There is my world view and there is your world view; "Earth" vs "I" as the center of the universe. B5 showed how both are tired, and how SG1 is immature. Star Trek promotes Humanism, bla bla. I like how Battlestar shows us that God has a world view too, and is still very much a player.

"the world is over?" what a crappy tagline is that! They lost many colonies, not one world... that's just so that people can think they are talking about Earth. But they aren't!

"The world" in this context doesnt mean a single planet, it can mean civilization. Its just a play on words to make a catchy tagline.
