  • love the song but all the championing of "real" hip hop is just annoying. Hip Hop seems to always move forward despite the "fake" emcees anyways...

  • @blackpixieful in a way you're right. but also, you cant deny lately it feels like its been moving backward.

  • WHERE IS THIS INSTRUMENTAL AT!!!!!

  • what origonal beat is this?

  • illest

  • The first half of the track is really good. As usual Mos delivers powerful messages with a smooth, laid-back, easy-to-receive style.

  • It wasnt well recieved?

My response, like mos def says : "F*ck what they say"

  • Gladiator, circus world

Glamour, pussy, pimp, ho good to serve this world

Paranoid, itchy trigger nigga nervous world

Shatonic natural order in reversal world

The ipod, no God, zero circle world

  • the ppl who wrote the critics must be gay

how can you prefer Lil wayne or 50 Cent or Souja Boy or Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber??

we should put these ppl in the deathchamber ;)

  • Funny thing is most of this song was spawned from freestyle.

  • mos def andre 3k and the homie cee-lo need to make a album together that'll go hard

  • man such bullshit that mainstream people didnt like this cd. why? because it didnt have album art and was in a shitty case...but is that what makes an album??? fake ass pics of rappers posing in superimposed backdrops holding fake guns which has all been photoshopped to show their perfectly umblemished shin and perfectly toned, tanned and defined body..goes against everything mos stands for in my opinion

  • Just listen to that beat man!

So minimal but so full, so rad!

Fuck those 23 cents and lil wienie waynes!

  • this is rock hip hop jazz all of misic in one yup tha's real hip hop

  • Realness messageness

  • Fake Bonanza - "Shaitan got your natural law in Reversal World; 'Ipod No GOD'; 'Pretty Poison and Pork Suasuage, Cold Caffeine & More Cauffins'; '& HELL IS EVERYDAY!"

  • Has great voice, could rhyme like a God, and has perfect beats... Mos Def is fuckin' dope as hell!!!

  • Landmines be disguised as weclome signs

I'll repeat it so you ain't got to press rewind

Landmines be disguised as weclome signs

Black fresh from Iraq, a wild look in his eyes, missing part of his arms

What the f*** is your problem? Oh Lord, fake bonanza!

  • What I find annoying is when I see meaningful and quality music like this on youtube that only has a few thousand views and then Ill see a meaningless track from 50 Cent or Lil Wayne with over a million views..... Music is a representation of the people listening to it, I feel sorry for most people!

  • Yea there living backwards give them sometime.

  • that's nonsense. People choose who they want. I don't know about Wayne but Kanye and Jay-Z are both lovers of listening to and making music. You only consider someone a sellout if they trade in who they are for an image or money. Jay and Kanye are just being themselves and if tomorrow 10 million people decided to buy Mos Def's next album and he became a superstar, there'd be a whole new sect of people calling him a "sellout."

    Ridiculous.

  • @getjasonborn, good comment

  • thanks jeff. It's the truth. People forget that behind Kanye and Jay's music (along with others) are YEARS and YEARS of grinding. The song that first got Kanye recognized by his own admission wasn't even the song he wanted to push, and you can follow Jay's career from the hood on up since the 90s. But if you're no longer in the streets (or never was to begin with) and everyone's always crying about "keeping it real" then why persecute anyone who's being true about their OWN lives?

  • pretty poison and pork suasuage cold coffee and more cauffins

  • A lot of MC'S is DEF but they not MOS!

  • this is the kind of shit we need in the hip hop soiciety, not no newboyz shit fuckin rainbow culured jeans and shit, we need too keep it one hundred

  • Comment removed

  • back fresh from Iraq with a wild look in his eyes....missing part of his arm..what the fuck is the prob?

  • is mos def talking about the shooting of sean bell?

