Nice stuff! in the middle of my own XS650 bobber project actually. Just curious in terms of rego, did you have to get the framework checked by an engineer and given a mod plate? how did you go with noise levels and also do you know of the laws in regards to ground clearance for road bikes? Im in QLD so it may vary slightly either way any help appreciated!
@wojski Hi mate. Yes, I had to get an engineers certificate for the whole thing because the frame was modified but I know for sure that the requirements are different in QLD than here in NSW so any advice I can give you might not be accurate in regard to your project. For noise levels I had to get a DB reading from an authorised guy, ground clearance wasn't mentioned, feel free to contact my direct via my Youtube profile mate, always happy to help others who are going down this track. Good luck!
@xXsnitchyXx Yeah cheers Snitchles! As for the accent, could be Beerese! I need to post another video update soon, the bike is looking different already. Polished steel tank, different bars, mostly cosmetic changes.
Shaving off the Yamaha emblem was a SWEET touch !!!
How did you do that and get it looking so good, Like it was made that way.
Now make another one of your cool vids, themed after "The Wild One" like you did with "Mad Max" shoot it in black and white. LOL That would KICKASS !!!
@johns1200low - haha hi John, thanks mate. See below for how I got the YAMAHA embossed logo out of the engine cover. No time to make another vid just yet, I'm putting my spare time into learning how to pinstripe so I can lay down some cool lines on the XS, give it a few tattoos :) As for a name, I'm not really into naming my bikes but if anything I'd probably call it "Misfit".
Hi , great looking bike :-) was wondering how you lost the yamaha from the clutch cover ?? is it welded up and ground down or is the case thick enough to get machined down ?? would really like to know ?? :-)
keep up the good work , regards from Scotland ............
@specialse - Hi mate. I used a flap disc to grind out the letters and sort of dished it out toward the edges to keep the surface looking flat. Then I used a mouse sander to get the whole surface flat. After that I used various grades of wet sandpaper to get it smooth and then polished it up on my polishing wheels. It's a fairly thick cover it seems, they over-built pretty much everything on the ol' XS's so as long as you stop grinding as soon as you get the YAMAHA out you should be ok :)
great job !join us on FB Bobber Bikes :) will share on our Wall
