  • ICED EARTH WITHOUT MATT=MAN WITHOU BALLS..BUT RIPPER HAVES BEATIFULL VOICE FOR THIS SONG...:)

  • I really prefer that singer

  • this version sucks big time... and it's not the matter of comparing the vocalists. Anyway, it makes me fucking sick when I see comments like :"Ripper is better in hitting the high tones, and Barlow is better in singing low..." Anyone who knows even a bit of singing will know that the fact isn't in "hitting some hi/lo notes", the thing is in the interpretation of the song. And by that, with all due respect to Tim Owens, I think Matt Barlow has no equal. He left his trademark in IE

  • @Harris2133

    Well said.

  • @Harris2133 I agree with you about Matt...But when it comes to technical I think Ripper is a better Vocalist.Even Stu is a great one!

Its all about the vibe of the song! :)

  • Upset that they didn't include the clock ticking in the background at the end

  • no emotion at all..just metal metal and metal. He fucked the song.

  • Both Ripper and Barlow are awesome. Ripper hits the high notes better and Barlow for lower pitches. It all depends on the song. Ice Earth ftw!

  • God Damned...fuckin´ brilhant. But i prefer Barlow´s version!

  • one thing that jon needs to quit doing are these pointless palm mutes. it sounds bad.

  • @megapurify That's pretty much what makes Iced Earth part from other bands mate

  • @megapurify almost all metal guitarists use them. most of these songs sound horrible without at least some muting.

  • dude dont care what noone of you say dont listen ripper i think you are way way better than barlow u kick ass whereas barlow just kicks the curve you fucking go ripper with those insanely high classic power metal vocals woot!

  • if ripper was a lottle bit more throaty and growly like matt, this would be the best. i like matt's tone, but the notes are better written on this. i'd like to hear matt do this version.

  • Ripper is really good until "The sacred few survive"... when it comes to low octaves, Matt just kicks ass! Ripper is not for low, deep voices.. hope Stu does it better, because without "hellish" voice Iced Earth simply lacks something... and that something is BARLOW :D

  • I don't like this version, although more because of the style than the vocals themself.

  • Both are good vocalists.

There are themes where Owens is great (really awesome is the glorious burden and even more the Gettysburg 1863 album !!! (especially High Water Mark song o.o)

But on the hellish and so on themes should definitely Matt Barlow be the vocalist!

Same with this song here. This song is much better by barlow in my opinion.

  • I like the old version but Ripper does it justice. His voice isnt as dusty sounding as Barlow and Ripper can sing the high's better. They both are great.

  • well this one sucks

  • Nah I like the old version though My man tim had kick ass vocal here. Vocal was kick ass but didn't like the music. Well still rocks.

  • I rather this instrumental, it's more thrashy, but with barlow's voice.

    can someone mix? =P

  • I always felt sorry for Owens... the guy has an amazing voice but because he sounds like Halford, he is always been pegged as the "replacement" guy.

  • Ripper all the way!...check out him diong Abigail live;)

  • Ripper all the way!...

  • drumming is way better on the new trilogy by far!

  • Barlow does the slow, dark singing better, which would be my guess for why Schaffer alter the song some, to take advantage of Owens higher intensity. Personally, I prefer Barlow, his ability to switch between different styles of singing brought out a greater range of feeling in the songs.

For faster songs that keep up the intensity throughout, Owens is definitely the better vocalist though.

  • What did schaffer do to the song? he should have just stripped the vocals and kept the original

  • how people can compare barlow to ripper? they are both great but they are so much different as well.

    \m/

  • Iced Earth shouldve just stayed with Ripper. Barlow is an awesome singer too but what was the point of coming back to just end up leaving the band again in such a short time.

  • @thunderkisss1965 where did you found out about that? and how long ago?

