  • Does this play audio, and have a headphones socket if it does?

I.e. I would like the option to listen to audio books.

  • I have a kindle

  • bible, torah, quran and richard dawkins books...

    you're really awesome

    thanks for the vid :D

  • Actually i need a spanish english dictionary wherever i go

  • So do you carry around 100's of CDs with you instead of an iPod?

  • no,because kindle and ipod have music players.

  • HAHA, the bible, the quoran, the talmud and some Richard Dawkins books... epic

  • WIN A $25 KINDLE GIFTCARD. Like "The Fiction of J. Richard Singleton" on Facebook for further details.

  • idiot!! an e book reader means free books!! doesn't mean i'll read it all

  • You sad that who needs kindle and you sad that is useful.

  • my respect for you immediately increased when you mentioned the holy books!! :D

  • I devore books, well, not the paper, but the texts ;-). Besides, when I'm reading, I constantly change to other books, then I return to the one I was reading before, etc, etc.... Thats why Kindle is perfect. I can have thousands of books to continue reading when I'm done with one, or to change for a while.... Love Kindle....(Moreover, my 1000 pages books are really thin and light now....)

  • @exposed97 *sigh* no none of them is right

  • My fingers have a natural aversion to paper (just feeling dry paper is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me). I dunno, it's weird. But I like books so eReaders are amazing for me.

  • Lol

  • this is stupid!!!!!!!i hate it. you sound like a smart a**

  • Lol, pause at 0:46

  • this is why you are on cracked.com. WTF?!?

  • kindle win's

people like to relate it to the "I PAD" but then again they aren't the same shit, kindle is for people who want knowledge, the Ipad is geared to idiots who want to be entertained, and they make it easy as possible, BUttons? fuck that, keep it simple for these idiots.

  • @ricky94533 Hahahahaha! Well said!!!

  • Hyperbolic criticism of the Kindle. Regardless, I still found it very funny.

  • I love my kindle. It's great for me, because I generally read some pretty thick books, and my backpack is too small to fit my textbooks, as well as some of the bigger books I have. My kindle allows me to carry those faves around, without having to squish everything into my backpack. Personal preference though. It's what I like.

  • my only fear of the kindle is that in the long run, less people will read, I mean, by the next generation or two, the reason is that there will probably be hardly any bookstores, and the allure of walking into one and browsing with physical products will be gone. It will be harder for people to realize that books exist if its only in a virtual world! They will have too much competition from other media! Also, because of the self publishing, it will take a longer time to figure out what is good

  • @Saffiros while I understand and share your fear, I'd say its an unfounded one. The Kindle and similar ereaders are a handy contraption, I can barely leave a room without mine. I use it for many of my college research papers, as it's a lot easier to download files of the books i need rather than wait for library exchanges. but nothing will replace the ability to leaf through parchment sheets, its a necessary scanning/browsing function we've developed. The book will remain for generations yet.

  • thumbs up if you masterbate during your breaks at work

  • the kindle.

    reading made easy.

    for crazy people.XDDD

  • I think the guy in the video actually made a point FOR Kindle, not against. What a doucher

  • If you buy a Kindle make sure to get a protective cover

literally hundreds here! Even splash proof ones! astore.amazon.com/kindleskins0c-20

  • Goddamn it, Lex was annoying and unfunny, good thing Cracked got rid of him.

  • hater

  • Am I the only one who, untill the end, thought this was an attack ad on kindle? haha

  • @AstronomyGuru1 Same.

  • what is he saying at 0:58 you gotta h???... am i right?

  • @hcamko14

you gotta hedge yours bets. Am i right?

  • FREE Amazon card giveaway! youtube (dot) com / watch?v=KG8dqNdOQV4 You could also go to my channel and see the video!!

  • @sbo59 ok maybe an anti-progress moron is right, but your camparison to mp3 players, is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of, the average song is like 5 minutes long, most songs now dont make it past 4, I dont think you can read an average type book in 5 minutes. Go jump of a bridge or something.

