You know what? architecture is not just a designing profession but also it includes planning, massing and analyzing. .that is what my present instructor told me about being an architect
I have been trying to decide between Civil eng and Architecture for over 2 years... anad the more i watch this the more i realize how hard going down this path would be , but i'm at the same time i find myself even more interested in it now.. more than ever .. i Just hope my math skills wont be an issue =S
I'm only 14, and I've wanted to be an Architect for about 6 years now. I'm definately not a very good drawer. Does that mean I could never reach my dream of being an Architect??
I'm 13 and live in England. I am in Year 9 at the moment and I really want to become an architect. If anyone out there would like to give me any pointers on what degrees to take Ect. Please do so. Thank you.
Doug! Im 15 and I already know I am forsure guna be an architect, im super creative, great at math, and the fact that I can say I designed and pretty much created a building blows my mind, Im trying to get a head start by takeing the right classes in highschool like Intro to Engineering, Art, Ceramics, Woodworking, and extra Geometry, is there any thing I should work on RIGHT now so I dont have to get used to it later, and any pointers would be fantastic, I plan ahead
That depends on the architecture school, doesn't it? In the school I've thought of going to, there are maths and natural science qualifications needed (no art). It's surely the same in other schools.
I always wanted to be an architect but I love the arrogance that comes with being a top-notch engineer. Though I am always told I look like someone who should be an architect (I dress funny) [laughs] Your videos remind me of my passion for architecture. Well done.
Thanks alot for these series, they are wonderful.I am going to apply for the National School of Architecture in Oslo - and I wonder if you have any good tips? The test that is required in order to be accepted is quite nice - and uses a blend of drawing and logical problem solving/maths - do you have any tips as of how I can prepare myself?
Most of the examples you gave have fundamental problems, like the museum in Bilbao, Spain, has a space (the one that haves a window, you can see it from the bridge) that doesnt have any use. The museum in New York have problems with the position of the art and people who are allways fighting against gravity and the insufficent bathrooms. 1/4 part of the building of Frank Lloyd W. were demolished.
Hello, great videos, love them. But I have a question, I am kind of lost in direction, I love art, design, building, and creating things, but I also have a love for computers, and electronics, just as much as I do art and design. Is there any good medium between architecture and computers? Thanks.
Yeah I have been thinking about this job for a while now. And you are drawing me into it. I really think it should be fun. But what degree do you have to have?
Hi, I'm studying architecture and this is my first year! Your videos inspire me a lot and help me explain to people what architecture is and stuff... Thank you so much, your videos are the best ever. You really are and artist.
@TheAgeofShadows I've seen that quote on a shirt attributed to Goethe and on other sites, but I've got a book that was published in the late 1890's that attributes it to De Stael. I do know however that Goethe and De Stael lived at about the same time...
This is a very well done tutorial Doug, and I'm in high school right now and as soon as i get out im going to follow my dream to become a Architect, I love the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, hes my inspiration. This tutorial is really helping me =] Thanks so much.
I'm in a heated competition to get the most "likes" on facebook for my modern artwork by Nov. 30th to win a MUCH needed $1000 scholarship. Please check it out my video called "Wave Propagation", and if you like it then PLEASE go to link in the video description and click "like"
well i dont know a lot yet because im just beginning my career...i suppose you study a lot of math in architecture. However, i've had to investigate a lot about art, so its not just math and drafting like most people think . Architecture is also art and is projected in real buildings with people doing activities inside them. You'll definately learn a lot in this profession.
thanks...i am trying to find out more bout the proffessio though...thanks for the help...means alot...if u hav any info for me tht cud b of help....tht wud b gr8...!!
architecture is very complex...its difficult to explain but you may get a general idea of how it is by watching videos on the "howtoarchitect" channel...as i told you i have little experience on my career however what i might tell you is that architecture is art projected in buildings and spaces...for benefit of the people of course
@tacho0 mmm investigating is quite good but art is a freeway of expressing ones creativity.. but investigating is quite useful too... i'm a student too i love drawing since i was kid .. and when i entered the career of architecture it was a lot more easier... i hate math to but starting to like it.. goodluck to brother.. ^_^
@tacho0 There are people who say the architecture is just math or geometry, forms and art!!! I think the architecture is the mix of the above. Surely, some architects focus their proyects just in fisical form, others just focus on funtionality not a form or beauty. So there are a variety of styles in buildings. Architecture is also art and form, math, etc,.
The amount of mjathc and physics depends of the school you choose. In my case included calcules (derivation and integration), analitycs geometry (plane and space) and physics included mechanics.
AMAZING!