  • In this order:

Best 'Prophecy' singer, Owens, because the way he sings the lyrics are more enticing

Best 'Birth of the Wicked' Singer, both of them, especially in the Duet version made by 666JSchaffer666 (look on the list to the right)

Best 'The Coming Curse' singer, Barlow, because his voice and method of singing are perfect for the 'apocalyptic' effect of the song.

Thumbs up, those who agree with me :)

  • i started listening to Iced Earth because of Ripper, i personal believe he is way better than barlow

  • @Sc0rpioX666 SO do i except birth of the wicked

  • It's a moot point. Matt Barlow quit the band again and was replaced by some guy who sounds like crap.

  • I prefer the guitar and drum work here than the other one with barlow but i prefer barlow's vocals haha. tim is good don't get me wrong.but to me iced earth ain't iced earth without barlow in the band. same goes for schaffer. ain't iced earth either without him

  • idk why they felt the need to redo this an kill it...it was totally uncalled for...Ripper is a good vocalist but he should def NOT sing Barlow's songs :/

  • THE RIPPER IS THE BEST. BUT THE REASON I STARTED LISTEN TO ICED EARTH WA THE ORIGINAL BAND.I SAT FOR HOURS AND LISTED TO THE ALBUM ABOUT DAMION AND FRANKENSEIN AND OTHER HORROR CREATURES. SO COOL ALBUM, MADE ME LISTEM TO OTHER ICED EARTH ALBUBS.

  • iced earth should just keep owens and move on to a better career. thats just the way it is when it comes to singers and the music biz. pauldianno wa great but dickenson was better. look at them now. the truth has been spoken. owens should stay here or start. a band called the ripper it would do great and he could have any one he wanted to play in his groukp just do it. he ripper i can mak u sond like god i am the man to rum your sound., danny lee seymour, man.

  • I have to say i like Rippers version a whole lot more

  • Barlow all the way!He can be gracefull as well strong. To be a good singer in a band that has more than one "mood" you need that.No wonder john brought Matt back to the band.

  • @cliftonite187 They brought Matt back, because the old school fans kept bitching about Ripper. Im sorry, but Ripper is a better singer. You may prefer Barlow better, but thats different.

  • @jpaynecr Ripper is Better Singer'' Matt Sucks live and aint in the same League as ripper'' John Fired Ripper Because' Ripper Wanted to his Beyond fear'' and john wouldnt let him Write Songs'' John is a Punk Bitch Drunk

Matt is Good'' But Ripper Is Amazing Control Power And can Sing Anything'' he is the best Ever Ever Hands down

  • @kromlord1 Ripper is better but matt is good live man

  • @cliftonite187 please'' John Brought matt Back' Because Ripper heart wasent' full into the band'' John is a dickhead 16 band members in Iced Earth' Ripper Wanted to do his own thing'' and didnt want to Sing Songs About StarWars' and Sifi Crap' Ripper voice in both i Iced Earth Albums' are the best vocals ever on any cd Epic

  • I am so glad both versions of this exists, they are both to awesome!

  • i love his voice \m/

  • thist versions likes me ..BUT.. the guitar riff!! thist version needs the powerfull riff of the original!

  • Ripper sounds awful to my ears, no soul, he even sings flat a few times. So lifeless.

    IN MY OPINION.

  • this version lost its musicality...

  • I like tim's voice but i prefer halford screams, hmm hard to chose.

  • Ripper version much better

  • I love the ripper, barlow doesnt deserve a second chance

  • The original version is so much better, simply because the intro sounds so much better with just clean or acoustic guitars, it makes the distortion so much more powerful wen it does come in, and adds more contrast to the song. But it does sound cool a 4th lower.

  • They made the required changes to the music and Ripper's voice fits. However I prefer Barlow's version.

  • I like this version! The original is more dramatic and this one is more heavy but they're both great.

And Tim is great here \m/

  • The Ripper/Barlow debate will last forever... Although they are both great.