  • Richard Dawkins FTW

  • I can imagine some idiot doing this same gag when mp3 players started coming out. "For some reason, I feel the need to have more than one album on me at a time, and I like carrying my music in something smaller than a brick!!!"

And you can just hear his smarmy laugh, "Haha, NAILED 'em!" just to realize two years later he is an anti-progress moron.

  • nerd

  • if he has 11 kindles, he must have at least 2200books lol

  • Oh and FYI the Kindle happens to save trees and save you money also.

  • Oh and I work as a civilian government employee, doing nuclear refueling. We hoist fuel rods from nuclear reactors and sometimes we have to wear radiation suites which get hot, I weigh 170 lbs and I am 5'11 all muscle. I happen to order books, I am in shape and definately not lazy and my job happens to be hard work, so cut the ignorance, people like you disgust me. You save gas and time ordering books dumbass.

  • Garge, it's called technology and there is nothing wrong with developing something to make our lives easier. Sometimes people work fucking hard and dont feel like going to the library to rent a book and bring it home, then have to bring it back in 2 weeks. Doesn't mean their lazy they just think it's more convenient so seriously, re-evaluate your thoughts before posting ignorant ass comments.

  • @TrueUSMarine not only that, now authors can get out there without any big corporate publish firm deal, i think is better for the readers AND the authors, is like a youtube for writers

  • I lol'd

  • @superamerica1981 You don't understand how efficient this product could be Its 10.3 ounces, compared to 3-4 books that you would be lugging around On campus, because you can put your textbooks onto it which would be handy Textbooks are massive sometimes Personally I want one because I am an advent reader and I love books. So, please don't say that "until recently nobody liked to read" because I have loved books since i first started reading them almost 20 years ago. I am 23 now, you do the math.

  • 11 kindles?... that's sick lol...

  • Marketing shit!

  • Either that OR people who liked to read never had a feasible piece of technology that appealed to them for replacing books and now that the market is focusing on digitizing and making books available online, readers finally have an acceptable means for downloading and reading books on the go. People have always read books, just because you choose not to doesn't make the rest of the world illiterate.

  • you shouldnt forget that the books cost up to one third less (not to mention illegal copies, that cost nothing)

  • The kindle dosen't support an open format such as epub. Amazon have also deleted books from the kindle without asking. Search new york times website for "Amazon Erases Orwell Books From Kindle"

Please consider an e-reader that supports open formats such as epub. This includes sony's, the nook and many others.

  • Hello, you had mentioned to me via e-mail that the nook has a lot of problems compared to the kindle 2 and kindle dx. You told me not to buy the nook e-reader. Could you please tell me exactly why the kindle 2 and kindle dx is superior to the nook and what problem's it has. I would appreciate a response back ASAP!!! ASAP!! Thankyou, Jeremy28152 Than

  • Hello, you mentioned to me that the nook e-reader had a lot of problem's compared to the kindle2 and kindle dx. Could you please t

  • @jeremy28152 Well, the Nook JUST came out in Nov., so you expect flaws with any new device. For the XBOX 360 it was the whole red ring of death thing, for ps2 it was the fan...ect. Wait a year or two, they'll fix the bugs. I think the Nook has awesome aspects that the Kindle doesn't, but the Kindle has aspects that the Nook doesn't.

  • We should have kindles instead of school books. It would be much easier.

  • I turned my Nintendo DS into a Ebook reader

  • @Abcgummy1791 How exactly did you turn your ds into an ebook reader?

  • I bought a Cyclods Evolution flashcart. It lets you use homebrew on your ds. I have internet, nes, snes, Gameboy and ds game emulators, and an ebook reader on there. Free books are at project guetenburg.

  • @Abcgummy1791 Thanx 4 the response.

  • kindle sucks

  • i for one enjoy carrying a lot of books with me, fuck online books, people are to fucking lazy to go out to borders or somthing and buy a book and take it home. for god sakes, there so fucking fat and lazy they cant take 30 minuets out off there already not so imprtend lives to go to the store and buy some fucking milk. they MUST order it on line and have it delivered. Its fucking disgusting!

