Hmmm seems like Im the only one who actually knew what they were talking about. This guy was so obviously not an NFL RB. I cant believe he was drafted n the 4th round
LOL, this video is really gives you the wrong idea of Gartrell. It may have seemed like he had all those qualities before the draft, but after focusing on him all preseason, I can say that he isn't nearly the back he's made out to be by this video. I watched all the preseason games and practices(ones available to the public) he was involved in. He definitely didn't have a burst, his technique was lacking, and he broke maybe two tackles in 4 games. His style was run right into the line, get 1 yrd
This guy did get cut by the Chargers and he was a 4th rd pick,Teams generally do not do that if u have any sort of potential. I laugh how they talk about how good the football is down in Dade and it sure is. Funny how this guy didnt end up at Miami and instead went 2 Colorado St. Fact is he didnt start till his senior year in a second rate conf. so I wouldnt start polishing his bust for Canton just yet. By the way your dead wrong he may of had second level speed in college but not in the nfl
The NFL is full of guys that get cut by other teams that go on to be quality players by other teams. The Giants arent looking for a starting RB. They are looking for insurance until Danny Ware gets better.
this guy bangs in the inside and he showed it against fresno state in that bowl game. yet ppl think 40dash time matters. he runs like marion barber and steven jackson..F anyone who says he aint NFL runningback worthy
I saw Gartrell in the combine and he is a beast! he is fast for his weight. I think he was a steal in the draft. Im glad the chargers got him. He was very underated in this years RB class.
He is a good complement to LT and Sproles for sure. With his dreads, he would remind you of Stephen Jackson, especially as a power runner. He would also be like Michael Turner because he can break through tackles. Not the elite speed like Turner has, but he can still go fast, and his burst after ball contact would give him the edge on gaining short yards on a shortage situation to get a first down.
YES!!!! I called it before the draft! I'm a season ticket holder and I wanted him sooo bad after the New Mexico Bowl. He's a tough deceptive runner, I called it with sproles, after the Oklahoma game. Click on my name and check out my page you'll see me at the games talking trash....GO CHARGERS!!!!
I "called" the DT selection of Martin Vaughn & hope to see him starting very soon. I think AJ had a great draft . I don`t understand why Jerry Mcgee graded it as a c- . The common traits here are big strong quick nasty & smart
LT was #5 and look how he turned out. Reggie Bush was #5, and while not as big as LT, he is doing fine with his role. Perhaps this might be the same for Gartrell Johnson.
Yea we did, but Marcus Thomas isn't quite as good as Johnson. We should pick up a S in the later rounds. Anything is better than Heyward-Beys from the Raiders haha!
i'm so stoked i wanted the chargers to get this guy so bad but didn't think we'd get him! great pick A.J. this kid is contribute big time to our run game! now if you could just draft a safety...
i think he should of went to a team that needs him now like kansas city chiefs but its still a good fit cause he gets to learn from a great running back LT hopefully he grows into a great running back as well
alright man thanks for that.. i honestly never heard of any of these picks, but aj has drafted talent before. i guess i'll have to wait till preseason to see whats up
Didn't pay much attention to Tyrone's team, BUT, as far as Vasquez, I watched some of Texas Tech. Vasquez was one of the key offensive lineman in protecting Graham Harell in Texas Tech's high octane passing game, thus garnering a bunch of numbers to put Harrell as probably the second highest quarterback in passing yards, and has the most TD passes.
Vasquez would be one that likes to play nasty, from what I heard, and would definitely be useful to the Chargers for passblocking and runblocking.
Damn, went to the chargers. Wish Dallas coulda got him in the late rounds for our practice squad, we'd be deep on the power runner deal...
He's gonna be EXACTLY like Tim Hightower, thats my cousin who had nobody on his side when he went in 4th round, next thing you know, he helps the cardinals get to the superbowl. keep an eye on this guy,
tthe players that let their dreads hang run like warriors!
he would be perfect for tampa bay's new zone blocking scheme. cadillac cant stay healthy, earnest graham and derrick ward are pushing 30, why not take him in the later rounds he is a beast.
Anyone here because Gartrell Johnson is on your Madden NFL Superstars team on Facebook?

I don't see him as a full back in the league. he'd probably add some depth among the RBs and that's it.
BTW, Great Power Runner...
Headmaster85 2 years ago 2
He is a good change of pace. Lt, Sproles, Johnson. Time to powerball. I played running back in high school. Johnson is a
a beast. He reminds me of a mini Stephen Jackson.

thats funny, cause on draft day No one had ever heard of Antonio Gates.... and looks how he tured out........ how about TOm Brady in the sixth round?
or even Kurt Warner who went undrafted.
Just because you are a late rounder and the media hasnt hyped you doesnt mean you are automatically not good enough....
You are a douche.

Louis Vasques was the guy that led all offensive lineman in the bench Press with 39 reps at the combine.......
he will be a crushing run-blocker for the Bolts at RG......
Vazques comes from a pass happy offense so hes not to shabby at pass protection.
I think him and Kynan FOrney will battle during Minicamp..
