He is 14-2-3 record wise... he is an inferior striker. The only people to beat him had great grappling. The point is that if you are just a boxer. Or just a standup guy... your done. You have 1 shot to take him out. If he gets you to the ground and you dont have a groundgame, your finished. He has put his money were his mouth is. He is not cocky. He is simply stating a fact proven in the ring.
I can think of few people with bigger balls than this guy. He's always put his money where his mouth is. I simply can't fathom the vitriolic disrespect he gets from many on YouTube.
@billysue2 the whole point is not that he's superior now, it's that the martial art that his family created is the best one, meaning that if you don't know if you're not going to beat him in an MMA fight. he's just trying to say that unless you learn to grapple, your striking abilities can be the best but they wont stop me from beating you. and he backed that up when no one knew bjj
@Welsh77 The Gracie Family didn't "create" anything. Mitsuyo Maeda a master of Kano JuJutsu (modern Judo) came to Brazil and taught the Gracie family Judo. Helio Gracie being the smallest of his brothers began to define his techniques of Ne Waza (grappling/ submissions) so well to defeat others. In the end Helio Gracie still lost his match against at the time the best Judoka Masahiko Kimura.
@DenCinco He did lose but kimura said that if helio (or anyone) lasted for more than 3 minutes with him in the fight he would consider it a defeat... helio hung in there for 13 minutes. so although helio technically lost im sure it was considered a defeat in kimura's book. not bad for the lighter and physically weaker helio
@Welsh77 bjj rocked the world with ufc yes. you must remember the person using it was a person that had extreme expertise in it. possibly on the street and the ring. For the average person to trya nd use bjj ont he street, is not a good idea. All its good for is getting into a position to get up and out. if your in a position to exit a street fight, but you stay and break an arm or choke a guy out, your being charged, not them. Sad truth. Besides other things that are foolish.

@DenCinco Kimura also claimed that if Gracie could survive three minutes, he should consider himself a winner; the fight lasted 13 minutes.

@Welsh77 ok bjj isnt the BEST martial art. there is no one superior martial art. its all about how you use it and the fighter himself.

@Welsh77 bjj is not the best martial art. there is no best martial art it depends on the person not the style.
