[Interlude] "The clouds, hollows, acorns and knots have lighted up with great glare --- as if the whole world was a silver spruce, a silver bittern singing songs. The leafs begin to rustle, the birds start singing," .. [Interlude] "My mother used to buy such candles, They are dozing. A nice intention is dwelling in them.
"She was the first who showed me the moon and the first snow on the spruces, and the first rain. Back then, I was as little as a tiny seashell, and mother's black skirt rustling sounded like the Black Sea. A night. The oil in the lamp is burning out. A mosquito laments around my ear. Maybe it is you, mother, in the sky, is it you, this trickle of stars? Or the white sail on the lake? Or a wave against the sloping shore? Perhaps your hands have sprinkled my manuscript with stardust?"

First: it's not "meet again", but simply "meeting". "Meeting the mother". It's all about reminiscences of past, being shown the moon for the first time, being tiny as a shell while mother's dress was singing the song of Black See waves. About mother waiting with dinner in some distant place - and the author going there, into a great green, into strange yet well known world. The whole thing is packed with metaphores, immensely lyrical, deeply melancholic, all about longing, nostalgia and memory.
Secondly: Galczynski lived a relatively happy life (he had some problems with the communist authorities during 1940s/ 1950s) till he died of stroke in 1953. He spent WW2 as POW in Germany. He is well known not only from his poetry, but also his pure nonsense theatre shorts (very Monty Pythin style, I must say), called "The Green Goose".
What a song "Spotkanie z Matką." Where was this song in the movie? I am a big Vangelis fan and this is the first time I hear this song. Wow...splendifico, magnifico!!! Thanks. Roman Polanski is superb, especially with Bitter Moon!

Just arrange them and light them,
and see what goes out of them:
a precious, rounded face gleam in the candles.
Mother raises a finger. The wind will die away.
Kiss mother's hands and hair
then sprinkle the snow on the alley ways,
so it twinkles and crunches.
Then all the twinkling lights..."

It is Roman Polanski..he sounds like Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders reading the Book of Genesis while orbiting the Moon on Christmas Eve, 1968.

This song wasn't in the movie. It's on the third disc of the album which contains songs that composed by the Master in 2007. :)