  • @jjtiojohn12 To answer your question, YES he's speaking about Sean Bell and the hundreds of thousands Sean Bell's and the millions of potential Sean Bell's. He's speaking 2 and 4 black men in this country who either don't have a platform, the heart, the intellect/awareness, or the vocabulary 2 be taken seriously. The men who've been done wrong and do wrong, "Oh Lord save our soul." A Fake Bonanza is a mirage/scheme designed 2 bring wealth, good fortune, and power to it's creator.

  • Yeah, you're right.

  • HIP HOP!

  • Gladiator, circus world

Glamour, pussy, pimp, ho good to serve this world

Paranoid, if she trick a nigga nervous world

Open twenty-four hours, all about them dollars. Welcome to America.

  • I think the third line is actually "Paranoid, itchy trigger nigga nervous world".

  • "Long investigations and no firm lead, billion dollar flow

And black life is still cheap"

    ooof genius

  • nah its the gun as mrc.. said

  • MOS DEF+MOS DEF LYRICS=TRUE HIP HOP

  • Its lik you can feel the deepness and nihilistic-ness in his voice. Very nice.

  • landmines be disguised as welcome signs

black flesh from Iraq - a wild look in his eyes

what the fuck is your problem?

  • thiss is my new favor song of all time...

  • And hell is everyday, fuck the world anyway

Potion and sips, spark up a clip, FADE AWAY!

  • can somebody help me understand what he means by "an 8th an O a key on the caliber of your rap shit"

that is so twisted to me.

  • "lets talk about today's mathematics: an 8th, an O, a key, and the caliber on your ratchet"

  • ok, that makes more sense now.

    thanks

  • ya thats the only line i dont get 2 ???

  • do you understand now?

he said, "talk about today's mathematics: an 8th, an O, a key, and the caliber on your ratchet"

mathematics stands for the things goin on in society that are hard to understand and unfair basicallly.

its also a title of a song he did in 1999.

but an 8th, i believe, is in ref to weed.

an O, is in ref to an OUNCE of cocaine.

ratchet is a tool, so hes meaning it as a gun bcuz hes sayin "caliber"

  • a key is a kilo..

  • ya got it after i posted i didnt but thanx anyway

  • the killa murder world

    hamburger murder world

    open 24 hours

    all about them dollas

    whoooo!

  • i know right, he is too ill!!!

  • Such and underrated album.

  • *nod* I approve.

  • "I heard em say it was all about the Benjamins/ I don't believe it now, didn't believe it then/"

  • Fake bonanza, become real wars......bullets burn through the candy on the driver side door...long investigations and no firm lead, billion dollar flow...and black life is still cheap....

  • "Flossy and raw so self-absorbed immature, I can't remember being this bored" so much said with so few words..MOSDEF for PRESIDENT 2012!!!

  • one of the sickest songs ive ever heard. holy fuck....when he breaks it down with the low singing voice with no beats. god damn

  • Preservation Made This Beat Ill.

    And With Mos Def's Rhymes....

It Just Makes It Sound Like A Great Single.

Dont Know Why PPl Dont Really Like This Album...But For Me Is its A 10/10!!!

  • love this shit. this is hip hop

  • I agree with you jose Mos is one of the best. Him along with Common and Keith Murry are my inspiration everyday I get in the lab. Check out my song

  • I liked this album, though a lot of ppl shit on it... I actually thought the underproduction was a good thing... that's the best way to listen to mos... and this track is still my favorite off it. Mos is def one of the best to ever do it.

  • its my favorite also

  • u are most definately correct...only those who can fathom mos to the fullest parameters can appreciate the underproduction on true magic....his lyrics superceed any beat...even if it is the dopest beat.....that's y he's the most beautiful boogieman :)

  • yeah man

    WORD!

