  • he's just too good. that's all there is to it.

  • It's so sexy no other sound in the world!!! oh what it does to me sax, sax, sax!!!!!!!! Renie

  • 2:05 YES.

  • Very well done to the guitar player too! He doesn't get much credit

  • @MikeyM1231 I believe that's Paul Jackson, Jr. and yeah, he's famous in his own right.

  • Very tastefully done—you BEAST you!!!

  • The notes that he gets out of that Saxophone, I've never heard before...BRILLIANT!!!!!! One of the best Alto Saxophone Players I've heard...

  • my bad.. must be a custom Cannonball...I want one.....

  • Is that a Selmer in white and gold....I want one...

  • Sos un hijo de puta gerald te pasas de lo groso que sos y los demas no se quedan atras

  • My My My....It doesn't get much better than that....

  • God Bless you Brother

  • que pajaaaaa

  • I love how so many people ask what sax and mouthpiece he uses...... Most of those who ask think that a new mouthpiece will make them sound that good, when it is actually years of intense practice.

  • @hobo9596

Yeah I agree. I hate when people obsess about getting the "the best gear". The mouthpiece or saxophone doesn't create Gerald Albright. It's his ideas and person tone that matter. Transcribe and try to imitate him to every extent.

  • @hobo9596 True. They get their equipment for free anyways.

  • @hobo9596 Yea, obviously they're not gonna sound like that right off the bat. But the sax and mouthpiece make a huge difference. They both change the tone immensely. Think about the contrast between a jazz setup and a classical setup. Just from changing the mouthpiece and reed alone, you get a different sound. So, are the mouthpiece, sax, and reed important? Yes. Will they make you sound like that right off the bat, hell no.

  • what is the brand of his mouthpiece??? plz

  • @carilove1

    Beechler

  • You can tell he's definitely, if only slightly, influenced by Bird, you can hear it it some of the licks he throws down.

We're playin this chart in jazz band at my college right now, I love it.

  • so soulful love it altissimo is ridiculious

  • I'm a working pro and I play this song at almost all of my gigs. The crowd always loves it!!!!!!!!!

  • That's a Selmer Series II that he is playing on.

  • @BriansThing i'd disagree with that. he's good, but my no way the best it the world at the moment

  • @rodelliot why would selmer players dislike this??? i'm confused

  • @walsh93jazz Because the Cannonball saes are incredibly edgy!

    Gerald Albright.

  • somebody send me the notes PLEASE!

  • The best alive period point blank...

  • @fsnoopydogg Apparently you've never heard of Chris Potter, David Liebman, Eric Alexander, Antonio Hart, or any number of other saxophone players. He's good but there's no way he's the best right now.

  • @ryanjm181 what is best??? yes their are very intellectual players out there but this man is very versed in jazz and chooses to play simple and bluesy I respect a jazz musician who can play blues right not many out there that can or choose too....just my humble opinion

  • LOVING IT

  • All seven dislikes are by Selmer players, I bet.

  • lol "daaamn" whistle at 8:52

  • NO WORDS....

  • I love it!!!

  • Gives me Chills!!!! Whew!!

  • Best Solo !!! Absolutely Great !!! Yeah !!!!!

  • This solo is a very fine display of Albright's range. After seeing this clip, I've made up my mind he can play the 'phone with distinction and originality.

  • this might sound strange... but my favorite part of this whole video is 1:07... the F#... it's character completely contrasts the note before it... and it's just so Ffffff sweet....

  • 7 people are on crack or something. Definitely one of the best of all time

  • Amazing...that sounds good!

  • Dio c'è!!!

  • Super GERALD, JUST BEAUTIFUL

  • FANTASTIC *-*

  • fantastic...

  • Best alto player in the world right now

  • He is one of my heroes, but I would definitely say that Eric Marienthal is on a par. I've heard him live in california and the impro is just unbelievable. Says something that I went across the globe to hear him playing! Listen to Big Phat Band live at Disneyland 'Hit the Ground Running.' Incredible sax

Two solos... listen and weep, because you'll never be able to bend notes quite like this!!

  • creamed in pants... i freakin LOVE this song!!!!

  • @geelop you're not alone!

  • once again, I would LOVE to know the amazing jazz guitarist in Gerald's band!

  • @1979saxman yeah ,me too!!! Who is him??

  • Just another fabulous performance from one of the greatest alto players that ever lived.

If you enjoyed this check his live recording of Georgia recorded in the early 90's at an LA club date. It's even better. Gerald's very humble and probably one of the most professional musician's I've ever had the good fortune to see live. Thanks for the post!

  • ESPECTACULAR !!!!! GERALD ALBRIGHT !!.

  • 8:53 I hear someone whistling!!!!!

  • Looks like Paul Jackson Jr. on guitar. They did a lot of work together.

  • who are the other instruments?

    drums?

    bass?

    guitar?

    keys?

  • he has alot more emotion than most saxophonists. however imo he could growl a little less..

  • AMAZING ALTISSIMO! <3

  • Damn it! Man, Stop it!! LOL

  • what is that effect gerald is doin from 9:15 - 9:21?

  • @kingsax01

    overblowing a front f with a growl

  • i would like to know the names of the sax books he study.

  • @Ryosuke324

Its not the books that teach soul...have it or not...it can't be taught. If you have to have a book...start with the bible and go to some gospel services.

  • Go Gerald teach me how to do that

  • Boy Oh Boy! Gerald Albright is TOUGH!

  • @wingandaprayer1 : Overdosing on Chocolate? Man, you said a mouthful! Ever since I was little ( I am soon to turn 27) I have been enraptured by jazz! Gerald Albright has a tactful performance style that takes the listener by the ear, and holds on until the last note, which, if he has his way, may NOT be until the end of the night! Lol! I have yet to explore every generation of Jazz, but I have found a quiet resting place in Gerald Albright, and other outstanding performers!

