I always thought that the ending was one of the best examples of a completely off-the-wall ending in '40s cartoons - all the more so for appearing in a cartoon by Friz Freleng, who usually kept his gags more "straight" (it seems more like something that would've originated in one of Bob Clampett's "no-no" sessions). It's a pity that such a great ending must be sacrificed in the name of political correctness.

Heh, so thats the ending that they edited off of the TV version shown all of these years (this would normally end at time 7:08).
I had a feeling it was going to have something to do with "Dixieland humor".
How times have changed....or have they?

A few times, I heard the song, but they decided to loop the execution scene a little and dub the song over it.
