So, we know therefore that the time period in which a prince makes a covenant with Israel and breaks it in the middle of the period to set up an abomination in the Temple and stop the sacrifice and offerings and then Gods' wrath (or judgement) is poured out on him at the END; is not fulfilled by any of the above, ergo it is yet to be. However, the Temple was destroyed after Messiah was cut off & the sacrifice did cease & abominations & desolations did occurr, right up to 1946.
The end of what? Remember what Daniel was enquiring about
v20-23. What was decreed in v24? Why?This is all about Israel and the entire fulfilment of Gods' promises to them. To put an end to sin, to bring EVERLASTING righteousness, to ATONE for wickedness, "to FINISH transgression, AND to anoint THE MOST HOLY ONE. This has NEVER taken place according to Israel. So the End of Their transgression has not taken place and They have certainly not anointed The Most holy - yet!
There was NO seven year covenant with any of the Roman princes (Ceasars) and there was No Abomination set up in the Temple that caused desolation. Yes the Sacrifice ceased and the region was absolutely desolate. Later (135ad) Hadrian erected a statue of Jupitor and Himself on Temple Mount after destroying a partial Temple restoration. Later still (138-161ad) Antonius Pius erected another statue. However,NONE of these figures or regimes made a covenant with Israel or lasted until The End.
Now, Rome. Titus destroyed Jerusalem so completely in 70ad that the legions ploughed the ground of the city and sewd saltpeter into it so nothing would grow there (this was the fate of Carthage). The temple was destroyed stone by stone and burnt to a cinder. The sacrifice ceased and Israel was no more. Is this the 70th week?
Well, again there are big holes. Even though Caligular tried to set up a statue of himself in the holy of holies, it never happened and Vespesian became Emperor.
OK, historically Antiochis set up an abomination in the Temple and made it unclean (Desolate) by sacrificing a pig on the alter. Is he the"he". Can't be! Because he existed 170yrs before Messiah and he never made a covenant with many (infact he was isolated by the romans, egyptians, Parthians and Greeks alike. He did Not put an end to the sacrifice either although he tried. Ther are very striking similarities though which we will ask why later.
However War continues until the End (the end of what?) and many desolations will occur. Now who is this "he" who confirms a conevenant with many for "ONE WEEK"? Can't be Messiah or we are in serious trouble. One week = 49yrs and if you are arguing that the seventy weeks has been fulfilled then we missed out by 1950years. The text says the covenant is made for "1" week not everlasting. OH dear! Also "he" sets up abominations which cause desolations until the end (again! the end of what?)
friendlies they had already completed a section (entered into) of the 30hrs, not so.This is the same argument you are offering on the Text.
Now, "After the sixty two weeks" implies that after 69 weeks(ie from the beginnig"seven" fulfilled +the 62 from the fulfilment which = 69) another event, fulfilment will occur. What? The messiah would be cut off but not for himself. Also the people of the prince with a small p would come and destroy the Temple and the city, the end would come quickly.
training of ball & teamwork? No it is still outstanding even though we have had several hrs worth of teamplay & ballhandling in so called friendlies. Doesn't that count even though our ballhandling & teamwork has been exersised and lets say improved? NO is the answer, because the30hrs is specific in order to train, improve, assertain, understand where we are in that specific mode of operation. SO if I told my team at the beginning that they needed 70hrs training, they might argue that after the
highlighting, ie strength / speed / ball handling / teamwork. You would break it down into manageable portions. If I was doing it strength and speedwork would be done seperateley in isolation. Then maybe I would combine ball handling and teamwork together.Lets say I give strengthv 20hrs speed 20hrs and the rest 30hrs. We accomplish the first two(40hrs) yet we have not started the (30hrs-ball & teamwork). We have several pre-season games which amount to seven hrs. Have we entered the 30hrs
Please read the passage over and you will see some perculiarities.
1.First it states "AFTER the Sixty two weeks" NOT "During the 70th week".Hmm! We might impose that after 69 weeks comes 70 becaues we know 70 comes after 69, correct? However, that is not what the text says. Look at the text.
