Theres a little cave under dimple that usually only heavy people can get caught under. But if you do its like a washing machine and you cant really get out.
No Guide??? Whoever is outfitting these trips is obviously a dumbass. Tons of people have died at dimple rock. Putting a bunch of beginners on river like this with no guide and no helmet is just idiotic.
About 100,000 people paddlen the Yough every summer, and the vast majority do it without a guide. There are plenty of flips and swims, but very few people suffer anything more than minor bumps and scrapes. There have been 9 deaths in or near Dimple Rapid in the past 33 years. That might work out to one death for every 350,000 rafters. You're welcome to stay home and hide under your bed if you want, but odds like that don't constitute a real problem.
Rode the dimple this summer. We didn't wreck, but it was horrific when the guides(yes, we're not pros like u guys) told us that if we fell off of the raft behind the big rock on the inside left that we'd be sucked into a cave and drown. When you hit that left channel of water, you fly. And we only had three guys i our raft!
I went on the lower Yough (and the upper) just a few months ago. it was great. we were lucky enough to keep every one in the boat at dimple rock though. gosh dimple rock sounds like such a cute name for somthing that flips half the boats.
good old dimple rock. i've been down the yough at least 2 times a year starting at the young age of 2. my dad is a tour guide for laurel highlands. i've never flipped at dimple. this video seems to be at high waters. thats always the greatest.
lower yough with low water was not fun!!!!It was highly likely that if you flipped at dimple rock you would get stuck under the rock and drown. NOT FUN!!!i still went down though
lol i went there 2 days ago, but we didn't flip!
