  • BRAVO!

  • Any tips for playing this piece?

  • There is absolutely no question about it. The sound of Anna Serova's viola is superior.

  • I wrote a Concertino for Viola and strings

    youtube.com/watch?v=t4nQRMl5IJE&feature=related

Download the video to watch it.

Perhaps because it has 12 minutes in HQ, the video does not play entirely in the related page, but if you download it, it comes complete.

  • TEACH ME THE SONG

  • And this sounds so good on this iPad so beautiful keep it up

  • I love this it's so beautiful lol haha

  • I'm playing this right now, i'm having issues with the vibrato on the fourth finger in general (especially those A flat octaves). Any suggestions to warm those notes without hurting myself? I'm trying to loosen up my wrist but boy is that hard.

  • Interesante ejecución!!

  • Beautiful playing! I adore both viola and violin. One cannot truly appreciate music if they cannot exceed beyond elementary thought of "this is better than that" blah blah. I am attempting to teach myself viola, so far it's a wonderful struggle.

  • Beautifully played!

  • Absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful! Well done! (I may or may not have given my computer a standing o.... xD) Gosh I can't get over how beautifully you played this! I wonder if my teacher will let me play this anytime soon?!?

  • Anna- You were constantly my inspiration in middle school to continue on with viola in high school, so thank you! The style you use for the piece in the video above remains one of my favorites. I've heard other recordings and seen other videos but none of them quite do it right. I'm now trying to play the piece and was wondering if you had any tips? Oh, and how long did it take you to learn it? Once again, thank you for sharing your playing. Go violas!

  • Us violas are always the backups for violins. Notice us violas barely ever get solos so u go girl

  • I HATE it when people ask me what the difference between a Violin and a Viola is...

  • This makes me want a viola!!! What beautiful music!!!

  • quelle maitrise! quelle technique! quelle sensibilité! quel son! (est-ce un alto?)

    bravo et merci anna

  • @Goth131 I'm with you there

  • hi anna... i play the violin 'n i wanna ask you if do you think this song is possible to play in the violin???

    i love your style!!!

  • Im learning this song for a audition for Symphony at my school.

  • What type of viola do you play on? I've been constantly on the search for the perfect viola for me.

  • wow so good....listening to this makes me want to practice all hours of the day :)

  • We love your style.

  • My kids like to watch your shows. She study Viola for 1.5 years, love it and respect you are the good model.

  • i play viola for school orchestra in 6 grade you are so good i wan to learn how to do that wiggley thing with yours fingers on the a string

  • brake a leg! hahahahahahaha

  • @JrizzyJae i'm 5'8" and i have a 16.5 but don't think of it that way go with the length of your fingers and arms ^_^

  • Very good! Can you tell me which the location is? the place seems me very beautiful and resembles to the architectures of Puglia, in south of Italy, where I live.

  • im a beginner and my first lesson is on Tuesday cant wait

one question do u hv to were ear plugs

    LittleJenna

  • @littleJenna25 of course not! Its never too loud as to hurt your earns or anything. It might seem a little loud at first, but don't worry too much about it:) Good luck on your lesson:)

  • beautiful.

  • Wow! I'm learning viola too... How many years you took to reach this level?

  • @josiphorus Hi Josi! Do not think about the time that will be necessary but try to organize it and think about the joy and satisfaction you get from studying. Brake a leg!

  • Amazing! I have seen this video countless times and it is so moving.

  • AMAZING performance!Great music, technique and everything else.. Love it.

  • this is the reason i still play music

  • CHE BELLA DONNA !!! CHE ARTISTA MERAVIGLIOSA !!! SUBLIME COME SEMPRE LA SEROVA, GRAZIE !

  • Found acoustics FTW.

  • i got chills while watching this. so beautiful. i absolutely love the viola

  • Lovely!

  • Muito bom... perfeito... ^^

  • the best!!!!!!!!!!!

    I love it !!!!!!!!!!!

  • the best!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I really like that Vieuxtemps wrote for viola as well. It is a magnificent piece. Does anyone know if Vieuxtemps wrote anything comparable to Wieniawski's L'ecole Moderne? Or showpieces besides his concertos? Message me if you do!

  • I want her version of the Bruch Romanze back on Youtube! It was the best one ever!

