this is so funny.A diffeent age though , seriously whether u from the prairies or the city music was just more personality and alot less centralized authorities obviously. The beat was free and easy just like a black baptist church.Things ain't changed so much after all! Bach perf in 1830 musta been scary Mendel can allow for this type of fuzziness .But Beeth and classic or Baroque music played freeand easy in nineteenth century . what they did to da ancients. .
Fascinating, because here everything..and I do mean...everything(from the the incredibly widely broken chords to the chaotic central tempo and the splitting of the hands),is done in a totally different way than we would think to do Mendelssohn...Yet he lived in the Culture of the same time and plays very much
Thanks for uploading this historical performance.

How wonderful that you know how Reinecke played! And here I thought Slonimsky led a long life....

Reinecke left some performances on piano rolls. He was the oldest pianist to leave us anything.

Oh really?
Thanks for the info. That's interesting.

Actually, I have never clicked the similarity between Reinecke and Plante's playing - seems obvious now it's mentioned.

The Piano is an ERARD. His personal piano, probably a late 1800's model.

A delight to listen to and a very unique performance, far from present day interpretations but closer to the original period, considering the source.

A fabulous example of Historic Approach to rhythm before the 20th century.Never steady or constant.Ever Accelerating & Deaccelerating
