I think everyone out there as part of a survival skills to have, should learn how to make a viking or roman furnace and learn to make steel and other metals, and forge your own swords tools and weapons. (it really isn't that difficult to do) just takes a lot of exercise to hammer a sword into shape but you can get a machine to do that part.
Let us be honest, no one wants to carry a switchblade or assisted knife with them in an urban environment for "sporting reasons", they are carrying the knife for self defense purposes. I understand why certain states have bans on assisted open blades, folders and switchblades, it is because they are concealble and they do not want people walking around with such blades. However I believe it is legal in most states to carry fix blades of a certain length, usually under 4 in.

I'm under 18, and I always have a knife on my side. I sleep with my knife (granted this is not recomended, I have awoke to a knife sticking me in the side) I live in a ranch like community, we own several horses, and all kinds of good stuff. But my knife has saved my life, and many of our horses lifes. I use my knife all the time, its a vital tool, not a toy by any means; real bone handle n' stuff. And good luck getting them from me. I only have about 50 strewn about the house!

i looked up my states rules and they clearly state that there is no age restriction on knifes as long as they are under 3 inches in length are not fixed blades or multi bladed and cant be a stiletto (not to be confused with an italian stiletto) and are illegal to carry for any form of self protection or as a stabbing instrament

Depends on State Laws, depends on blade length limits if the state you live in has them or not, depends it if is concealed or not depending on the state laws, then you have to consider the county and city laws as well.
Best thing to do is call the local police and ask them about the knife laws that are applicable to you.

I live in the UK. We have the same problem in that the people that make the laws have very little or no knowledge about knives and their usage. Now you are just being an asshole. Why are you so obsessed with switch blades , they are not as reliable as a fixed blade for any purpose. With a fixed blade you never have to worry about the locking mechanism failing and you injuring yourself in a self defense or emergency situation. I do not care how well tested a locking mechanism is, there is always a chance it will fail. Not all knives are tools, and for you to make such a generalized statement just shows how little you know.

I'm under 18, and I always have a knife on my side. I sleep with my knife (granted this is not recomended, I have awoke to a knife sticking me in the side) I live in a ranch like community, we own several horses, and all kinds of good stuff. But my knife has saved my life, and many of our horses lifes. I use my knife all the time, its a vital tool, not a toy by any means; real bone handle n' stuff. And good luck getting them from me. I only have about 50 strewn about the house!

i looked up my states rules and they clearly state that there is no age restriction on knifes as long as they are under 3 inches in length are not fixed blades or multi bladed and cant be a stiletto (not to be confused with an italian stiletto) and are illegal to carry for any form of self protection or as a stabbing instrament

Depends on State Laws, depends on blade length limits if the state you live in has them or not, depends it if is concealed or not depending on the state laws, then you have to consider the county and city laws as well.
Best thing to do is call the local police and ask them about the knife laws that are applicable to you.

I live in the UK. We have the same problem in that the people that make the laws have very little or no knowledge about knives and their usage. The knife laws here are deliberately confusing in order to assist the law courts to send people to prison as a high prison population makes it look as though the gorvernment is being tough on crime.

canada isnt to bad i carry a knife every day just outside montreal and have been stoped by cops (not for the knife) and it was seen and it was all good...we can carry assisted knives, stud openers. i think even big fixed blades if its on a belt. its just really the autos and balisongs we cant carry . but EMTs, cops, firefighters can carry whatever.........but i would love to be able to carry a nice OTF or switch blade

A. Defending themselves, and

Same here but I don't have a booie. I have a custom hunting knife. 10cm stainless blade, leather sheath, wood and polished deer antler handle with pewter spacers. It's beautiful.
Fixed-blades ar still legal, right?

im pretty sure but mine is also custom with a stag handle and a stainless steel blade and a hand made custom sheath and yes i think that fixed blades are legal but maybe not 12 in blades ill carry my 8in ivory handled knife

Ive got a suspicion that this whole rule change proposal about assisted-opening knives is nothing but a ploy to turn more Americans unwittingly into felons over the knives which they already possess, which would then in turn mean that they cannot continue to legally own the firearms which they already possess, or purchase other firearms from FFLs in the future.
Its just another baby-step towards tyranny from the one.

The goal is not to help people but to enslave them... you starve them, cut morality, brainwash, stalk, etc.... they are doing a fair grade d- job, too bad the American min is lower than dirt which makes their d- efforts look like a passing grade coming to a theatre near you