  • Wonderful! HV is a newly discovered composer for me (we only studied "mainstream" ones at college). The more I hear & play his music the more I am astounded by his much underrated genius! This is the viola at its best, & Anna plays it exquisitely here: excellent tone intonation & general control/command of its technical & aesthetic demands without the bravado. She shows a true understanding of HV, who to me is more like the Violin/a-Chopin as Paganini & Wieniawski are the Violin/a-Liszt.

  • lol

i thought the melody in this performance was not just. i don't like the way she plays the piece? :/

  • I adore her vibrato!! :D

  • You know iam always avoid lesining to works which has notes in A string or uper than that in viola ,but really lesining to you is defferent your notes are very smooth the feeling that you breing to the notes is great .

  • if anyone wants the sheet music to this it's on IMSLP.org. just search for Capriccio 'Hommage à Paganini', Op.55 (Vieuxtemps, Henri) and pick which PDF you want. I prefer the second because it's already been edited rather than trying to read off a manuscript copy

  • Good job :) I admire your stage presence

If anyone wants the sheetmusic to this it can be found on IMSLP.org for free. Simply search for Capriccio 'Hommage à Paganini', Op.55 (Vieuxtemps, Henri) and pick which .pdf file you want.

  • I love her!!!! I am a violinist, and so is my ousin, but my sister plays the viola...

This is soooo beautiful...I have so much respect for the violas... lol Her strings are so warm and her vibrato is like a mixture of water and fire.....an oxymoron, but that's the only way to explain it... rich and vibrant like fire, yet fluid and graceful like water.... I'm melting this is beautiful!!!

  • I don't know if Anna will ever read this, but I just wanted to say that in fifth grade when I first heard this- I knew viola was my instrument. Coming from a family of all music majors, my parents frowned upon the viola, but accepted the decision. Now that I am older, I adore the viola and plan on majoring in it. Your music has truly inspired me and I listen to this almost every day. I'm playing this now, and I only hope I can master the music as you have. Thank you so much for inspiring me. :)

  • Wonderfull, like a nice dream, thank you for share your beautifull music.

  • Wonderfull, like a nice dream, thank you.

  • very fine playing. Clarity of chromatics on the C-string at the 2 minute mark are clearly difficult in that register and were handled well

  • i dont play viola but that is insane

  • love it!! love the sound of the viola, and the lady just sings through her instrument :)

  • esquisito!!!!! genial <3

  • This is one of my most favorite pieces for viola! I love it! Flawless!

  • Lindissimo!!!!

  • Very beautiful piece and exellent playing!

  • I hate it whenever someone asks me "Is that a violin?".......This video makes me proud to be a violist.

  • @GoldensunGSD why? you aren't the one playing it. it's like one of those fat people cheering at the olympics proud of themselves because some athelete paid by their country won a medal. The biggest pain with being a violist is dealing with the bizzare insecurity of fellow collegues. As if the violin wasn't just a wonderful and gorgeous instrument as the viola.

  • Very nice emotional playing!! I am also viola player and I tried to post 2 video responds to your video, but it did not work? A Duo of Piazolla/Nisinman for Bandoneon and Viola. A live Concert of the Viola Tango Rock Concert of Yusupov (where I also play electric viola -deadlywoods3 spoke about this subject). Anyway, Continue your personal way of playing!!!

  • Incredible!

  • Certified Intergalactic! Woohoo! Love you, Anna!

  • absolutely flawless

  • its been a while since i watched the same youtube video 10 times in a row

  • brilliant acoustics to go with the playing

  • Flawless Performance :)

  • Brava

  • Truly inspiring... this was the first viola solo I've ever listened to (without other instruments)... and THIS is the very piece that made me fall in love with the viola, even more than the cello. This instrument is so versatile and beautiful, yet so underrated...

Saluti.

  • Very very nice playing. The only thing is that she looks exactly like my boss who I really really dislike.

    :D

  • that's it!...awesome!

  • I played the viola as a child, gave it up for reasons i don't want to get into,.My daughter plays now and is gifted. The viola is the Queen of the strings. It's range is a metaphor for finding peace between two extremes , the violin and the cello. It is a part of my soul, and I thank you for illuminating it.

