  • Wonderful old Jewish song about mother losing her son she was waiting for so long and her disbielief that he will never come back to her. Video would have been great without distracting red hearts.

  • Beautiful!!

  • tres bien, xx

  • A beautiful tribute to Yiddish motherhood in fact motherhood in general but I found the red hearts getting in the way a bit annoying.

  • Super! Oh, Mama mia!)

  • Je t'aime maman a l'infinie.....

  • J'adoooooooore !

  • wonderful

  • Idishe Mame

  • Did Aznavour compose this song?

    Anyhow, its a prfect interprettation!!

  • I love ths song "my yiddish a mama"

  • Ich habe eine Yidishe Mame und ein Armenier Tate

I've a Yidishe Mame and an Armenian Dad

    MERCI, M. AZNAVOUR...

    -:)

  • You are so grand Charles - forever in my heart

  • Dear Charles, You are so wonderful, so unique! Being born from Armenian parents, you managed to sing this song in a so touching way that made lots of Jewish people enjoy and cry at the same time! Thank you ever so much! Live a long life! We adore You!

  • bravo!!!thank you for posting :)

    Shalom!

  • I don't want yiddish to dissappear.

  • @AnaNord it will not because us the upcoming generation we are very attached to our roots and we will not let it dissapear. we will learn it.

  • Yiddish is disappearing.

    STOP ANTI SEMITISM

    STOP MURDERING JEWS.

  • @1mommas what are you talking about ?

  • @1mommas its not disappearing because of antisemitism or the murder of jews it's disappearing because parents don't speak it at home anymore. My father speaks it fluently but he never spoke it to me, i had to learn it from my mothers parents (oh and even they didn't want to teach me). I don't understand why most people that speak it know how beautiful it is but have an aversion to teaching it to their kids. shame.

  • Perfekt! Der Meister Charles Aznavour.

    Great and beautiful voice

  • Who sings it...It's my favorite version!

  • Charles Aznavour

  • What a beautiful song, thanks for posting this...........

  • IT IS THE PASSION WE LIVE FOR!

  • The Yiddische culture died with the six milion European Jews.Nothing hase left. The small Yiddische coumunities in USA are NOT representing Yidische culture. Its something wich was forced in differnt historycal circumstances upon us and although it was beatyfull it represented our tragical faith and not ourselfs as free Jewish nation.

  • @Tomislavv2 true true...My father still speaks yiddish, and I think I should learn too. He is from Czernowitz, a yiddishe stetl! History is sad!

  • MAMA I LOVE YOU

  • What does this have to do with yiddish? Have you tried commenting on the Richard Dawkins videos instead? I would suggest starting there first and leaving perfectly good videos about Yiddish mamas alone.

  • im irish and my mother sings this song. she cleaned for a jewish man. brings tears to my eyes .

  • Gracias Charles por todas tus interpretaciones.

Hermosa canción Judia de un gran pueblo.

  • thank you

  • I understand that Jews have had it rough throughout history; but my goodness, can't they sing anything happy?? I mean, everything Yiddish or Hebrew that I run into is written in the minor key and sounds sad. Does anyone have anything sounding happy relating to Jews? If so, please post it!

  • u may star with Hava Nagila (let us rejoice), the MOST FAMOUS jewish song...

  • @bluewingtip search jewish music

  • Today I had the first tears. Mammy had died two months ago. Thank you, Charles!

  • j'ai adoré , pleuré , merci charles ,

  • not my god, have some respect for other religions please....

  • Hi, :-))

  • Sweet and moving. I always tear up for this song - maybe it is the emotion of the violin. Good images. Thanks for posting.

  • to JesusPaid4Youi - Look around a bit. Virtually all of the gospel stories were taken from the Torah to explain the writers' reaction to this Jesus person; it's not historical. The Jews were there before the Christians; we just adapted their religion to our own purposes. Your comment was the wrong message in the wrong place. "Love one another as I have loved you" (that's love as in agape) and ANYONE who does that is already saved. Take off you blinders and see the truth as it is.

  • One thing I like about YouTube is the great videos one can run into; this is one of the best. I am Gentile 100%, but 'Yiddish Mama' allows me to appreciate the truly rich heritage shown here. Thank you.

  • Thank you so much for addingit.Wonderfull!!!

  • Beautiful singing by Ch.Aznavour beautiful song. I love Ch.A. so much...

  • This is sooo very sweet!! Thank you for posting!!

I have now viewed it some 5 times!!

It is fascinating!! Oh! The lyrics are so apropos!!

  • OH! This is soooo very lovely!! I just got a presentation about it, from my dear friend, Melania, that truly gave me the goose bumps!!

