The speed boat in question was operating at high speed in the most congested area of the small bay. While there are no speed limits posted, this guy was a danger to all craft. The worst are the commercial tour boats as far as throwing a wake, however the larger weekend warriors seem to turn off thier brains when they turn on the ignition. Just last weekend we were nearly hit by one in Pass A Grille Channel - A couple of feet closer & you wouldn't be reading this.
What's up with the comment about the power boat? Everyone shares the lake. I sail on the Chain O' Lakes, IL and contend with power boats all the time. They are not even that close to you. They are no danger to you. They are going by so fast, they don't even create a wake. I'd much rather a power boat goes by me wide open, as long as I'm not in his trajectory. If he slows down, he creates a wake that will throw you. At that speed, he is actually minimizes the time of his audible disturbance.
That I can respect,I'd carry it on my back to get a chance to go sailing.Been once on my uncles 55' ketch years ago and now that I'm nearing my target retirement age I really want a live aboard sail boat.Didn't mean any disrespect, just as a truck driver I have seen my share of people getting in over their head pulling large trailers and endangering themselves and others.
I have enjoyed watching your sailing videos while I await spring in the North East and the opportunity to put my first boat, an Oday240, in.
It's also refreshing to see someone post a video that may be "less than flattering" and perhaps a good hearted poke at themselves, Glad to hear it has gotten easier. You have more guts than I do. SO glad mine will go in once in the spring and out once in the fall.
We've gotton a lot better at launching since. I've been using a combination of mirrors and looking over my shoulder which is working well and I'm gradually using the mirrors more. It helps to have a friend who is a teamster. The other way to launch at this ramp is a 90 degree jackknife to the blind side - which is actually easier!

MrMagoo- No worries - None taken. We should probably do another video now that we halfway know what we are doing! May not be as much fun though! M

Maybe you should learn how to pull a trailer before yoyu try to launch a large boat like that. There is alot to be said about walking before you run!