  • @Daydreamer1083 This is the most sensational saxophone solo I have ever heard (I have just turned 74) and I've heard 'em all.

  • @Bsaxplaya Thanks for the advice on this one...had me stumped too. If I ever do get my Selmer SII relacquered, I might go for that look. Very classy indeed.

  • @blueted1

Technically there just scales. You have to really know your scales and be able to name them on the spot to do that. If you're intrested in it, look into buying the book "Art of the saxophone" and that should get you started.

  • How do you play the thing that he plays at :

    1:11-1:13

    1:20-1:23

    3:04-3:07

  • @blueted1 practice and practice till your fingers fall off

greets from a Conn Ladyface 1948 player

  • very nice !...

  • what key is this song in

  • @Bsaxplaya What kind of saxophone is it

  • yessssssss!!!!!!@ 1:31

  • Can this man play that horn or what?! Damn! Gerald Albright is the sh*t!

  • *________________________________________*

  • Does this just sound good to me or do you agree???

  • not that same with the Cd record?????????? but still one of my favorite player

  • Is that a Beechler mouthpiece? Anyone know?

  • @Jazzsaxman1 yes it is a diamonod back beechler...check his website for more details about his setup

  • Man, GA (Gerald Albright) and GA (Georgia) will forever be linked by this all-star performance by the smooth jazz sound of Albright. He simply brought the house down with this rendition. And to thank Ray Charles for dedicating this song to Georgia inspite of all the challenges he faced to perform in this state. Oh, and Paul Jackson Jr also brought the house down. He's one of the best guitarist out there.

  • Word

  • what mouthpiece is he playing on??

  • No one can top him. You play man all night for me.

  • bamm this MF wrecked shop

  • The word range indicates that there is a stopping point from highest to lowest note

    destroys that definition

  • Man, this was the best ten minute song, ever. I just got his "Very best of" album, and this song happen to be on there. I must have played it about three of four times, back to back. I just had to see if it was a video on You Tube. Mr. Albright just got himself a new fan.

  • muito bom

  • Damn!!

  • This is a saxophonist who has complete control over his instrument.

I love his performances of Georgia.

  • 144,704 views, and im responsible for what, half of that

  • This is amazing...I love the sax, too. Gorgeous.

I love how he leans sideways whenever he really gets into it.

  • Just love it.......

  • He looks like Carlton Banks :)

  • @jaketyx You mean Jeffrey !

  • You mean Geoffrey :)

  • @jaketyx hsuahaushs LMAOF

  • Gerald Albright has total control of the alto sax. Nobody does it better...

  • @Bddau LoL IDK Grover Washington was a beast on the alto too... But Gerald is a master no doubt about it

  • this is Alto right?

  • Alto, yes.

  • to those people that study sax, this is a good example of good DICTION, each notes are very clear, no matter what speed his going.

listen to his Tridents,i have learn sooo much from him!!!,and still learning from him , and i will for all my life. Thanks you Albright.

  • how can gerald have so much soul and the guitar play not play with any

  • Comment removed

  • god gerald albirght is a saxophone god. I love his music so freaking much

  • I've enjoyed Gerald Albright's combination of technical mastery and musical expression for two decades, and this has been one of my favorite performances of his for a long time. He's really an idol for saxophonists (not to mention his other musical skills).

  • allc these guys have some chops - hate to see someone get in there and get killed

  • This tune is HARD!!!

  • This is the Greatest sax player of all time in my opinion. Gerald could make any horn sound good, and his range is unmatched to this day! I wish I could get lessons from him.

  • lenny picket has a really high range on tenor =S... piccoloish range

  • i wish other sax players stop tryn to find ways to hate on someone thatis great... so y try to criticize some one about a damn horn if u r a real sax player u make it sound good no matter wut. U PLAY. i HATE ARROGANT MUSCIANS... SO STAY ON DA SIDELIDENS AND WATCH HIM PLAY... my thing is to play to wut ur fans like not to somebodys expectations

  • Competition....that is what makes them so good...just like sport....!!!

  • well y everybody is tryn to decide what kind of horn he is playn its not necessary.. the man is just great.. so all u sideline watchers worryn about how man times the man played a lick stop hatn cuz damn sure dont c u playn nowhere... cuz i know every musician plays a same lick more than once so stop da frontn.. im a sax player my self so give the man credit he is awesome.. he has his own style and every player should develope there own technique... i think most musicians show know that by now.

  • He quit the Selmer and now plays on a Cannonball Big Bell Stone Series. I dont think he sounds as good on the Cannonball.

  • He plays his own signature series of cannonball saxophones....Cannonball Gerald Albright series

  • That's a Slemer SA-80 II. You can order it in a white or black finish if you want to pay a little extra. Now he's rocking on the Cannonball that has his face on it.

  • Series 2 SA80 I believe, though it not important as far as gerald is concerned. It seems to have a little more nuance than a canonball. Great playing.. Learn your chords properly is what listening to this tells me.. No Blagging ;)

  • fantastic bluesy filling

  • 6:31 I've heard that lick a million times, but that slurred leap to altissimo (6:35) is new...haha

  • wow there's the long altissimo note at 9:24, and after that you're already blown away, hen at 9:35 you realize he's going for the next when, and i really didn't think he was going to make it, but he probably did that on purpose too, and then he nails it, and then WOW!! XD

  • Gerald is just great.. enough said

  • Great music !

  • I think this is his signature song. He lights it up. I saw him in Miami way back in the day and he brought the wood on this tune then too It was right up there with the the Birdland West CD. That CD is not so good after the first 3 tunes.