  • @fuckingummibears i agree widd u 100% cause im 13 and i started last year and mty teacher and friends think ive been playing since i was 4 but i just started i just have a big pashion for music so much in my soul and i play it for god and all of the lost souls.I also play violin viola cello bass double bass bass guitar guitar piano and i also sings as well.

  • oh my god.....

this year this piece is reminded on the international competition im going to :D

....hope just the intonation will be allright, not even playing a half like you!

    great :)

  • stuff like this makes me sad, because i know that i'll probably never be as good as her

  • Anna, dont' be sad for too long and never say never. Any result is up to you, ...David defeated Golia. Brake a Leg!

  • oh my goodness, you are so sweet! i might have to stalk you now...just kidding, but thanks for the encouragement!! this totally made my day, and i have no idea who you are, that's awesome :)

  • How much do a C string for a viola cost cause i broke my C string on my viola thx?!

  • @annatompkins

Hey i have on thing, I am a decently trained violist, been playing for around 2 -3 years. If i have seen this video yesterday, i wouldve probably though i could never play this. Well Today i just the piece from my teacher, and i am learning, its beautiful and never put yourself down, anything may happen

  • i am learning how to play a viola but i don't if i will be as good as her

  • i'm playing the viola too and i'm only in fifth grade the viola is awsome

  • imm playing the viola. :D

  • Everybody knows what a violin is but barely anybody knows what a viola is! :/ This is so well played and so dynamic, perfect.

  • That's pretty one of my best reasons why I wanted to pick up the viola. It's quite obscure, but so much hidden beauty...

  • I know right?! They have a society just for viola players- it's international. I play viola..But I play the others too.

  • i wish i can play like her. this is the best viola video on youtube

  • Ugh I just looked at the sheet music for this... why does she make it look so easy...

  • This is soooo beautiful!!!! I love it!!! Fantastic!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • beautifull sound *****

  • violin is much better than viola !

  • Why?

  • Because violins are just the gnar. got a problem with that? haha me and my best friend have at each other cause he's a violist and im a violinist.

  • I think they are both great. They both have something that the other doesnt. But with the viola you can get some of the notes the violin does, but when the violin can not. But either way the are both marvilous insturments :]

  • thats wrong to rate which instruments are better. Its all about the player, how that player gets the sound out from the box that it is trapped inside of. How much emotion and power the player expresses. Not about which instrument is better. I play the violin, but personally i love the viola because of the deeper sound it gives.

  • oh shame what a simplistic thing to say

  • this is a joke. they r equal, violin just has more rep.

  • That's like saying violin and cello ARE equal, they look the same too... violas are more like cellos anyway.

  • i made rasberries at the computer when i read this.

  • @ditooy

"better" ? It makes no sense at all !

The violin is not an improved version of the viola, and viceversa. Their are quite different indeed. Liking one or the other is a matter of "taste"

  • @ditooy and why do you say that? *is a violin player but is rather fond of the viola*

  • @ditooy they are both equally awesome!! It really depends on the player though!!

  • @ditooy noo viola is better I prefer its sound!

  • @ditooy

    That's a rather subjective statement.

  • @ditooy nahh you are CRAZY! viola is way BETTER! :D

  • @ditooy cello and viola rule da world!

  • @ditooy why you are thinking like that? every instrument is beautifull on his own way!! think like a musician!

  • @ditooy You're just secretly jealous that you don't have a deep powerful C string. LOL It's OK. We still like you.

  • @ditooy the viola is better than violin \./

  • @ditooy

you are some kind of noob!? Viola is much, much better than Violin. it is more sensitiv and not so fu**ing screaming!

  • @ditooy No, no it is not!

  • where can yu find the sheet music online???

  • i know i really want to know too!!

  • i would love to be able to play like that one day :)

  • such a beautiful piece.

where was this filmed at by the way?

  • I fall in love w her!!!!!!!!!

  • She is my Idol!!!! I'm only going to be a freshman and I want to be JUST like her! She is a violist after all so obviously her life is going to be AWESOME ;) lol...not to say violin's are bad, viola's just have better sound :):):):)

  • O.O Amazing!!!!

  • Beautiful - has inspired me to practice more.

  • wow this is just amazing i love the viola

  • she played it too careful, no fire...

