Or, maybe, that the Goldstein and his book (abused by O'Brien who lied about his co-authoring of it) were both real in the world of "1984"? I don't think so. Orwell has tried to depict the fiction and hypocrisy that must be rife in any totalitary system, and in that purpose he made Goldstein an artificial enemy fabricated by the Party (what was once revealed by O"Brien to Smith).

Many on the far Left became leftists because of his writings, specifically "Homage to Catalonia." In the book, he even states his support for the anarchist socialist movement. You are grouping the libertarian socialists with the statist socialists (USSR). These are two distinct groups with Orwell a supporter of the former and most of the former supporters of Orwell. There would be no good reason for a libertarian socialist to criticize Orwell's writings.

We need to move from the need for profit to the need for resources and clean energy. You can't buy or own resources or energy as they are for ALL humans on planet Earth. It would not work because you forget people have motives and essentially NOT driven by good but by their basic motives, impulses and desires - we are animals and things like corporations, politics, religion all shape and divide people, provide the demands as well as supply them - if there was no monetary system, the government, who WOULD own resources, would limit resources in some way. Not to preserve it but to control it. Government = control.
