't believe I'm 35 and only heard it for the first time last week (thanks Triple R Melbourne!) Don't know how many times I listened to it since then though - let's just say a lot... =)

  • the guy at 00:10 looks like gaz mayall

  • This was about fifteen minutes away from all of these admirable-looking models and actors disappearing, with the gas station grease monkeys and the bus station bums taking over the music and MTV.

    Sad. No, pathetic.

  • One of the best Beat songs ever!!! I've had the pleasure of knowing Dave for about 15 yrs now, and I never get tired of any of his music when I see him perform!!!

  • loved those days!

this song reminds me of the OG Polo perfume in the green bottle, VW scirocco and a bar mitzvah almost every weekend- lol

  • One could almost imagine this scene taking place back in the 80's. Different time for sure.

  • @coolsouthernrain75 Actually they were portraying a "beat club" from the early 60's. The people there were beatniks or the original hipsters.

  • @bullikins ........Thanks.

  • The free show in San Jose California on July 21st was awesome. I danced for 2+ hours. They are still full of energy. And I am still recovering.

  • when i was 10 kingpin was the movie that made me love this song.

  • Can anybody tell me where to buy the tickets in Modesto, Calif.? I think they are performing on July 22. Their tour guide is not listing it.

  • I cant say for sure, but even the girls back then seemed to be very pristine. Unlike some women of today. I guess I just miss that classic look of a woman. I love this decade of music and the memories that came along with it :)

  • catchy song and great band.

  • Going to see these guys for free at the San Francisco Stern Grove Festival! It's gonna be AWESOME!!!!!

  • I love the Beat and they certainly have some ska songs. This is NOT one of them, however. They were a band much like The Police -- ska influences

  • Screw dumploads of cash, I wish I had a time machine. Take me back to the eccentric decades that I never got to experience. Clearly, I was born in the wrong decade.

  • @Maxmulham While I'm at it. Take me to England!

  • @Maxmulham me too, I was in high school in the early '80's and this was a have, but I've actually grown to love it even more than I did then, testament to great tune, that hold up 30 years later

  • @Maxmulham you just same hot tub time machine? haha.

  • @kikomiko1 To be honest, I did see that movie and I thought it sucked. Even though I was born in '91, I do remember when skiiers typically wore bright vibrant colourful outfits which the movie captured notably. Otherwise I wouldn't really recommend it. With that said, I hate these revived programs on contemporary TV (such as the new Hawaii Five-O series, The new A-Team movie). They just had to modernize the crap out of it and remove everything sentimental about it. Pity really.

  • @Maxmulham DUDE I fucking love that movie! Just watched it for the fifth time tonight.

  • @Maxmulham

If your talking about Johnny Cash , you might wanna be thankful for him. He was badass.

  • Go Dave Go!!!!!!!!

  • brilliant...a saw a naked woman in asda with just a basket and a bottle of salad cream in it ...i thought to myself she needs a dressing.

  • saw them at Holmfirth last night, brilliant

  • What the hell happened to ska?! I'm bringing it back! I just bought myself a hat (that's right a hat not a fn baseball cap). Now if I can only find some black & white checkered clothing....

  • What the hell happened to ska?!

  • youtube seriously needs a loop button...

  • PEEPS CHECK OUT MY CHANNEL,THANKS LEE BEAT!,ONE LOVE -1-

  • @Minorthing792 fuck off

  • This song stands the test of time really well, kind of slipped under my radar when first released.

  • This has to be in the top 5 all time great 80's songs. The English Beat was with me all throughout my high school years (1983-87) and this song reminds me of those great parties where they played this type of music.

  • @setto69 I remember those good ole back yard parties that played these tunes as well...............such great times!!

  • This one of the best 80's tunes that I can remember.....awesome!!!

  • I love this song, and the video. It is typical of videos from the early 80s. I really miss those days.

  • @ftsjr i miss it more lol

  • @ftsjr you and me both

  • @ftsjr Typical? I feel this is better than 99.9% of the early 80s videos (and even some nowadays). Some of them were so bad!

  • seen dave as part of... three men and black... still looking and sounding great!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dave is so fucking MOD!!!

  • Saw the band recently. Well Dave and the the new guys. Anyway, Dave still sounds great and they put on a really good show. See em if you can.

  • this is from when artists had talent and werent autotuned bullcrap like now a' days. yes, blackeyed peas, im talking about you.

  • @minielk454 ...WORD.

  • I like how this video sort of pokes fun of artsy douches

  • Four people didn't save it for later.

  • Yes, this song is about oral sex performed on a man, ie..fellatio. “Save It For Later” Save It Fellator. Just listen to the lyrics.

  • Will help you get the word out

  • kingpin

  • Hold my hand when I CUM... to a decision on it -- hmmm.... CUM LOL

  • This is a nice song, but i kinda love the video mainly because of how the black guy danced in with the tambourine and how he dances while playing it..

  • Does anyone know the meaning behind this video?

  • @1967dummy I heard it was about oral sex. I read it on one of the comments.

  • fantastic music far far better than the all the crap we have now a days

  • love this video, would love to be in this pub, right now

  • @mee7779 I would love to be in there as well. Its like I can almost see myself in there dancing to this great 80s tune :)

  • Brilliant song. Horrible dancers. :D

  • yall are punk bitches

  • It looks like the guy is reading Albert Camus' "The Fall" which is basically the story of how nations are falling at the hands of Zionist Communist Nazi Israel central bankers who wage wars on citizens form the inside. Inside traitors is what they really are.

  • @MostMagnificentOne He's reading "The Capital". NOT "The Communist Manifesto".

  • What's the guy with the book reading? The Communist Manefesto?

The Communist Manefesto is the blueprint for Zionist Israeli bankers to takeover all nations from within by using central banks as their Trojan Horse.

    That's why we all suffer.

  • @MostMagnificentOne

    This is my first post.

The titile of the book is significant to this great song: Aimez-vous Brahms.

The plot concerns a middle-aged woman who leaves her long-standing lover for a relationship with a younger man.

Capital is the other book. Thanks.

  • borderline sample in "better man" by pearl jam. Love how the chick is dancing at 3:03

  • @RainmanCT I like her looks too for some reason. I miss those days.

  • WoW!!!... What a GREAT track !!!... Complete with a very atmospheric video !!!...

  • one of the best songs ever penned