  • @oberstul Just because human stupidity also will last forever, in a smart world everybody would realize they're both amazing and be greateful of being able to lsiten to their killer work.

  • @SpawnRevenge92 Amen!

  • @oberstul screw barlow ripper is the best and you know it/ the only reason for the lineup change is because schaeffer is on his high horse again

  • @robb138999 I like ripper better but give barlow credit to man.

  • ripper owns barlow... what albums is ripper on? hes so much better of a singer... i fucking love the ripper.. what other bands is he in? does he just fill in for bands when their singers go on hiatus? please inform.. thanks

  • @PezoCon He's currently singing for Yngwie Malmsteen's band Rising Force, and I think he has some solo shit as well. either way, Owens kicks ass and this version totally rocks the house!

  • this sounds very similar to something wicked part 1

  • @CommissarNibbles

Didn't the EP that this song is from, and Something Wicked Part 1, have the same members?

  • The only thing you can blame Owens on is the vocals. He didn't write the song. Schaffer did. Yeah, Ripper's singing isn't like Barlow's, but what else were they going to do? Barlow left. Schaffer was stuck without a singer and half an album to do. To me, Owens is a great guy. He helped complete Glorious Burden and whatnot. Frankly, if he hadn't have come in, Iced Earth might've broken up right then.

  • Matt Barlow is my fucking hero, and he is and will remain to be "the" Iced Earth vocalist. But Ripper Owens did a very commendable job on this version, I actually liked it better than the original because it's way darker. The screams are flaming insane! It's expected that Ripper would sing it very differently because it's in a lower key (Jon used baritone guitars on all Overture of the Wicked tracks), Barlow wouldn't have sung it any different if he were to sing this song in this same key.

  • doesnt he sound sort of like king diamond?

  • Ripper is a great singer but the original of this song with Barlow is much better

  • ....i just hope that now with matt back jon stops improvising with these classic songs that made him and iced earth famous....

...and also i would prefer the judas priest fans stfu, stop messing with iced earth and stop spoiling matt's image with telling that rippy is "the singer that iced earth did not have".

believe me, gene adam and john greely could perform much better on these songs than tim did.

tim is a good singer but not for iced earth.

all of these IMO of course....

  • @AngelHolocaust666

And in my opinion, you're wrong. Gene was a terrible singer all around.

  • Different, but not bad. I miss Jimmy's bass playing though, so much better then the one on this version. the part at 2:42 - 3:12 was done badly IMO, theres a huge lack of power the original had.

  • Agreed.

  • Definitivamente, Owens le daba más power a Iced Earth...

  • barlow who ripppppperrrrr

  • Everything on this song is so much better than the original.

    VOICE

    GUITAR

    DRUMS

    BASS

    SOUND QUALITIY

    ART

  • nah man old school iced earth quality is what they are known for. it was just as good without being made in a song with jungle effects and all digital. And ripper sucks on this compared to barlow. its out of key and has not nearly as much feeling and emotion as the original.

  • what the fuck r u on, in this song tim has much more power than barlow, but i do agree with u im glad matts back.

  • great music ...but i prefer barlow's voice..

  • both are grat vocalists... I can't say I prefer one from another, cause they're so different

  • @xtistis88 wouldnt that make it easier? whichever one u think sounds better is what u prefer

  • @xtistis88 Why can't ppl have this attitude?? why can't everyone do as us(agree and not dis) why does everyone have to dis everything weather it's another vocalist in a band or band..-.-

  • Barlow>Owens

  • Pretty cool, but not as great as it was with Barlow.

  • Barlow's better, but this one's great too!

Thanks for the uploading, buddy! !!!ICED EARTH!!!;)

  • @Platinum1050 Barlow Voice Sounds All Cortoony his High Notes Have No Power'' Ripper SmokesHim

Ripper Has The Greatest Range' in power metal ' nobody can touch him he is the best of the best' Barlow Style is good'' the stuff in the 90s' but he is Sad To Watch' live