  • @garglefunnypantz c'mon man.. don't be retrograde.. gotta get use to the concept man; this is the future.. save the trees..

  • funny, but i have a k2 and its awesome

  • i am deciding which e book is for me. i cant decide because they all look spectacular and are mostly all around the same price. right now i am looking at the kindle 2 and the COOL-ER i love the cool-er because most of the books on their store are free and because it comes in different colors, but love the kindle 2 for its read aloud feature and its web browsing

please help me, i just want the best e book, any advice???????

  • @sofaithfull Just finished first book on K2. Very happy with it. The look is amazing and I've loaded up various PDFs of owners manuals and such. Very handy. Don't have anything to compare it with, but I'm hooked.

  • ok i think that is what i will get then

  • Hello,I am interested in e-books and I was wondering as to what is the the best e-book. I am hovering between getting the kindle 2, kindle dx and the nook. I like the large screan size of the kindle dx,but its quite pricey. I also like the fact that the nook has a much larger library than amazon's kindle. I also like the idea that you can lend books for 14 days on the nook, but I really don't know what is the best e-reader. Please give me your opinion.

  • I ordered the kindle 2. Kindle dx is a lot more expensive, but the screen is bigger, and it's good if you want to read newspapers, magazines etc...

The kindle 2 is good if you just want novels and books. Also kindle 2 is a lot easier to carry. So it depends. The Nook did have a lot of problems. Don't buy it, and the others are good, but I think the kindle 2 or kindle dx are the best,

  • @communitychannel1fan Well, the Nook JUST came out in Nov., so you expect flaws with any new device. For the XBOX 360 it was the whole red ring of death thing, for ps2 it was the fan...ect. Wait a year or two, they'll fix the bugs. I think the Nook has awesome aspects that the Kindle doesn't, but the Kindle has aspects that the Nook doesn't. I have been pinning away for an ebook reader for soooo friggin' long. I want one sooooooooo friggin bad!!!!!!

  • hahahah lmfao

  • Well, I do carry more than two books, and I'd like to read some articles without having to print all of them

  • I actually carry three books at a time, not counting school books. My bag gets quite heavy.

  • I meant "transcribe audio"

  • Turn on the "translate captions" option by clicking on the "cc" button and then hovering over the arrow. LOL!

  • Good job portaying an egg head, kindle guy.

  • I love this man's embouchure.

  • I prefer making xerox copies of all of my books, always good to have a back up if needed.

  • I like cracked, but by this logic we don't need MP3 players right, I mean rarely do you listen to more than an hour of music at a time or portable gaming systems because one game can take 30-40 hours. Yeah you only read one book at a time but for the same weight, and price which would you rather have one book or a small library?

  • I would give this comment 10 thumbs up if I could. Thats the whole premise of the Kindle. The fact that you can carry so many books at once. Some people read through books quickly, travel often or read very long books. For those reasons the Kindle is great. You can immediately start reading a new book when you finish one since you have so many in your hand to choose from. It holds your place in all of them and public domain books can be downloaded for free/cheap. You have a dictionary built in

  • @awesomevegan the kindle is disgusting.

  • @SpoonsForks This comment was completely unnecessary. It just makes you look like an illiterate book hater.

  • @awesomevegan um k no it doesn't.

for your information kindles will make books become obsolete, so I won't partake in any of that.

  • @SpoonsForks Kindle is not making books obsolete. It is encouraging people to read more. People are reading more and reading longer books because you don't have to struggle with holding a huge book open. It is great for people with eye problems since the font is adjustable. It is great for people with arthritis or shaky hands because it is easy to hold and push the button. The fact is books are still alive. It is just a medium to read them from. iPods didn't make music obsolete.

  • @awesomevegan No, it makes it HARDER for people to read. You know it takes a person 7x longer to read something typed on a SCREEN than in front of them? And you have to charge them. Like "ooh my book just ran out of batteries" what a noob.