  • It's a mournful piece. Where would you put the fire?

  • This is Vieuxtemps! EVERYTHING HE WRITES has fire and ridic passagi where you fly over the fingerboard.

Have you even tried to play any of his music?

    didn't think so.

  • Ahh even so if he has fire it doesnt mean the way that we have to copie him. We arent here to plagerise the artist who made it.

We all play differently, she's mournfull yet a little agressive. It's nice :) im sure passionate and fiery would suit this piece well too though ^^

  • This is really beautifully played, cheers. I especially like the contrast between the high notes and the low notes, and the way you ended the piece, pausing a bit at the peak. Though I think it could be more dramatic to accelerate a little and pause for a bit longer and retard more for the last two notes. But anyway, this is fantastic! Love it

  • Simplemente Hermoso..... No Se Que Otra Cosa Decir....

  • She plays beautifully! I recently bought this piece at a local violin shop, and I really want to learn it now!

What kind of viola strings is she using, by the way? My viola definitely needs new strings.

Despite knowing strings perform differently on every instrument, I still want to get a ballpark figure on what I want to be shopping for.

  • wow... excellent.

    bravo.

  • wow it was so good tears welled but did not fall.

  • Thank you for watching! Happy Easter to you all.

    Salutations respectueuses,

    Pascal

  • This is why I love classical music. Beautiful! My sister plays the viola too and I hope I can hear something like this from her someday.

  • beautiful super

  • YOU ROCK!!! :)

  • good night beautiful super

  • Thx, Good night ....and Good morning to you!

    :-)

  • amazing!!

  • i play viola too and someday i hope to be that good ;D

  • Every time I hear this piece of music, played by Anna erova, its so VERY VERY GOOD!!!! YOU ARE THE BEST VIOLIN PLAYER ALIVE!!!! IVe hear this piece played by many male violinplayers but it was never as good as yours ANNA! YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!! Love from Holland xxxx Patty de Gooijer

    Love from Holland.

  • you mean viola?

  • It is a viola! OMG that's the whole point and why it is so beautiful.

Hahaha... yea I'm a viola player too.

  • i play viola. ive been playiong 4 a while

  • nothing but WOW !!!

  • BRAVO!

  • la viola è uno strumento fantastico..

  • woahhhhh shes awesome

  • omg..i love this one!!!!!!!!

  • Where can I buy this piece? I cannot find it anywhere, and it's frustrating.

  • there are so many horrible violists on youtube and she's like the light at the end of the tunnel - hope, that not every viola player must be hopeless.. Love:*

  • Sounds very yummy, wow!

  • Brava! Exquisite tone, beautiful interpretation!

  • what strings is she using

  • wouldn't this sound nice on a cello? not that it sounds bad now or anything. i LOVE this piece.

  • This was simply beautiful. Viola is my second instrument, I'm a violinist, but I love the violas tone more than that of the violin, especially in the deeper registers. This piece really exemplifies the lower range of the viola.

    Beautiful.

  • WOOOW!! amazing^^ and btw, NICE dresses =O =D

  • wow!

  • Awesome sound!!! Bravo!!!!

  • omg...i want to learn this piece so bad...

  • very rich and mellow...

  • Very good! Sound was bright but strong at the upper registers, as clear as a violin, but without losing the depth one expects from the viola or cello.

  • Bravo! The acoustics in the hall are amazing, and the pizzicato finale is charming. Thank you for showcasing the beautiful tone quality that we violists can achieve.

  • Im sorry but I just dont agree with this performance, listen to Diaz before you play it again!

  • demasiado bello...espero tocar asi algun dia. :-) yo toco viola

  • ben la représentation est excellente, mais je n'aime pas trop se style de musique mais j'adore le violon alto

  • that was... AMAZING... wow...

  • Omfg shes so good! Her full name sounds really similiar to mine x]]]]

  • I think this is beautiful

  • Beautiful. Absolutely stunning.

  • im in my 3rd year and it took me 2 years to master vibrato. Keep working at it, it pays off in the end:)

  • brilliant

  • im a viola too, this is a great player

  • Can I play you then? Joke...I had to take the opportunity to make an ass of myself if it presented itself! She is fantastic isn't she?