Ok, imagine you run a sports team (rugby will do) and to get up to par your team needs to put in a certain amount of training, say 70 hours worth. Certain aspects of your team need
How do we know that? Because Daniel states that from the start of the first seven adjoined to the sixty two is the period that will procede upto the cutting off of Messiah. What is the point of splitting these two sets of sevens then?
1.to assert the starting point of the whole timeframe (the Edict to Rebuild the CITY)
2.to assertain the fulfilment of the Edict.
3.to commence the original countdown from the beginning of the weeks to when Messiah would be cut off, ie 69 weeks. Make sense?
ie. Seventy is split up into multiples of seven to make a point. What point?
The start point of the 70 weeks is the Rebuilding of Jerusalem (verse 24) or more precise, the edict/order to Rebuild "Jerusalem". OK when did this happen? In 444BC Artaxerexes gave the order to Rebuild the City (Nehemiah 2:1-8). The rebuilding Of the Entire City took, guess what, 49 years "in Troublesome times" (Nehemiah 2 - 7). From this time (completion of rebuild of entire city) the sixty two weeks start.
Now, The 70 weeks are split into three blocks (seven / sixty two : verse 25) and (seven: verse 27). Why? - why not say 70 weeks as is stated before? Why say seven and sixty two? Why not say 49? Did Daniel want to make the passage seem more intriguing or was this the way they talked in them days, like ye old English? Did Daniel have trouble counting? I don't think so.
1.Hebrew is precise and in its precicision it points out and identifies that to which it alludes to.
The context of the entire passage is what is determined for the people of "Israel".
Chapt.9 Daniel realises that the Babylonian captivity will be for 70 years by interp.of scripture( Dan 9:1-3) Daniel then seeks Gods' direction. Dan. then repents of his sin and the nation of Isreals' sin(9:4-19). Then Dan Receives a specific answer. 70 weeks are decreed (determined / set apart / singled out / ringfenced etc) to deal with Isreal "Alone" verse 24. This is the plain literal meaning of the text.
This is very interesting. Iam a theologian and a GAP believer at moment . However, Iam open to good debate and Exegesis. I have also found there is more to biblical interp. than meets the eye. I do believe all interp. must be literal and so I think you raise a good point. We must be gentle with each other while being vigorous in searching Gods truth and we must do this Ourselves as well as listening to others. Now, the text. P.T.O.
@Suge212 Thanks, I'll check it out. There has been much discussion on the Internet lately about tribulation beginning later in 2011 with Elenin and Planet X flying about. I don't feel they're accurate and believe more in your timeline. There's simply too much left on the NWO's agenda to set up the Ant-Christ's return, One world Religion and Gov't. for tribulation to being already. You know what really solves that problem? Is if there is NO 7 year tribulation at all! I know it sounds crazy but the whole idea of a 7 yr tribulation comes from a purposeful misinterpretation of Daniels 70th week by Spanish Jesuit Francisco Ribera, in order to confuse the reformers. @1meangrizzly - I should repent for asking the question? But thats a bit longer then 490yrs (70 weeks).
NOW, here is a test. Who is the "he" the "prince" ?
The answer maybe found in Ezekiels' description of the king of tyre. Ezek.28 see verse 11-19 who is this?
Who or what does Daniel refer to as"princes"? see Dan 10:12-14.
I know this has been a marathon but I hope it may help. I have read from KJ / NIV / masoretic and especially Hebrew / septuagint.
Keep searching for Truth.Shalom.

I believe the gap theory comes from certain anomalies in the text.
1. the two princes (Messiah the Prince) and (the prince of the people who destroy the city and sancturary)
2. he who makes the covenant with many - for one week- and sets up an abomination on or in the Temple which causes desolation.
3.the frase- "until the end"
4. Maybe the most controversial - The Weeks themselves - Seven / Sixty Two / One .
Now, what is the Context of this passage?
