I'm playing this right now, i'm having issues with the vibrato on the fourth finger in general (especially those A flat octaves). Any suggestions to warm those notes without hurting myself? I'm trying to loosen up my wrist but boy is that hard.
Beautiful playing! I adore both viola and violin. One cannot truly appreciate music if they cannot exceed beyond elementary thought of "this is better than that" blah blah. I am attempting to teach myself viola, so far it's a wonderful struggle.
Absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful! Well done! (I may or may not have given my computer a standing o.... xD) Gosh I can't get over how beautifully you played this! I wonder if my teacher will let me play this anytime soon?!?
Anna- You were constantly my inspiration in middle school to continue on with viola in high school, so thank you! The style you use for the piece in the video above remains one of my favorites. I've heard other recordings and seen other videos but none of them quite do it right. I'm now trying to play the piece and was wondering if you had any tips? Oh, and how long did it take you to learn it? Once again, thank you for sharing your playing. Go violas!

I really like that Vieuxtemps wrote for viola as well. It is a magnificent piece. Does anyone know if Vieuxtemps wrote anything comparable to Wieniawski's L'ecole Moderne? Or showpieces besides his concertos? Message me if you do!
Wonderful! HV is a newly discovered composer for me (we only studied "mainstream" ones at college). The more I hear & play his music the more I am astounded by his much underrated genius! This is the viola at its best, & Anna plays it exquisitely here: excellent tone intonation & general control/command of its technical & aesthetic demands without the bravado. She shows a true understanding of HV, who to me is more like the Violin/a-Chopin as Paganini & Wieniawski are the Violin/a-Liszt.
You know iam always avoid lesining to works which has notes in A string or uper than that in viola ,but really lesining to you is defferent your notes are very smooth the feeling that you breing to the notes is great .
if anyone wants the sheet music to this it's on IMSLP.org. just search for Capriccio 'Hommage à Paganini', Op.55 (Vieuxtemps, Henri) and pick which PDF you want. I prefer the second because it's already been edited rather than trying to read off a manuscript copy

I love her!!!! I am a violinist, and so is my ousin, but my sister plays the viola...
This is soooo beautiful...I have so much respect for the violas... lol Her strings are so warm and her vibrato is like a mixture of water and fire.....an oxymoron, but that's the only way to explain it... rich and vibrant like fire, yet fluid and graceful like water.... I'm melting this is beautiful!!!
I don't know if Anna will ever read this, but I just wanted to say that in fifth grade when I first heard this- I knew viola was my instrument. Coming from a family of all music majors, my parents frowned upon the viola, but accepted the decision. Now that I am older, I adore the viola and plan on majoring in it. Your music has truly inspired me and I listen to this almost every day. I'm playing this now, and I only hope I can master the music as you have. Thank you so much for inspiring me. :)

@GoldensunGSD why? you aren't the one playing it. it's like one of those fat people cheering at the olympics proud of themselves because some athelete paid by their country won a medal. The biggest pain with being a violist is dealing with the bizzare insecurity of fellow collegues. As if the violin wasn't just a wonderful and gorgeous instrument as the viola.
Very nice emotional playing!! I am also viola player and I tried to post 2 video responds to your video, but it did not work? A Duo of Piazolla/Nisinman for Bandoneon and Viola. A live Concert of the Viola Tango Rock Concert of Yusupov (where I also play electric viola -deadlywoods3 spoke about this subject). Anyway, Continue your personal way of playing!!!
Truly inspiring... this was the first viola solo I've ever listened to (without other instruments)... and THIS is the very piece that made me fall in love with the viola, even more than the cello. This instrument is so versatile and beautiful, yet so underrated...
Saluti.
I played the viola as a child, gave it up for reasons i don't want to get into,.My daughter plays now and is gifted. The viola is the Queen of the strings. Every time I hear this piece of music, played by Anna erova, its so VERY VERY GOOD!!!! YOU ARE THE BEST VIOLIN PLAYER ALIVE!!!! IVe hear this piece played by many male violinplayers but it was never as good as yours ANNA! YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!! Love from Holland xxxx Patty de Gooijer
there are so many horrible violists on youtube and she's like the light at the end of the tunnel - hope, that not every viola player must be hopeless.. Love:*
This was simply beautiful. Viola is my second instrument, I'm a violinist, but I love the violas tone more than that of the violin, especially in the deeper registers. This piece really exemplifies the lower range of the viola.
Very good! Sound was bright but strong at the upper registers, as clear as a violin, but without losing the depth one expects from the viola or cello.
Bravo! The acoustics in the hall are amazing, and the pizzicato finale is charming. Thank you for showcasing the beautiful tone quality that we violists can achieve.
BRAVO!

This is why I love classical music. Beautiful! My sister plays the viola too and I hope I can hear something like this from her someday.

there are so many horrible violists on youtube and she's like the light at the end of the tunnel - hope, that not every viola player must be hopeless.. Love:*

wouldn't this sound nice on a cello? not that it sounds bad now or anything. i LOVE this piece.
Legallybrunette1234 3 years ago
This was simply beautiful. Viola is my second instrument, I'm a violinist, but I love the violas tone more than that of the violin, especially in the deeper registers. This piece really exemplifies the lower range of the viola.
Beautiful.

very rich and mellow...
Legallybrunette1234 3 years ago