  • @SpoonsForks I read faster on my Kindle because I can push a button faster than I can turn a page. Also it doesn't strain my eyes. It isn't the same as a computer screen. No one is forcing you to buy one. So what if you need to charge it. You don't even need to charge it as often as a cell phone. I haven't completely stopped buying books in paper because I have a Kindle. I prefer some types of books like cookbooks in paper. It is a personal preference.

  • @awesomevegan cool story bro

  • @SpoonsForks if you've ever used a kindle you'd know that the screen is spot on identical to a printed page. Also the battery can last a month on a single charge since its not backlit, which is why its so much easier to read than a typed screen. You really should get your facts straight before saying something like that. I love my kindle.

  • @MiamiLlama Except people DO listen to an hour or more of music at the time. Like me. & the majority of teenagers who use mp3s just while walking, working out, getting to class, on the bus, all that fun jazz.

While with books, sure you might read one a week, but that's one small thing to carry around. One small thing that doesn't cost $140. Something you can mark the pages of, write in, & hold. I mean, I'm not the only one who likes actually /having/ my book in hand, right?

  • @MiamiLlama the only difference being it takes a little bit longer to go through a 300 page book than it does listening to a 3 minute song and its not the same price, you have to buy the kindle with is $130 or so dollars plus you have to RE-BUY the entire library of books you purchased before the kindle. at least with the mp3 you didn't have to buy all your cds over again.

  • @MiamiLlama the kindle costs as much as one book?

  • @MiamiLlama No, because listening to music requires an electronic device anyway, so it makes sense to make it smaller and hold more memory. Besides, most people who use iPod's get through more than 1 CD's worth of music in a day (which is basically the equivelant of a book, except books take much longer).

  • @MiamiLlama As for Portable gaming, carrying a PSP with one game is equivalent to carrying a book, whereas carrying a PSP with all your games is like carrying a Kindle, which is pointless, because you probably won't even get through 1. As for the price, Kindles are way expensive as a 1 off cost, not to mention that you can't buy cheap second hand books for them! Face it, you do not need to carry a small library! It's consumerism preying on the weak minded.

  • not that funny

  • So what happens to all the books you've bought and stored on your Kindle when you drop it on the sidewalk and it's damaged beyond repair? Does Amazon send you a new kindle and let you download all those books again for free?

  • i love my kindle

  • 0:01 - 0:02 : no shit we can tell

  • Cracked has mocked the Kindle for being unnecessary, but if you think about it, you could have said the same for cellphones decades ago. "What kind of moron needs to be able to call someone all the time at ANY time?" And yet now it's practically become a necessity. I could see something similar happening with the Kindle, if the price comes down and they extend the battery life.

  • Well, what kind of moron DOES need to be able to call someone all the time? Cel phones have not improved communication. most people make dozens of totally unnecessary call each day. "Oh, I just have one for emergencies." Last time my car broke down, 5 people stopped to offer use of their phones. I guess I really didn't need one after all.

Yes, the cel phone has "practically become a necessity" ...ha!

  • Just because YOU consider calls from outside the home unnecessary doesn't mean they are for everyone. Some people actually have shit to get done that, 30 years ago, they would've taken longer to do because they could only accomplish it from the office or at home.

  • Why are you angry? It's not like cell phones are hurting anything.

If you don't like them, don't get one and shut up?

  • lol, all the religious books ... and richard dawkins lol

  • Wasn't the best I've seen from cracked, although I chuckled at the end!

  • It's basically a console for books?

  • Comment removed

  • It is a col device but i think it is not for me.

  • I'm not sure but trying to comment.

  • Kindle is gay

  • ELEVEN KINDLES? You are a loser man...

  • jajajaja yeapppppppppppp

  • joke retard...learn to take one

  • lol dumbass

  • Why people dont realize the kindel is the future of books. Not because i need 200 books at the moment with me all the time. But is the end of the books itself as we know them. It saves trees! the books are cheaper, it helps to school kids, college kids carrying around so many books, never run out of stock, etc. Thinking this well, Im a lawyer and I do need to carry 200 books with me at all time!

  • "The end of the books itself as we know them."

Doesnt that scare you at all? Farenheit 451 dude, thats whats gonna happen.

