I believe in mental illness, I've been diagnosed with a few but I really think that most people can control it if they put effort into it. And I mean any mean ANY mental illness is controllable, no matter how extreme it is. Even my sister who has severe OCD I can see that she'd be able to put a lid on some of it if she didn't use it as an excuse for bad behavior
An FMRI would be a much better tool for this. EEG is good for diagnosing epilepsy, not DID.
My friend's DID is not like this, he is "himself" at most times, and when someone else comes out it is under extreme stress, and the alter doesn't help, it just alienates people and got him evicted.
@deadpoetoftheyear I know someone who was recently diagnosed with DID, and she fits your friend's description. I doubt the validity of the diagnosis. I don't think my person has an alternate personality, just goes into altered states, and behaves differently. She also seems to have epilepsy, and forgets who she is when she is post-ectal. I really have trouble believing this thing. Maybe I'm wrong. Who knows?
This test was doneyears ago with actors using their imagnation to be different characters and people who claimed to have DID. The brainwave results were identical in that test.
@amy1w1 It was a long time ago. I read it in a Science Magazine. The study was done by a university in the States. Try googling. I do not remember who did it.
I think the problem is that an actor maintains the awareness that it is just a "role". Seems like DID is a problem with perceptions and awareness of reality.
@jpayne68177 Yes. It is probably some manifestation of schizophrenia. But I also think that some people convince themselves with the help of therapists. Remember all the people who were convinced they had been involved in satanic abuse back in the 90s. So many of them later filed lawsuits agaist their therapists. I think DID is like that.
@Imogen1885 No it's not. DID has more in common with PTSD than Schizophrenia, both etiologically and neurologically. DID and schizo are barely comparable.
@iraqidolphin Colin Ross is a nut job who made a name for himself in the early 90s testifying in cases of SRA and various daycare abuse stories that later proved to be nothing more than so-called therapists talking kids into saying things that never happned. I'm amazed the guy is not in jail.
@Imogen1885 I read that study. One problem: They weren't identical! The actor, the acted-alter, and the normal patient were all about the same, but teh real alter in the patient showed a different pattern that the actors couldn't mimic.
@BalmungSama0 I wonder if a study has ever been done to explain why the vast majority of people with DID are white women in their late twenties to mid forties who are relatively well educated. IF DID is real and not genetic then it would be spread evenly across the population.
Further, we would NOT expect it to be evenly distributed across the population. Most people with PTSD are women with less money than most. Having few friends doesn't help matters, either.
@Imogen1885 Most mental illnesses aren't evenly distributed across the population. And while I didn't find any racial information, I did find that women are 8-9 times more likely to develop it than men. Not too surprising, considering most people with it reported childhood abuse.
Second, a genetic component doesn't make it "not real". Unless you're saying schizophrenia isn't a real disorder (btw, that's not evenly distributed, either).
@BalmungSama0 Schizophrenia has a genetic component and a physical basis..brain chemistry. If you believe DID is real, then go for it. But I don't. The doctor had t ask her to let him know when a new alter was present because he did not know. How come out of all those alters not one of them wants to lose weight.
@Imogen1885 She was sitting still. How many cues would there be that she switched personalities? A slightly different way of looking around the room? Second, even if it WAS obvious, the doctr has to ask to confirm, otherwise people would pick apart his observations. "How do you KNOW that the alter was present during these readings? Did you ask?"
Second, THAT's your evidence? She's overweight? Wow, you're bloody brilliant.
@Imogen1885 Also, there is physiological evidence. They have PFC inhibition during the switch, smaller hippocampi (like combat vets with PTSD), smaller PFCs, among other things.
Also, how do you take into account the amnesia? Doctors are pretty good at spotting amnesia malingerers.
And what about the EEGs? Again, the study you mentioned SUPPORTED DID, because the actors couldn't match anything close to the alter patterns.
@BalmungSama0 I don't know what you read. The one I read said there was no difference at all between actors and pople claiming to have DID. NO difference in EEG results.
"EEG Coherence and Dissociative Idntity Disorder: Comparing EEG Coherenc in DID Hosts, Alters, Controls, and Acted Alters",
by Hopper, A., Ciorciari, J., Johnson, G., Spensley, J., Serejew, A., and Stough, C.
That's the paper I read. And what they said was that there was no difference between the patients, the actor controls, and the acted alters. THOSE were identicle. However, they found that the real alters from the patients had an EEG pattern that the actors could not match.
I'm not sure if my knowledge on this is correct... But I just took a uni psych class and we were taught that the main personality is unaware of the alters; however, the alters are fully aware of each other's existence. That's why I'm skeptical about this but then again, what I was taught could be incorrect LOL
Soo lets just say….. if one of her alters is a sexually driven maniac and a freak in the Sheets … (lets call her Brenda) and Brenda wants me to tie her up and act like I’m raping her. (as some people enjoy that sort of thing) and after I’ve tied her up and gagged her (like she asked me too) She then turns to her 7 year old boy alter (Adam). Am I now a sick piece of shit Pedophile? Is Adam now damaged as a 7 year old boy?
so if one of her personalities is very sexual driven and when i have sex with her, her 7 year old boy alter comes out...... Am i now a gay Pedofile?????
@fobkingdingaling people with DID arnt crazy...its how the mind copes with extreme trauma and you having sex with a child alter in my opinion would be no different then you raping her because most child alters cant consent to sexual things...so yea it would make you pretty fucked up.