I hope you can find it on the net in pps mode!! It is also sung by our wonderful Charles Aznavour! It is simply gorgeous, with beautiful views of Israel!!

I will be happy to forward it to anyone who writes me!

This is so sweet!! Thank you for posting!!

  • get a life

  • to JesusPaid4You; 90% of that is stuff invented by the gospel writers and taken directly from the Jewish teachings of the day. The bottom line is "Love one another as I have loved you" and the rest is fluff. Your comment tends to denegrate Judaism without which we wouldn't have Christianity and virtually all of the details you cite. Take off your blinders.

  • belle chancon MERCI Charle

  • belle chancon MERCI

  • Beautiful tribute.

  • Wonderful ! Thank you so much !

  • Shalom todar aba! It's Great perfect musik Thak you ! The Musik Beautiful!!!

  • Heyyyy jadoreeeee !!!!

C'est tellement vrai =) Good job Aznavour

  • Wonderful song.Thank you so much!

  • tears to my eyes, I miss her so much, my yiddishe Mame. She loved this song so much and we played it at here funeral.

losing your mother is sad, but losing your yiddishe mama is a disaster, strange as it may sound......

  • when you love your kids...you put everything into them...they feel that...I lost my son and I mourn for him;;;;;I know I drive my other kids crazy over loving them...thats a yiddisha mama

  • I am so sorry for your loss, I hope there comes a day you can cope with your grieve.

As a child of a jiddishe mama who lost all her relatives in the shoah, I know what it is like to get crazy of the love she poured out on us kids, but oh, now she is gone I miss her so much an her great love and would give anything to have it back. So tell your kidds to enjoy it while they still can.

  • Bravo, Monsieur Aznavour! Vous avez tout ce qu'il y a de plus sympa!

  • merci monsieur Aznavour,merci Israel

  • QUE BELLA

  • who sing this song in french?

  • Charles Aznavour

  • merci beaucoup:)

  • Slowa,melodia,wykonanie fantastyczne-dziekuje

  • Łzy lecą same.

  • Wonderful song and voice!!

  • it was a real "mechiah" to hear this song.

    I miss my mom.

  • im sorry but could tell me more abut this song and bit history of jewish i live india and i have "schindler s list" lots of time its beautyfull expression,, of suffring of jewish can any on tell me more abut song

  • This song is as big among Jewish people as the Ganges is to India. It originated in Russia some 150 years ago and talks about the uniqueness of the Jewish mother, way too difficult to explain here.

This version of the song is by Charles Aznavour, a very popular French singer of Armenian Jewish origin and he sings it with the typical Aznavour warmth and understanding. Listen the many other versions of the same song out there and you will increasingly appreciate more "A Yidishe Mame".

  • thanks can u suggest something about history of jewish sugest some more music

  • All Yiddishe Mammes are beautiful. The song is very beautiful and this song is for all the Jewish Women who were murdered in the Shoah. May G-d rest their souls. May their memories be a blessing.

  • Amen

  • dank je xxxxxxx

  • Now that I am listening to it again I realize that begining of it is the old Yiddish song "The town of Belz" So many memories of past Jewish life in Poland that doesn't exit anymore.

  • What a beautiful song and a beautiful voice.

  • This is the best song in yiddish, it goes very

deep in every heart. Thanks to Aznavour for singing this very beautiful song.

  • isaacwajntraub, my Yiddish Mamma loved this song, now she is gone and this song reminds me of her and my wonderful childhood, unfortunately this is in French, I wish it was in Yiddish which I haven't heard in years. In any language though it's a beautiful song and Aznavour's interpretation brings tears to my eyes.

  • A ja dzięki Tobie odkryłem interpretację, której nie znałem, jakże piękną.

  • That is Nat King Cole isn't it???

  • Oh! Boy only Asnavour can do this !!!Joining

Armenian fellings with jewish sensibility songs!

    God Bless Mr.Asnavour !!!Thanks a lot !

  • Aznavour was discovered by LEO FULD " the

king of yiddish music". LEO FULD was already

famous when Edith PIAF and Charles Aznavour

were beginning. I read that Edith PIAF sang

    yiddish songs to LEO FULD.

  • The song is so dramatic that doesn't matter who sings it, it gives me goose bumps. Aznavour ici? Nisht git, nisht shlecht. A bissel tzi goyish.

  • this is so wonderful - brings so many memories

  • The video is wonderful; Aznavour's rendition is not. Thanks for posting, however.

  • This is wonderful.

Thank you for making my day!

    Gitl

  • This is great! I never heard this before with Aznavur

  • bravo charles

    yiddish.

  • "troittoir" was taken into some East European languages and possibly then became Yiddish.

    Bravo, Aznavour.
