This is a very difficult etude to play well and many great pianists have will not approach it, yet this is another very good performance by Mr. Wunder.
Explodes the once-prevalent myth that the most breathtaking virtuosi come only from certain ethnic groups. This fellow has one of the greatest sets of fingers on the planet.
But what would he do with the Debussy preludes, Grieg's Lyric Pieces -- or Chopin's mazurkas?
if you have been playing piano for 60 years you would have definitely heard of Borgato piano. They are very famous. Their doppio piano has a piano with a pedal board. Someone of your experience of music should know of a Borgato. And it is close to steinway, not only in design but also sound.
Very well played. As for the Borgato: "the best piano in the world"? I've been playing the piano for about 65 years (50+yrs professionally) and I've never before heard of Borgato. It sounds nice, but it's no Steinway.
Welcome to YouTube - I see you've just joined us! Yes, Claire's performance is definitely superior; but I enjoyed Ingolf Wunder's performance, and I hope we hear more from him. I've loved this Liszt etude for thirty years but I haven't even bothered to try playing it as I know I wouldn't be able to do it. I'd be more than happy to play Feux Follets as well as Ingolf. But Claire is very special.
Thank you! Right now I'm studying "Harmonies du Soir", apart from some jumps it is technically not that difficult; but to find the right expression/sound...There is an early recording of Richter in Prague where he plays this together with FF - in my opinion still unsurpassed!
Unfortunately this wonderful pianist has just been eliminated from the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition--he was not selected to proceed on to the 2nd Round.
Competitions don't always recognize the most talented musicians. Wunder is still young and has a great future ahead of him.
this is beautiful, but everybody please listen ashkenazy's version! :-)

You shouldn't have an opinion based on a youtube sound. Furthermore several pianos of the same model may sound differently. Regards :)

What a wonderfully musical performance - makes you forget this is an etude - a truly masterful interpretation

There's a young girl here on YouTube, Claire Huangsci, who plays the same piece and she's technically and musically superior to this guy.
