mine, i have a display problem. Its fine when running on the AC, but when i unplug it, the display goes that dark you cant hardly see it. ! The FN + F4 is at the max, but still way to dark. Any ideas ?

@cyberjackcyberjack try using eeectl, it allows you to change FSB (front side bus) basicly your clock speed so it is kinda overclocked with min effort also change fan speed and brightness. you may want to get a larger battery to compansate for brightness

Why are you guys talking of putting ubuntu on it? It would be slow, ubuntu is not a light distrobution. I'd put an 8.04 distro of xubuntu, debian would probably be too much for it as well.

the drivers are so that your sound, resolution, trackpad, and other stuff work properly. So how do you install them? First go use the cd that asus provided that includes all the drivers needed copy those into a USB flash drive. Well after you have finished installing Xp on the asus insert the usb and install the drivers. They are important i suggest you install them. If you need a link to a tutorial on how to install xp pm me n ill provide a link

yeah, i would still advise going for newer version that has things such as bluetooth, so you can connet a full size keyboard on mouse much easier. you can use cabled ones, i just dont like cables much :P

ok kust some advice when you plug in the asus to a monitor the resolution will be messed up so u have to fix it on display setting. And after you unplug it make sure to change it back to how the settings were otherwise its going to look like shit.

And dont buy a monitor so big cause the eee wont support it

Most come with xp on them other come with Linux it will depend on the price. Cheaper means Linux more expensive will give you xp

It took me about 4 attempts to get it to work, but after knowing what my mistakes were on the process it becomes a very easy task to do.

Guys, a bit of advice please, Either this EEE Pc, which i can get for £169. or should i go for the Acer Aspire One, Base model 8G SSD for £199. i don't really know, EEE Pc has the better operating system and build quality, also easy to upgrade, But the Acer has the incredible Atom processer, Which has no fan, which give more battery life, But the linux operating system on the Acer is very very basic and rather poor, your advice would be a great help xxx. By the way, i love that song lol x

First of all is your computer running on xp or linux because there's a big difference. Second this computer is capable of running almost any program that as regular computer. So to answer if its capable of running the program like lime yes it can.

There are similar Bittorrent programs that can run on this to get your music files. Transmission, Ktorrent (installable via the add/remove software tool synaptic)are just two, I can suggest places to look for the torrents if you don't know.

I believe that by the "asus custom menu" your talking about the asus linux software. To get xp on your asus you will need a usb flash drive or a external cd drive. Visit the "eeeguides" website for the instruction on how you can istall xp.

Very simple in most cases the program you are trying to install will ask were you would like to install your program in most cases it will be drive c: the only thing you would have to do is change that to the location of your SD card. If you run into problems ask and i will help you

the asus 701 is great if you know how to install xp and get as much free space as u can. Now i have about 1gb of free space, but for $100 more would be great too u know u get 2 more inches on screen and 12gb or 20bg depending of memory.

Yes you can install Xp from a HDD. You could even install Xp using a usb flash drive. I installed XP using a flash drive which was very simple after a couple of attempts. Try this website to see all the tutorials on how u can install xp.
