@clumpyify Just watched Episode one on Justin. Sadly the other 4 episodes don't work. Does anyone remember the other Liverpool comedy drama, Scully? Would love to see that again.
not seen this since 1985, when i was living in australia, so its good to see it on here, why wont they put this and other classic 70s and 80s tv on bbc 3 or 4.
Great, I still remember the characters Billy and Icky after 26 bleedin years. Loved it at the time, really related to its prtrayal of council estate kids.
It's all down to bad/sloppy/lazy writing and writers. One of the writers who worked on Eastenders, was a former barrow-boy from Liverpool. Uh?? Excuse me, I have nothing against barrow-boys, but great writers they do not make. BTW, he went on to write Life On Mars, which I have to say I didn't like. I'm in a minority I guess.
Given that One Summer seems to be about trying to escape class expectations, it's ironic that you've expressed a class prejudice, quote: "Excuse me, I have nothing against barrow-boys, but great writers they do not make"
Where Life On Mars is concerned, I think that I am correct. It did not accurately depict the 1970s at all. In the same way that Eastenders sloppy writers do not represent the real East End. Ironic that you should mention class, as some of Eastenders' writers were/are from the middle classes. And to think that they were depicting people they didn't encounter for real. No wonder it's rubbish!
i fooken loved this man

The good old daze, when ITV made some decent dramas. Who remembers the sunday night plays: Made In Britain and R.H.I.N.O. among others?
