As a rule in any country, the driver sits on the opposite side that the cars drive on (towards the centerline). So if the cars drive on the right hand side of the road, the driver sits on the left. If the cars drive on the left, the driver sits on the right. The reason being, that it allows the driver to better gauge where oncoming traffic is in order to reduce head-on collisions. In other words, this was probably fatal.
