  • can anyone find Hackett to Bits? I know it's out there somewhere in cyberspace...

  • Ε - Π - Ο - Σ

  • Happy Birthday, Steve (12 February)! :)

  • Sounds like the sort of direction Genesis could have continued in had Peter Gabriel not left.

  • fucking fantastic :D This is hands down my fave solo song of his. Saw steve with renaissance in '10 and it was outstanding.

  • je connais cet album depuis plus de 30 ans...et je viens seulement d'apprendre que c'est Sally Oldfield qui chante !!!

  • This song makes me think of the universe and space and the whole cosmos, for some reason. :)

  • This album proofed that Steve was ready for leaving Genesis, leaving behind frustrations about being ignored with respect to the contributions to the band (especially by Tony Banks...).

  • They say Eddie van Halen invented finger tapping? Steve did it many years earlier. doh

  • Steve Hackett was the first Genesis-member to release a solo album, with help from Phil Collins on drums and Mike Rutherford on bass. Sally Oldfield sang this beautful song. He is still a great musician / composer today as you can hear on his new CD "Beyond the shrouded horizon". It's amazing that every single Genesis-member has a big talent on his own, this band was such a fantastic constellation!

  • My Friend, you almost made me shit in my pants! I thought it was real at first sight!

But You've made a wonderful musical time travel and, why not?.. it's good to Dream!

  • @menatoq :))

  • @squirreIs ha,ha, My sister's nickname is "squirrel" you're not a conincidence! :))

  • I´m from Brazil.. Here in my country there a lot of people that love prog rock, just like me. So, I´ve been a GENESIS fan for almost 20 years. I love alltheir records, include the pop ones. I really do. But I never listened this amazing track by Steve Hackett before. It´s just blow me away you know? I need buy this cd. Yes, I have nothing against the download approach, but I love got a cd. This amazing.

  • @CarlloLombardo I saw the CD on amazon.com some minutes ago, you can try there.

  • I can here some of this in Eruption by Eddie Van Halen,

  • I keep thinking why none of my friends like prog rock. They have lost sensibility for those rocky bands who cannot go beyond three or four minutes songs. No more fantasy, no more guitar solos, no more imagination.

  • I am 54 now and first heard this when i was a teenager back in the mid 70's,it just blew me away and it has always been my favourite album over all these years.

It is the one album i could never be without,it is so beautiful.

  • QUEM TEM SENSIBILIDADE E NÃO PRECISA DE DROGAS PRA FAZER A MENTE VOAR .BASTA OUVIR ESTA OBRA PRIMA EM UM AMBIENTE AZULADO. J.LUIZ

  • Found the album in a flee market. $5 and in good condition. How stupid of me, I should have bought it.

  • Mr. Steve Hackett wrote a masterpiece!

  • Sally Oldfield's voice is so surreal and beautiful............Wonderful track, brilliant album

  • Shadow ... not Shadows.

  • Deeply moving piece!

  • Moving work!

  • Thank you all for your interest and nice comments. :)

  • I am 40 years old. You're right, I think so too. This music will never die.

  • I'm 50 years old. I first listened to "Voyage of the Acolyte" as a teenager, in 1976 or so, and fell in love immediately. It had been a long time since I last listened to it. Amazing how I still remembered it note by note even after more than 30 years. Still so beautiful it hurts! Sally Oldfield's vocals are still sublime after all this time, and Steve never was so inspired as in this album. A true classic and a gem. Britney Spears or Lady Gaga anyone? Ugh!

  • @goytabr We're about the same age then. :) A classic, yes! Like you I hadn't heard it for 30 years ++ before I accidently dug into my vinyl collection. When I played it, it was like coming home. <3

Thanks for your nice comment. P&L

  • @goytabr I am 50, also, and I first heard this back about the same time! This album is a classic, as are all his others. I REALLY need to find this on CD, as I no longer have it on vinyl or on cassette.

Hackett has such a unique and beautiful sound, and is obviously an amazing composer!

  • @goytabr I too listened to this song when i was a teenager. actually i still am. Sadly there aren't many girls from my age (19) who like this music. i thank my father for raising me with prog rock. dislike Gaga and Britney. that ain't music .:) btw i saw Steve two weeks ago and he played this song with the singer from Beyond the Shrouded Horizon. It was absolutely amazing.

  • VOCE PODE FAZER QUALQUER COISA OUVINDO TAL MÚSICA. QUER DIZER, QUALQUER COISA ESPIRITUOSA, TE AJUDA, TE INCENTIVA É ISTO QUE QUIS DIZER...

  • so rich

  • BRASIL! DIFÍCIL COMENTAR. AMO. AMO. AMO. OUVI MILHARES DE VEZES. MUITAS VEZES. MINHA ALMA OUVIU JUNTO COM O MEU ESPÍRITO E A MINHA CARNE SE ALEGROU. É COMO UMA VIRTUDE QUE NÃO SE TEM COMO EXPLICAR.

  • there are no words to describe how it feels inside to hear this. I heard it first in the 70th, while driving through the french massive central - sitting high above in the sun, look down to an amazing canyon, smoking nice things^^ - indescribable

  • Excellent ! I have this on vinyl somewhere buried in the collection. I just listened to this whole album ( thanks You Tube !) today, which is about 36 years ago since I heard it last !! yet I remember every little nuance and musical passage! The human mind, it's amazing what we retain, and retap into !!! Thank You Steve Hackett !

  • we're not worthy

  • beyond words in beauty............

  • I have three copies on vinyl, two have never been opened. Saving them for my grandchild when he's old enough.

  • @corum428 Your grandchild will be opening a jewelbox. It's worth treasuring, believe me!

  • Her voice is haunting and otherworldly! I just bought this album again for my phone. I had the vinyl..wish I still did.

  • Great song, although I prefer the live version with bassist Dik Cadbury on vocals.

  • The best song prog rock music ever produced! Hackett's first and best solo album.

  • @wondermusic63 First and best is right-best by far

  • It would be excellent without a female voice

  • i just love that intro bit. soo fuckin inspirational.

  • Further to the comment, thank's for posting

  • Nice to hear it right the way through rather than split into part's although the end bit is

my favourite part of the record

  • @TOFFEEBLUE344 The end is classic and I never tire of it

  • @TOFFEEBLUE344 The CD release of this album features an extended version of this song as a bonus track, which runs at 18 minutes :)

  • @SPeacock I have to find that copy!

  • @squirreIs The CD releases are your best option, then :) Good luck!
