I just wanted to point out for the people commenting, one of the limits of the HW engine is you can't get your capital ships to roll over. As a result, in a ship-on-ship engagement, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cain roll the pegasus to keep her guns trained on the Galatica at all times.
Now, I'm not knocking the Galactica. I LOVE that ship. But, I have my doubts about its ability to survive in a confrontation with the Pegasus class, especially captained by someone as intelligent as Cain.
Exactly. the Mercury class has "twice the firepower and twice the armour protection as the Columbia Class (Glactica)" I know that doesn't mean it's literally worth 4 Galactica's, there's other factors to consider, but enough said, it's clearly much more powerful. Nobody in their right mind can argue with that.
I would say that Galactica could win if and only if it could continuously outmaneuver Pegasus, considering Galactica had its armour mostly removed, making it lighter. Otherwise, the double firepower of Pegasus would do it in relatively fast.
Cain is very aggressive, I sure no doubt her voracious nature is what attributed to getting her the rank of admiral. Then there's Adama whose tactical and strategic skills comes from being very resourceful and always thinking outside the box.
Ship-wise however, Galactica is a bucket compared to the beast; the Mercury-class Pegasus. Adama would really have to pull a miracle out of his ass to win a battle. :D

its even better if u stay level/sligtly raised but right behind it, then you get all front, top and bottom rails giving hell, and taking no damage. thats the best one todo =)

Galactica is more capable than you think people, she has 8 batteries on the top, another 8 on the bottom, plus some around the front of her, she is more than capable of taking Pegasus out, although while Pegasus probably would win a fight, it'll be left in a seriously fucked up state.
Galactica has 4 front batteries if I recall., these are both fictional ships so it's pointless having a argument over it lol, but head on Galactica could still lay on some damage. It's a shame we've never seen her front batteries in action.
aye galactica has 6 in total on the front-nose (im such a nerd for knowing this haha) but, pegasus can arc about 14 up front, without the addition of the side-pod-based guns xD
nice tactics, better ship or not if your target doesnt go into your firing arcs you arent gonna hit it XD Peggy has some nice armaments but if you can stay out of its forward arc it cant bring those to bear. So if they really fought, the battle wouldnt be as hopeless for galactica as everyone might think. Adama would find a way to keep the fleet out of the hands of that psycho Cain....lol

You could have had the Colonial Fleet equivalent of Horatio Nelson or Adm. "Bull" Halsey in command of Galactica and it wouldn't have mattered. Cain is more aggressive and has a better ship. Adama is far more defense-minded; he won't last against the Great Galactic Goddess, Cain.
i agree up untill the defence minded adama, his JOB is to defend the fleet, but he can be aggresive. just look at the miniseries you pointed out, he wanted to go out into the fight. also look at series one, he was fairly aggresive to take that asteroid.
He WAS aggressive but then Roslin effectively neutered and feminized his warrior ethos. Adama only attacked the asteroid because they absolutely needed to and the Res Ship he only attacked because Cain was there. Cain had no problems going up against superior numbers and coming out ahead. She was amazing, a legend. The point is, Adama generally will stick to defensive formations only and very rarely go on the attack & when he does (Exodus) there are a great many losses (the Pegasus).
but on exodus he had no-say in the pegasus and what it did there.

Dumb Question: If the gun batteries along the top of Galactica are 16, and there are another set of 16 on the bottom side of the ship, are there any forward-facing batteries too?
yes, there are a few forward faceing underneath the every nose of the ship.
however the FLAK system to intercept fighters and missiles is often best used when the top of galactica is faceing its target.
although if its going against anouther battlestar, its best kept level or above its target, depending on its targets own weapon systems. so for pegasus it can be kept level, but to the aft of the ship, meaning all the batteries can let loose :D or stay ontop so peggy cant shoot it :D
Thanks for clearing that up. I am not a gamer and I have never seen Galactica fire anything other than the topside cannons in the series so I wasn't sure.

The mod it still a work in progress... especially the AI. The Pegasus is more of an offensive weapon and the Galactica is more defensive, so that's why the Pegasus has several blind spots. If you just shadow it from above for the whole battle the Galactica will barely take any hits.

I beat the Pegausus by keeping the battlestar on top were it can't fire back, and just waited for it to end. My ship was like 5% helth left.

if you watch the video i made next to this "pegasus vs galactica" you see me flying the pegasus, and the pegasus most definatly torn the galactica up.
the AI cannot use the ships as efficiently as a player can.
and dont understimate galactica, even in the series they say if they DID fight, pegasus would sustain some really heavy damage.
yeah, never underestimate the galactica, it has ALOT of heavy-rail gun positions.
in the mod i stayed clear of peggys fireing arc. check ur pm's =)
