What a shame. It's such a good looking game. I would have bought it but the turn based system puts me off hugely. I had FF7 and that supposedly is one of the best FF games and if I didn't like the style of play then, then I'm sure I won't like this one either?

It's not strictly turn base, you wait untill a meter fills up before you can attack. The more you put into a certain stat that bar can fill faster so it's not like "ok i went now you go" It's different. Really great game.

@mdelta1 Hmm in that case it sounds a bit like WoW. I was addicted to that for 2 years and managed to peel myself away from it by buying a PS3! Although obviously the graphics are a lot better in this game. Be good if you could move around while fighting though.

yeah its more linear , but other than the linearity its an amazing game and the FIRST console game to be in FULL 1080p resolution

Yup no towns or shops. You can do everything from a save point.

No exploration either.

Hardly any side questing and the game just feels like one big hallway with LONG cut-scenes

@djjdiss Obviously you havent reached Chapter 11 yet have you LOL!!! Play the whole game first, then leave a comment...otherwise, the people who have played it and can prove you to be wrong, will do so. First 10 hours or so are linar, but when Chapter 11 hits, thats when it gets good. There is at least 70 hours of gameplay to this game so its not short by a long shot. Just wait and see.

I kinda like what they've done, they've sort of merged 12's battle system with 10's. Turn based, but not turn based and you can aboid battles if you wish.

flamezdudes - actually in for Final Fantasy 13 you can't run away from battle at all, you have to have some item to run away.....they did this to balance out the fact that you're fully healed after every battle, and also since enemies units are visible this time around they'll have icons above there heads telling you if there easy or hard depends on how your party's characters are at the time, so you'll know what enemies to avoid ahead of time

Squall annoyed me....he never believed in anything....just always so glum and was depressed over nothing being sad and angry.....it just seemed odd for a main character to act like that....and now Lightning seems to be the same way, why are only the negative emotional main characters for FF games so popular

it's very common to have silent main characters in games that's nothing new for JRPGs

Characters like Cloud and Squall may have appeared gloomy and emotionally troubled, but at least it gave them depth. Their problems gave them human qualities. People are able to relate to them because they have actual struggles.

And while Zidane was upbeat, he lacked depth and importance for a while. It wasn't until the end of disc 3 that he started to become more involved. And Cecil isn't really all that heroic.

If any one of the FF heroes was heroic, it's definitely Terra. And she had depth.
