Wow, thank you. I have loved "Back to the Island" since it came out, and much of Russell's work still brings tears whenever I have the privelege. Leon, there must be MILLIONS of us who sing along with you, in our hearts and minds.
Great to see this 'union', but I recommend Leon fans go back to his first solo album after leaving Delaney & Bonnie. It's called 'Leon Russell' (orig. work title was 'Can a Blue Man Sing the Whites', and includes 'Delta Lady', 'Hummingbird', etc. w.Ringo Starr, Klaus Voorman and other stellar players. Arguably the best thing he ever did... and avail. on CD.
OH Woe..this is Amazing~! My 2 Favorite Guys.love all of their songs, got all the CD's of Each, and Woe..Never thought i would see this happening~!!! I feel Great..You guy's GO~! See? Age is not anything but a number~! Love & Joy, Donny
I can't get enough of this album and I love so many of the songs, this album just totally blows me away. " I should have sent roses" has been played and played over and over again, on my computer, on my stereo and in my car, just takes my breath away. I love these guys together.
let me get on my soap box.......get Leon into the R & R Hall of Fame!!!!! it should have happened years ago. sometimes i say he is the original rapper......
This is the Reunion of 21 th's century..Elton John and Leon Russel..Amazing Record!!!!...Its like a Reunion of McCartney and Brian Wilson, Ozzy&Lemmy Kilmister,John Lennon&Elvis Presley...Good Bless you Elton for this..the world seems to be mor Happy!!!
@Kaduguariente I know it's made my world more happy that I get to see them on 11/03 in Hollywood & 11/05 in Ontario. I am a lucky, lucky Southern Californian :)
I commented on another video of this song that for some reason, it made me a little teary. I just love it and can't stop listening. This is what current songs don't do for me. It's got moving lyrics, a great melody, and timeless voices. Leon and Elton, who better. I hope The Union soars.
I have to listen to this song every night...Leon is so amazing..the song he wrote for elton is so sad...i think it's hands of an angel..thanks for posting..
Midnight, you express my thoughts exactly. This collaboration...and Elton's endorsement...should make those R&R Hall of Fame people hang their heads in shame. This song is absolutely beautiful/touching/brilliant and has me in tears...and your extremely thoughtful and worked up video here is amazing...fantastic job!
@soggykc Agree with you Soggy. And also thank you Midnight profusely. I am in tears over the possibilities of the long overdue accordance to Leon Russell. He is a genuine fixture in the music scenery and has been (beyond words) terribly overlooked by the Hall of Fame. Thank you again for this. I will publish to my channel on here.
Thank you for this! I've been a fan of Leon's since I was a 15 year old girl seeing her first concert-Mad Dogs and Englishmen. I developed a crush on Leon that's never quite faded. I'm really looking forward to adding this album to my Leon collection. This really is a beautiful song. It's wonderful to see Leon back where he belongs-at his piano in a recording studio.
@67tr3 Oh, yes, Leon's songs have been a part of my life. His love songs touch every woman who hears them, his rock songs defy you to sit still, and of course, no one can wail the blues like Leon!
Thanks for the lyrics. Now, my question to the Leon crowd - is this for Mary or is this song for Jan? Whomever it is for it is a beautifully crafted tune - one that will probably never receive airtime but that does not change the fact it is incredibly soulful and sad and "listenable"...
LEON: "Bernie had this set of lyrics. I set them on the piano and just sang. Unbeknownst to me, T Bone recorded it on his phone. I told Bernie he was my new favorite lyric writer. He said, “Who was the first?” I said, “Jimmy Reed.”
@midnightsanotherday Hey - thanks. I could never get that Rolling Stone - it was sold out wherever I went. Nice to see your Love and Mercy video as well. Another one of my favorite songs. Are we on parallel planes?
@midnightsanotherday This song is not written by Bernie Taupin. The song is a collaboration between Elton John and Leon Russel . According to deccaroecords.
I believe the CD credits will reveal Leon Russell (Young Carney Music) and Bernie Taupin (Rouge Booze Inc). Leon actually told a story of finding these lyrics on the piano and beginning to sing... Thankfully, the October 19 Release is not long away! Are you really one of the Norwegian fans? Cool ... we had 1,000 views over there!
@midnightsanotherday Yes I am one of them, and I really look forward to this album. I have heard 4 song from the album they are all high quality. So might be wrong info at Deccarecords, we will see when the album is released.
