yo man this is the mastermix of all time for me. I found this tape on TDK in my house when i was 11yrs old and still got it to this day, and fixed it a million times. This classic made me the mixtape DJ i am today. thanks for this clear sound, DJ RAMON,Richmond,VA
@doublej999 They still alive and in music business, but not as "The Latin Rascals". Albert is working as music producer, and Tony is working as DJ in Clubs and events around the world.
@doublej999 after their radio editing days ( 83 to 85 ), they pioneered the new york freestyle sound, producing the cover girls, tka, noel, nocera, tina b, safire and making a few club hits themselves with "arabian knights" and "don't let me be misunderstood". they broke up and went their seperate ways around 89 or 90. Tony Moran has been singing , djing and producing. Albert Cabrera has been editing.
I was 10-11 years old during that time. Every weekend, I would buy 2 "Normal Bias" cassettes for $1.50 and pray that the Latin Rascals would be on one of those nights. If I remember correctly, they were on every weekend on KTU but every 2nd or 3rd weekend at Kiss with Red Alert and Chuck Chillout doing the other nights. 11pm would come and you knew immediately if they were playing...always with the elaborate openings. Those were the days!
i thought i hard it all but this sounds like the latin rascal i dont remember them spinning on 98.7 kiss maybe 92 ktu or hot 103. bls and kiss fm was the hip hop stations. but hen again im a old man now and dont remember lol
@dumdumcry go to 4:02 and you can hear the announce from kiss FM ;) .. when you go to part two of this mix, you can hear the dj saying, "The latin rascals at the turntables on 98.7kiss fm" ;)
oh damn you right where the hell was i lol the only thing hard out of 98.7 was red alert then that was mad years ago but thanks for finding it damn good to hear what hip hop freestyle was