  • im wondering what do you mean???

  • It is really scary. To think that technology is taking over everything? I love my computer, and my cellphone, don't get me wrong, but it's scary none the less.

  • Well think of it this way. If all our books are computer programs, just think how easy it would be to delete them and make them a fading memory. Not that this is a bad idea, but replacing books for good with something like this seems a bit more risky than helpful. Know this it's not hard to see why someone would be a little overwhelmed by the thought.

  • I kinda wish there were some stainless steel sheeting "books" with the words pressed in, so they can out last us, but that takes some moniez.

  • not nesesarily. especially electronic books are very small in size (digital size that is). You can make several backups on dvd's magnetic media or even online. backup and recovery of thousands e-books will take only a few minutes while copying ONE ordinary book might take up to an hour (maybe more depending on the size of the book).

  • Actually, if you look hard enough you could probably find just about every program that ever existed on the internet. For free! I wouldn't mind having access to free books that could keep for as long as humanity is still around.

  • this is not reading, this is screening, on a Kindle, we read on paper surfaces of a book or magazine, we screen when we look at text on a screen. it's a new verb: screening. google danny bloom and alex beam to know more

  • that has to be the gayest hipster comment I have ever come across....

  • FA G GO T

  • Don't buy a kindle.

Amazon will delete whatever content that it doesn't think you should have.

Invest in a LAPTOP of NETBOOK where you control your own content, not Amazon.

  • LOL! i love the kindle and really want one but this was hilarious

  • Kindle is lame. The rumored Apple tablet will kill the kindle.

  • Saves the environment by not wasting paper. Is light and portable. Holds up to 200 books. Has a built-in dictionary and an atlas......

but.....it's wayy too expensive, runs on batteries and only has one function....

  • i think this actually would make aperson look dorky...

  • 1:11 was that Diary by Chuck Palahniuk? Great book, amazing author.

  • ..the fact that he said "masturbate" just got me lost.. is it a serious advertisement or just joking around...

  • "reading made simple. for crazy people."

    *shakes head*

  • I hate reading

  • I f they lowered the price a bit, I'd be game. We could use this to save the environment!

  • @haloid1934 not sure if this would save it? it would lower tree consuption by maybe .0001%

  • @haloid1934 now its only $139! so u gonna get it? lol

  • The books you buy are cheaper than hardcopy ones, but the device sooooooooo expensive even more than a laptop!

No way, Amazon want to create a new editorial standard, when kindle will be cheap may be I will get one...

  • the Catcher in the Rye joke made me lol

and I know this is a joke, but he actually makes some pretty good points on why owning a Kindle is a good idea...or owning 11

  • gimme one? :D

  • although it is a bit expensive, there are a few major advantages of the kindle. what a few people dont know is that the books that you download from the kindle is less expensive than if you buy the book itself...

AND! people, think of all the trees we could be saving! we could save a huge amount of paper with this thing!...

  • but it isn't the same reading a book from a screen. i live for flipping pages and smelling the print. with the kindle, all of the sensory details would be gone. i dunno, i just rather pay the extra money for the actual book.

  • What, exactly, is the big problem with having this? Its awesome to read, I love to read. I've always wanted to have my own library...it would be sooo awesome, but..... i don't have 400 bux for it :( Or, if u was at the beach...you kno...and u jus finished a book, you can just download another. How awesome is that?! I would love to have one :(( Whhaaaaaa

  • the new ones are 350

  • wow. that was funny how they made the kindle look really stupid. it seemed to me that they were being sarcastic

  • Great video! I don't see why so many people are being so harsh. He does have a point, kindle isn't as essential as some people might think but it is a good tool if you have the extra money.

  • Lol, obviously the purpose of being able to store 200 books is so you have them available for you to pick through (like your own library) Think of an mp3 player, who actually listens to the 1,000+ songs on your ipod everyday?

    This is cute though...

  • ehhh i do :P

though i do also think that a kindle is a nice toy, but not a valid substitution of books.

  • Other than college students, no one else really needs this.