  • I would love it if Mos did a track with Krs-one and Rakim,or Jeru the damaja and Keith murray

  • Well if he replaced Kanye on the song classic - that would have been amazin

  • 4 real

  • Mos is a true artist, he can sing and rap, and he stays true 2 himself wen doin both, one of da best artist/rapper out right now

  • mos def is a real "musician" fuck all these ring tone fagets

  • MOS DEF THE SUPERIOR LYRICIST

  • i love the story tellers and mos def is one of the hottest that ever did it and he killed it on this track

  • spit hot fire like dylan on chapelle skit

  • recognise

  • Mos Def is a Real Artist

  • Incredible lyrics. He's back stoking through hip hops competition. I grew up with Hip Hop. I'm grown now...and hate kiddy gangsta hip hop. This is grown folk BI right here. Mos is the Bob Marley of hip hop.

  • This is such a beautiful joint!

Salutari.

  • da normal :) Support non materialism hip hop

  • mai sunt , da :) visit my channel bro ! peace

  • @rightful8912 haha si eu sant roman din austria :) real hip hop universal peace spread da message :)

  • @rightful8912 mai sunt cativa...da numai cativa

  • @rightful8912 subscriu la randu-mi

  • This beat is the shit, but no one else notices his flow and delivery becoming more lazy (not in the good way) after BOBS?

  • Mo Def is a really unique, creative, artist. His music is really diverse, he changes it up on every track. I really like how he brings in a socio-political message into a lot of his music. I don't agree with EVERYTHING he says but I agree with a lot of it and am happy he brings it up. We need more musicans who speak up in our republic, people like Mos Def.

  • i actually thought this album was amazing.

  • fake bonanza, is symbolic of everything that is considered counter culture. His opening verse describes a middle class person who is vain and shallow. This type of person is socially acceptable, in america. We are being brain washed daily to be what this system says is acceptable. Also, we are taught to shun everything that does not fit this model. "the land mines, be disquised as welcome signs, back fresh from iraq, wild look in his eyes" analyze this

  • this is one of the truest songs i ever heard, every song mos def puts out has meaning and truth behind it. He pulls the wool from ppls eyes but i guess some ppl refuse to see da truth.

    ...True Magic...

  • amazing song

  • Damn, this album true magic make me feel like blue magic, while listen it.

    Mr mighty mos def

    save oure soules oh lord

  • Agree with all your points. I personally like it because it makes me stop and think-- and that's what true hip hop is all about. This song in particular sets a mood for reflection; do we ever play into the fake bonanza? Unfortunately, sometimes we do-- we're all in check, and the least we can do is admit it and try to get ourselves back on the right track. This song helps us do so.

  • Very underrated song.

    ~The True Bonanza

  • I didn't like the album that much but "Fake Bonanza" is by far the best track on it. I'll always but Mos Def's albums.

  • Agreed, I liked blackstar/ black on both sides way more but this a great track thanks for posting it! It's funny how Mos hates on white people but we're the ones who buy his albums(for the most part)

  • Most def does not hate white people, why can't white people understand that a large majority of the race is against poor blacks and also against blacks that will challenge and expose the hyprocrisy of this government. You act like your people are the only ones that can contest what is wrong, or have a revolution. I'm not against white people, but I know this system that we "poor blacks, and self conscience blacks" live in is against us. Check your history, and how you all have done the same

  • yo...you hit it right on point. Im glad you addressed what Mos is all about, and YES this culture is definately brainwashed. Everything that doesn't coincide with the masses is portrayed as rebellious or terroristic. Keep up the good work, and KEEP THINKING!

  • mos and GFK Best 2 rappers alive

  • THIS is HipHop...no exaggerated beats that distract from the real talent of creating rhymes with message...just a simple beat, giving a direction...greaT!

Imo, Mos def is THE american rapper...no need for bitches etc, like almost every other rapper

  • "The inmate number, the centerfolds for measurement

Is close as a coed cell come to some tendon-is (tenderness)"

still cant understand why this track (this album for that manner) wasn't well received. Mos Def is truly a Definate article of Hip Hop.

  • I totally agree. I actually thought this was an excellent album for the most part with the exception of a few (very) questionable tracks but for whatever we're in the minority on this one. This track is one of the album's best hands-down.

  • This track is sick, classic............