Ok...Somebody knows what time it is...Good looking out!! Please help me out!!!!
@ricremdej on a sampler cd called "Street Jams 'Electric Funk' Volume 2 " the title is named "Jive Rhythm Trax - 122 B.P.M." ;) I have the cd right here ;) The whole CD series is available at Amazon. I checked it out these seconds.
@miller4th502nd...Good lookin out on that cut, chief. I 'm trying to retool my library with cuts I used to have when I DJ'd back in the day...This was definitely a banger! Thanks again!
I was in NYC in june 1984 and 98.7 Kiss FM changed my life when I could record some tapes with this music that I broght to Bogota, Colombia and Hip Hop started with this mixes in our Bboy batlles in the parks, doscoteques, ciclovias, bazar´s and Baila de Rumba on Caracol Television and Panorama with otto Graffenstein.
I still enjoy this sounds for more than 26 years....98.7 Kiss FM!!!
@djlordyasin43 Thanks for the kind words, its a treat to hear about those who loved our mixes, this is Albert Cabrera of the Latin Rascals,I have some special mixes I can try to get to you! I'll have a video on my page soon for a new release.
@albertcabreraful Hi Albert, nice to see that you are be here in the tubes. Special greetings from Germany, the mixes from the LatinRascals are here also known and unforgotable. They are still awesome.
OMG! I grew up with all those mixes in East Germany! (thx to RIAS) ...and iI still have it all on MC.How did I wait for saturday evening and "Studio 89". Thx Miller for the great Memories!
Stell Dir vor... weit weg von Berlin und ostdeutsches Equipment. Also sei froh mit Deinen Möglichkeiten von damals... ;-)
@pleissbach hehe, lass mal.
Amen I still use open reel tape to this day nothing has ever sounded like tape and never will. It was true skills back then bouncing tracks and using a razor blade. Not some clicking with a mouse like now.
They need to search the archives and put all the great mastermixes on a complilation CD,this is some memories here of what N.Y radio used to sound like, now it's just garbage,Hot 97 and power 103 suck.
I hear you. I don't even waste my time listening to New york radio anymore, and get this. I use to be a Kiss fm mastermixer in the late 1990's & early 00's. I was on the air Saturday night from 9pm to 12pm MIdnight with the Duke Johnny Allen. The best days of radio was from 1979 to 1984 when Frankie Crocker was on WBLS & Shep Pettibone & Latin Rascals on Kiss fm.
Man the Latin Rascals were icons of their time. As a former DJ they did nothing bit bring huge admiration. We all tried to copy the style that they created, which at the time was unheard of. Loop edits spectacular!! Bad ass mixes. I really wish someone could find the original mix recordings and offer them in a clean digital format.
@djsazon I'm from Illinois so I was limited to what I got through friends, If there was any way I could get some of these mixes I would love it!!!....Peace
Yo!! I LOST MY MIND WHEN I FIRST HEARD THIS!! I WAS RECORDING IT AND JUST HOPING THE TAPE WOULD NOT STOP!! THANKS FOR POSTING. This inspired me to become a dj, producer etc...
Miller Wow !I didn't know New York's influenced went that far during the cold war era.I was in Germany back in 2003 very beautiful country and yes what it use to be east Germany also looks great now.I hope democracy will not get taken over by socialism here in America, what's happening lately with hussein obama it's a scary feeling.
I remember this too well!!...I was in Brooklyn then; with a brand-new boombox in hand, I recorded this show that night while hangin' with my crew. The very next day I started trying out my own editing using the pause button, making my own edits. These guys took mixing to a new level with their style. I was almost in tears listening to this. Thanks for takin' me back in the day with this classic mix segment!!! ONE LOVE, ALL LOVE!!!!
thx ... and yes, also when I live in Berlin and not NewYork and when I heard the mixes few weeks and months later as you as they aired here on the local radiostation RIAS1. Always when I hear the LatinRascals mixes, it gives a feeling that can try tears in the eyes and a light rumblefeeling in the stomach.
do you remember that station on medgar evers college 91.5 FM?? from1981-85? The best mixes i have ever heard, i think from 3pm-6pm. i think i still have a few tapes.
If you go back through all the comments in this Youtube, it starts to prove how legendary these mixes were. I think we had been woken up early in 1984 hearing these crazy 'edits' that inspired so many of NYC's youth. Lucky for me I spent the next five years w/ Omar Santana & Carlos Berrios, by 1990 we were all doing sh*t nobody ever thought was possible. damMit! I got to give Omar a call. Tony & Albert thanks and thanks to whoever posted this...I'm a 42 year old teenager right now....peace.
Hi Frankie, do you know how old Tony and Albert were when they were doing these crazy edits? Also, i was told that Tony and Little Louie Vega use to be tight but had a falling out. Any idea what that was all about? Thanks
Maaaan, I still hope that one day somebody will find the original studio tapes of these mixes... Some of them just have pretty crappy sound quality cause they're taken from old cassette recordings. Or can somebody tell the Latin Rascals that they should bring out this stuff again - on CD? ;)
Ooops, sorry, deleted you question. No I don't have any entire 3 hours Mix of the Latin Rascals. .. All mixes that I have are not longer as 1 or 2 hours.
a huge debt of gratitude is owed to the latin rascals. They forever changed how music is mixed and edited.latin rascals are the best ever, with double dee and steinski second.
The original 98.7 Kiss FM was the greatest radio station of ALL time! NYC might be safer than it was 25 years ago, but the music is sure worse now. Peace.
OMG! wow is ben that long? Flash back with the Puerto Ricans in el Barrio and 115av NY. We usto break to this one in the streets. Remember the blue Lees/adidas in a b boy stand
I love this jam, I am listening to it again & cooking at the same time, well in between dancing in the kitchen...love my classics from back then...I need my dancing partner.
Don't know it exactly, but you can see in the tubes that they have own musicprojects. I think, today they are in the background, producing and managing, making remixes. But I'm not sure.
well tony moran is big time producer and dj these days. albert cabrera do some production and editing work..he goes by the name of one rascal production.
thank you Tom, I feel like I am in da Fun House NYC back in da days...awesome, I remember dancing my butt off this jam...oh oh here I go...getting hyped up 2 dance...LOL
The Latin Rascals !! Wow!! these guys kept me moving !! I love it. The best mixes ever!!!
Still have a few mixes of theirs on tape.

I can't recall if there was ever any pre- announcement when The Latin Rascals would be on the air. Maybe they did if you listened early enough.
I always tuned in on Saturday nights where you had either Red Alert, or Chuck Chillout switching every other week (i believe) from 11pm to 2:30 am.
If you turned on the radio, and you realized The RASCALS were coming through your speakers, u went scrambling to find a blank tape.
Which is why NO ONE has a complete Rascals mix from KISS FM today.

Tony & Albert thanks and thanks to whoever posted this...I'm a 42 year old teenager right now....peace.
frankiebones01 3 years ago
Hi Frankie, do you know how old Tony and Albert were when they were doing these crazy edits? Also, i was told that Tony and Little Louie Vega use to be tight but had a falling out. Any idea what that was all about? Thanks

Maaaan, I still hope that one day somebody will find the original studio tapes of these mixes... Some of them just have pretty crappy sound quality cause they're taken from old cassette recordings. Or can somebody tell the Latin Rascals that they should bring out this stuff again - on CD? ;)

what is more amazing than there crazy Mix Editing, is the lenght of it. if i can put into movie terms, great action from begining to end...

The original 98.7 Kiss FM was the greatest radio station of ALL time! NYC might be safer than it was 25 years ago, but the music is sure worse now. Peace.

Creative0Mind 3 years ago
Don't know it exactly, but you can see in the tubes that they have own musicprojects. I think, today they are in the background, producing and managing, making remixes. But I'm not sure.
