Amazing stuff. I've just started getting into denim, over the past few months, and this video just put me over the top, Where can I get jeans that have that high quality? Specifically, the '47s. I just noticed that my Civilianaire has a selvedge watch pocket, but it was a pain finding those. I appreciate any help.
I saw a lady wearing something like this. It was highish rise and looked like a guy jeans, and seemed like it has a cinch thing. She looked amazing. But I didn't feel like asking her what jeans she had. It had a big looking Levi tag.
When I was a boy back in the 1970's, my mother would buy unwashed 505's for me at Sears (in the work clothes section). I believe the regular price was $20...$15 on sale. All were true to size and made in the USA. Now it's all become some kind of fashion science; numerous styles, colors, etc made out of crap material by slaves in Asia and Africa. Can't even find a pair of new, unwashed 505's that fit properly. It's shameful.
Yes, we made this film before the 1954 was re released and became a best seller for Levi LVC XX. I'm not sure if the 1954 was brought about to represent a 'carrot' fit and was considered to have been customised ? Hence the zip.
@anotherraybanfan Your right it is Lee Morgan/Art Blakey. We have a few other years to add now, including an 1873 and 1954. Glad you liked it. wwwEleven-shop.co.uk
I started wearing Levis in 1958, All levis sold in the UK at that time were 502's. (the same as 501's but with a zip fly). They were all shrink to fit. The first few pairs had rivets on the back pocket (only visible from the inside, but later pairs had bar tacked pockets. One pair that I bought in the mid sixties was made in France. The noticable difference was that the denim inside the fly was light side out.
i know this is a silly question , but how much are those jeans worth. im trying to start a levi 501 collection , and the oldest i got so far is a pair from the 80's i think. but i still have no idea how to tell them apart. if you can help me out that would be much thanks.
The 1947 is a big favourite of ours. If you like the fit you could try the 1967 505 which is similar if not little neater and higher in the waist and the bonus of no shrinkage as it was sanforised. Or for a comfort - straight try the 1966, 1978 and 1983. We're glad you like them. Cheers.
The "Every Garment Guaranteed" line on the leather tag is also a "tell." I think it went out in '66, but I'm not sure. I owned my own vintage-jeans shop for 15 years, and I've sold God-alone-knows how may pairs of old Levi's. Still, I do not consider myself an expert. Heck, nobody knows it all. Too much to know, and dealers - who know the most - aren't likely to help ye'. They're always on the look-out for a "steal," so they play it very close to the vest. Your vid's most educational, and free.

Levi's first used zip fly in 1954 on the 501, it was changed to button because of shrinkage issues.

Glad your liking them. The 55's are nice and boxy, are you shrinking them or keeping them rigid ?

Just got a pair of LVC 1955's off ebay. Reminds me of how real denim jeans used to be when I was a youth. Nice!
