  • The Open G tuning that I use is GDGB with the lowest, fattest string being the low G. If you go to my web site you will find my email address and I can send you a pdf of the tuning and chord chart.

  • Hi! I appreciate this, but you're going a bit too fast for me... I also would like to hear each string at a time and be told what note to tune to. I just bought my mandolin two weeks ago. I agree some of the chords in standard tuning are very challenging...e.g. Am, F. One of my main motivations for taking up the mandolin is to play with Dances of Universal Peace and they typically use open tunings but all of their tutorials and stuff are for guitar.

  • Sounds nice! One question though, I know standard tuning is GDAE, what are you using here? I'm just starting to experiment, with open tunings on my Mandolin. I would've liked to heard you strum the strings open.

  • Open G? Okay, that doesn't mean that all the strings are tuned G, right? I've never even heard of that kind of tuning. What are the tunings for each string?

  • I really like the way the camera concentrates on the right hand when we really need to see what the left hand is doing.

It adds to the mystery of the whole thing.

  • Really good camera work! Where did you find her?

  • Neat to see your mandolin - has the same shape as my grandpa's old Airline model. :)
