Car companies don't make big blocks anymore because they don't have to. You can get 4 cylinders putting out 300 hp stock which is probably more power output than your "iconic" trans am big block. Stop living in the past and cut your mullett, you backwoods hillbilly.
Yamaha > LS1's, all day, every day. They make more power with less displacement. GM needs to make an engine with 6+ Liters to make it worth half a shit. Yamaha cuts that in half to this day and makes better power.
WRONG. You are comparing a old school OHV pushrod engine to a new age DOHC 24v engine. There is NO comparison between the two in terms of peak HP, torque, and how they rev. Yes the SHO engine makes more power in less displacement, with the help of being a free revving DOHC with 24 valves, and a variable stage intake. Take a LS1, make it into a DOHC 32v V8, then see who makes mad HP.
It's all proportional.....I guarantee that GM could never make more power than Yamaha could. And my point is, they can make more power with less displacement, regardless if the LS1 powerhouse is DOHC or not. The fact is, in 1989, this V6^ made only 20 less HP than a Chevy 350 with nearly twice the displacement. I don't care if it's OHV or not, when you double the displacement, you should be able to at least be competitive with these new technologies.
Right, which is what Chevy should have done in the first place... but they didn't, so the LS1 is what is is, a 16 valve OHV motor that is indeed less efficient than a Yamaha v6, 'nough said. You have a point there to a certain extent. The ZR1 from the 90's made 405hp with 5.7L 32v DOHC. When the C6 came out, it had to be bumped to 6 liters to make a "mere" 400hp. GM needs to bring back DOHC and mutlivavles, don't know why not. Then again look at the Shelby GT500. 5.4L 32v DOHC with blower makes 500hp. It should make 540hp without the blower.

I know what your saying althuogh my dads '97 f150 has a v6 but not an duratec engine It has amanual trans in it and when he shifts while racing somebody its one of the coolest things youve evr heard of compared tosub-compacts an inline 6s,5s and 4s (of course).
But im the type that likes speed every now and then but most of the time the v6 fits me perfectly-ilike to make alot of noise in the city withuot hitting any thing.

If i was driving the viper i would be thinking wtf that family sedan just kept up with me...i myself am working on a 93 SHO so far its at 498hp to the front wheels...just finishing up minor work.. cant wait to blow the doors of some unsuspecting camaros and mustangs...lol SHO FTW!!!

with some tuning a sho keeps up easily i own a 92 sho and i did 14 sec on the 1/4 mile bone stock...so imagine when its moded ;)

i think that the viper was a taurus and the taurus was a viper right? or maybe the viper was driven by a woman with one leg and the sho was bought for $500.00 and had nitrous hooked up in it dunno hmmm

a taurus sho turbocharged at 15 psi equals around 426 hp in a 3000 pound car with low gears. if anything the sho was sandbaging,

Yeah it would considering the Duratec engine with an ECU chip is a RACING engine you lobotomized retard. You can turbo charge a car, and gain some power.. I am sorry but you are sadly mistaken about the engines... Ford has to tone the sedans down but if you know what you're doing you can make that Taurus RUN.

I know what your saying althuogh my dads '97 f150 has a v6 but not an duratec engine It has amanual trans in it and when he shifts while racing somebody its one of the coolest things youve evr heard of compared tosub-compacts an inline 6s,5s and 4s (of course).
But im the type that likes speed every now and then but most of the time the v6 fits me perfectly-ilike to make alot of noise in the city withuot hitting any thing.

Nice view ofthe clouds. Admirable run by the SHO. The truth is, most any car can be modified to go fast. That is what southern californians have been doing to air cooled VW's for the better part of 40 years now.
