Can anybody please tell me if there are or were any INDIAN music bands/persons who have produced similar kinds of rhythm, tunes like the songs by Kula Shaker in their album "K". It doesnt have to be in English
1. I think that bands back in the 90's i.e. Ben Folds Five, Matchbox 20, Travis, Blur and Pulp were a hell of a lot better than the "Indie" bands around since 1999 to 2010. The lyrics have more depth the instrumentation show's more technical abillity and the songs have better grooves.
2. and I might be slated for this but...Oasis best albumn 30 years? they were ok but never ever the best, and certainly never made the best album since the 80's!!
i remember walking back to the car after seeing Oasis at knebworth (can't remember what year but excellent firework show) and this was playing on the PA. I was buzzing off my tits...
i was just scrolling through the comments and caught a few words and why the BLOODY hell is mcfly and busted in here? it's insulting. never can kula shaker and mcfly/busted jive in one sentence.
crispin crispian whatever, still a bunch of public school toffs dipping there toes into eastern philosphy as was fashionable at the time for the middle class twats and upwards.
Keane are another lot of public school toffs - yet we seem to like their stuff. I like Kula Shaker and Keane - I coudln't give a shit what their backgrounds are. They make good music.
the year that kula shaker played glastonbury was the worst ever for middle class kids trying to out hippy each other, it was nothing more than a fashion statement. how honest is your music if your more concerned about what you look like and what you should be saying to appear all windswept and interesting.
as for keane. theyre formulaic and just a fashionable at the moment milk cow for sony emi
i'd rather be a cynic and see our society for the hateful, greedy, superficial, miserable, slavish existance it is than live in a fluffy dreamworld of marketing and advertising
and the lies we tell our self to deny that which stares us in the face.
Right... but it sounds good. Which can hardly be said for the public school toffs the the decade. Fucking Busted, and don't get me started and cunting Mcfly.
Charting with a song(Govinda) sung entirely in Sanskrit is a bit more than 'dipping their toes' Name another white British band of the time that had any trace of eastern philosophy.

for goodness sake, its not like sanskrit is unheard of or the bhaghavad gita or the vedas
Of course its fashion dalliance, it happens periodically in music.
the beatles for example, they flirted with eastern philosophy for a while. I've lived on sites with travellers in the 90's doing the same thing. pretending to be weird and "enlightened". The without fail the worst culprits were middle class kids just out of university myself included.

Crispin Mills...lol I thought my name was gay. Love this tune tho. Dont give me any fuckin shitty e-mails people cause the love is there. Crispin........ It's like nigel or Gaylord
Kula is one of the most under-appreciated bands of all time... They're so fucking great - among the best (if they did all those songs back in the woodstock days, I'm sure they'd be more famous now). They weren't born in the right era for what they're into, but they shine brighter most a lot of the classic bands, and Crispian Mills writes great riffs and lyrics too. And the band has a lot of different influences going on - they're really great.
the next song in the albom "k" is "jerry was there" (actually is a continuation of grateful when you're dead). its about jerry garcia, the leader of the grateful dead...
am i the only one who made this conection? cause no one said anything about that
Interesting comments by Gfunk there. I remember the reports that said he was all for neo-nazi rule etc etc...which was from a comment he made about a country working better under a dictatorship. Was a bit of a stupid comment but agree that the NME showed themselves as nothing more than hypocritical bullies in the playground. Rather than rising above it, not printing it or asking him exactly what he meant, they vilified him (so much for liberalism-just flip sides of the same coin) and goodbye KS
They were pretty big in the UK about 12 years ago (I saw them live a couple of times at festivals) but although their first album (simply titled K) was absolutely amazing, the second really failed to deliver and they just dissapeared into obscurity. I still love listening to them though.
It was partly due to an NME hatchet job - Crispin made some ill advised (but not untrue) comments re: the origin of the swastika and NME successfully convinced everyone that he was racist. I was over Kula Shaker by that point but I still thought the NME were utter cunts over the whole issue. I really think they set out to bring the band down because they were too retro and uncool.
they were popular...between 95 and 2000-2001 but they split up... and most of brit pop bands(suede, cast, supergrass etc) lose their ranks...and their popularity start to decline more than 5 years ago

Cool! I really like it! When I was 14years old, I watched this vidio clip. Then, it made me rock roll! Because of them, I started guitar. Great...denfinitely great!

The Riff to Kula Shaker's song Grateful When you're Dead from the album K (album) is seen as a bit of a rip off of Purple Haze.

Now that you say it...
soulmojo7 3 years ago 2
Yeah, but Don't Look Back In Anger is a rip off of Let It Be an Imagine. Just goes to show some really great stuff is copying bits of other stuff.
Still, a cool song nonetheless.