Read one book to the end. When you finish, leave that book at home and pick up another book to read to the end. If you're not jumping back and forth from one book to another before finishing the first book, then the first book that you haven't yet finished is all that you need to carry at this time. If you have ADD, get medicated so you can read one book.

    So simple.

Why do people make things more complicated than they have to?

  • A kindle looks like a nice idea, but it's a bit too expensive for what it does.

  • Yeah, cause 12 year olds need alot of books?! Ur an idiot. I am majoring in History and I am lugging around tons of books every day! A kindle would make my life heaven. Anybody smarter than a box of rocks needs one of these!

  • I like to (or rather, need to) sell my school books back at the end of the semester, try that with a Kindle! Plus all that lugging is good exercise, something people don't get enough of these days.

  • Dude, you beat off?

  • I think the good thing about the kindle is that it allows people to read things they may not bother with previously.

Say what you like anything to get people to read more is a good thing. As someone who likes to read thick novels on the train I know I'm going to get one eventually so I'll have more room in my bag.

  • It seems like this is more of a parody of the kindle than an ad... Seriously who does need a kindle unless money is no object? $400.00 for any book any time is NOT worth it. A regular paper back book is $8.00, and they're reasonably small, you can carry a few of them with no problem. The kindle is completely useless!

  • what if you want to carry several complete series of books? Where are your books then? A bag? *laughs*

  • You are obviously not much of a book reader, I know people who would squeal with delight over such an object. Your own library! C'mon!!

For now, I am going to stick with the same 5 books I read over and over again.

  • I need a small library of books on yet another overpriced electronic gizmo like I need a shotgun to my head. I read books for pleasure, not to pace myself at a book a day. Not to mention jumping back and forth between 3-4 at a time as well as the daily paper and 3 magazines.

It's time to unplug from the electronic bullshit and watch the world. Those that run around with their ears full of iPods and cell phones need to listen to the world.

It is the ultimate reality show and is free.

  • Funny, but some of us actually do lug around a bag of 10 or so books on some days, as we attend university classes. Some of us (linguistics majors especially) would love to have multiple dictionaries, including the complete OED, on hand at all times.

I will be happy to own one soon.

  • I second this statement.

    Plus, new books smell nice.

    I rest my case.

  • lol

  • someone help this man buy a kindle

  • I think the main point of the 200 books, is that it's hard to develop low-power consuming ways to store data, that go below 256mb of memory. That's all that's on the Kindle. I think they pretty much said "hey, this is out, it'll cost us more to make something smaller, so lets just leave the extra storage there".

  • I'm done with this subject, if you don't like it then don't buy it, enough said.

  • well done!

  • Comment removed

  • By your logic most ipod users are categorized with kindle users; no I do not need 2k songs with me at all times, but it is good to have a selection. You are failing to appreciate a convenience of having a selection of fiction to entertain your brain while away from home, either by public transport on your way to work or traveling out of town. I recommend that you try looking through the eyes of the persons that you plan to ridicule and you might develop an understanding for their actions.

  • there is a difference between a good selection of songs and a good selection of books. songs have a duration of 2 to 4 min with some outliers at 30 seconds and 25 min, books are generally a lot bigger, who reads a book for 5 min, and then switches to another book? usually people who read, read one book at a time from start to finish, and unless your reading childrens books, your not going to finish 4 or 5 on the bus

  • Yeah... Your video is pretty pointless. Kinda just wasted 1:37 of my life. Thanks assholes.

  • At some point you will realize that your whole time on youtube is wasted, then your gonna be a sad sad man.

  • Yeah, what haters dont realise is that there entire life is a waste.

  • :p E-book readers are badass, though, not a fan of the kindle...

  • I agree with Marceebs 100%

  • I think my favorite part of the kindle is that you have to pay 10 cents per item to load any of your *own* content. As a programmer, I own a lot of books on pdf, and I've already paid the publishers for those books.

Kudos, Amazon! You've found a way to charge consumers for content they bought elsewhere!

  • holy crap.. they charge you to load your own stuff.. screw that ill stick with paperback
