This car beats the competition when it comes to off-road capabilities... now days all the new SUV's look good and ride like a sedan but fall apart when roughed around, suzuki for one still has its true 4X4 roots present to this day and any other previous flaw concerning traction have been resolved with the ESP system, while still looking good.
Sorry for responding so late, but the Forester has Symmetrical AWD; not true 4X4 (locking low-speed differential). That is the big difference when it comes to off-road. Also, just look at the price difference...
@kadjach Both Japanese, Both very capable (still think vitara has true off road blood with that low range transfer case), Both are very useful, but what about warranty and maintenance cost? What about the initial price, fuel efficiency...that's what you have to look at.
I live in Western Australia and have the 2010 3 door 2.4ltr Vitara If you look at my Hoffmans Mill vid you can see it) . Im sure with the right tyres this thing would drive up walls. In the scrub its unstoppable. On the beach it could do with a bit more ground clearance. Once the 'New car' thing wears off I will chuck a lift kit at it.
Zooks rule. Yea the Toy-otas and poo-trols might have bigger engines etc but zooks are way more fun !
Has anyone compared it against the Hyundai Sante Fe, Chevy Equinox, Mitsubishi Endeavor(was on sale for $25k recenty) and other similiar priced SUV's?
Anyway, I did manual calculation which has determined I get 17MPG highway and city. The electronic meter on the vehicle always says, 19.9MPG and never seems to change. It is telling me I'm getting 2.9MPG more then I am.
im a owner of this cat good performance and all + its about 4-5k cheaper than most in its class when with the 4x4 take it off road and it gets me where i wanna go I'm happy with it
i used to own a chevy cheap mexican built piece of shit. now i drive a suzuki. if chevy are so good how come you never see them racing in paris to dakar. why because they fall apart in normal driving conditions. most of the time japanes cars win the race.they may have lost the war but they build better cars that americans. chevy, like most things american they are full of shit.

Please don't buy this vehicle for the 100,000/7 year warranty like I did. This vehicle has 9,000 miles and the factory Yakohama tires already show a decent amount of wear under normal driving...eg cracking and pits. Factory tires are bad for snow and the body has already began to rust underneath along with the Suzuki, 4x4 decals on the back are salt corroded and pitting.
I paid over 25K on a vehicle that feels like it's worth $12,500 new!
I have over 30K on my original tires, no problems yet even though my oil is overdue for a change, took it off road a couple of times with not problems. The tires do suck in the snow but the traction control and the ABS certainly help, and stock tires aren't made for the snow anyway. Only regrets is it is an auto and I didn't get the lowrange w/lockers.

Hello, I own or am making payments on a 2007 Grand Vitara X-sport 4x4. Let me I hate it and wished I had purchased a Chevy Equinox LS for the same price or cheaper.
A gear box sticks out on the bottom which can easily be damaged if you off road like in this video, the premium stereo system is junk, the body dents easily, the gas mileage is horrible(runs out quickly)17MPG(It will say 18.9..don't believe), shiny decays on steering wheel reflect sun and the ride can be rough.
excellent video, can you tell me whats the model of the kendwood raido that you put on your car, it looks so good i wish that i could but it on my car

"small interior"? What? It has the widest body in its class, more cubic than the first RAV, and the same as 2end edition RAV, still less expensive, and more standard stuff like sunroof and bi-lights. A great car, i got the DDiS diesel powered version.
i rented a grand vitara in november and i was very very surprised on how it handled, but tobad it has a very small interior, but still a good car for a single person.