Much of my past I can't recover. However, I guess "The Community" (alters) no more than I do!? Therapists seem to be told things that I don't remember. I do know, that sex is scarey to me, even though I am gay, and my 'ex' reported me doing things in the bedroom that I cannot recall! We had an old gigantic fuel furnace (that was converted from coal). It had a BIG door on it. One of the "boys" said he was locked in there. And, just a VERY Violent, Alcoholic father! It was chaotic time!!!
i highly recommend that people have an open mind and read a book called "The Minds of Billy Milligan" by Daniel Keyes. It's fascinating. :) It's a factual book about a man who lived in Ohio who had 25 different personalities. It shows the reader his life growing up and the abuse he took and also his life during his trial after he kidnapped and raped 3 women... I dont think anyone could read this book and still not believe in MPD or DID
No one has to prove I exist for me to know I am real. I'm an "alter", as people tend to put it. I don't call myself "alter", I'm a PERSON. I don't think ANY evidence, no matter how certain it shows I am a separate person, will ever quiet the skeptics. Quite honestly, I do not care. I am Jenn, I am not *body name*, and I will still be Jenn no matter what anybody says I am. If somebody doesn't respect me as a person, then I just ignore them and go about my life durring my share of the front time.
yes sir. You're correct about that. It'd be like getting dizzy and a person diagnosing themselves' with low blood sugar. Knowing you have that symptom you should seek out a doctor's care to begin to find out what's really going on with your body. The first person that discovered my "community" was a neurologist when I was 10. From there, I've been in therapy over half of my 50 yrs.! I realize, that "outsiders" are always uncomfortable with what they cannot believe and/or understand!!!
I have DID. It's interesting that as a boy a set of docs thought I "might be epileptic. While, another set thought I was NOT coz the E.E.G.S were different in the studies. Meantime, I heard my alters for almost all my life. Later, I was diagnosed with DID. By the way, when I was a child, it was NOT a psychiatrist who caught the fact I heard "voices"; It was a neurologist!
She's so happy she has 'solid evidence' to allow herself to continue playing around her 'personalities' with other people. Her only concern was that, because it is the only thing to enable or disable her.
If she really had all these personalities she would have gotten over the idea of it being fake or real a long time ago.
People with invisible neurological disabilities/illnesses suffer the same trauma of not being believed! The cruelty of not being believed is so painful. that it at times, it rivals the suffering caused by the disorder itself.
Her tears at having more proof that her condition is real only further legitimizes her claim that she does have this illness. The tears are part relief at having something she's needed so desperately, and part, a release of some of the pent up pain of not being believed.
@MissJessyeNorman Thank you for your enlighting words. It's true that sometimes the reactions of others after a traumatic effent is more damaging than and hindering the people to heal prolonging the need to survive, than the effents that caused this condition.
s it is true nd I also know the suffering of it, m ging through it from last 11 years nd 2day m enough old to understand it but when i was kid i never knew i used 2 thought it is unique thinking in me nd it ll bring success in my life, but it was way towards devastation...
@CowieMooCowxo87 It's easier to believe she is faking it, isn't it? It takes courage to consider it might be real ... But considering the reactions you 're not alone. Let's make a hurtfull comment instead of feeling the pain of empathy. Reality trumps fantasy in weirdness everytime. You'll see when you life long enough.
@Tijssink bringing up the fact that she's probably faking is not "hurtful" nor do I give a shit if it is. there are almost no ACTUAL cases of multiple personality disorder in the world, much less any people that have 15. she doesn't have multiple personality disorder, she's just batshit crazy or looking for attention.
@Tijssink I never said I didn't believe in it. I just said it's extremely rare and most people ARE faking, which is true whether you like it or not. sorry, I'm just not into coddling people that are probably just batshit crazy and/or looking for attention.
and no, not really because I don't really have anything that could be considered "fakeable" for lack of a better word. if somebody told me I was faking something and I knew I wasn't, I simply wouldn't give a shit.
@CowieMooCowxo87 It's just as rare as people with a stutter 1 out of 100. When you say most people are faking, do you mean most people in general? Because people who are faking DID are more rare (usally trying to get out of a criminal penalty) than people with DID. I know some and very few of their friends/family/co-workers know they have DID. They try to live normal lives as well as possible avoiding special attention. They don't want coddling, just acception this exists.
If you believe that the human mind is a product of the human brain, then MPD/DID is impossible because the brains of those who say they have MDP/DID are no different from those of the general population.
Further, it took 4 billion years to evolve one self aware animal, and now we can have a dozen self awarenesses in the SAME animal?
It takes courage to say that when an idea is not supported by the science, its not true, no matter interesting or popular the idea might be.
1. "Science changes everyday as new discoveries occur"
2. DID is a survival technique which by its nature requires it to stay hidden to survive.
3. You are an expert on the brain? The brain doesn't change because of memory or reactions to trauma. Amnesia doesn't change the brain. DID doesn't change the brain it changes the boundaries of memory and behavior to protect the mind as a whole.
Seeking attention is the ignorant mind's explanation for behavior it does not understand.
1. True, so, when we get neuropsych info that supports DID we can re-examine the issue. Till then, DID/MPD does not jibe with the rest of the science.
2. That is circular reasoning; "we can't see it because its hiding." No, we can't see it, "because it isn't there."
3. Yes, I am an expert. I've been a clinician, taught psych, and I work for my state's DMH. I would like you to cite any source that indicates DID/MPD changes neural organization.
@Waltham1892 So, what do you believe about repressed memories or amnesia? How about PTSD? Do you believe in that? All of those are part of being DID.
By your criteria all mental illnesses (except bi-polar and schizophrenia) do not exist.I feel sorry for anyone you treated since they obviously were all just seeking attention in your estimation.
You obviously don't understand much about abnormal psych.
PTSD is not part of MDP/DID. They are distinct diagnosis and the neurology and psychology of PTSD is well validated. This is also true of Schizophrenia and Bi-Polar Disorder.
MPD/DID has never been validated, nor can it be.
As for repression, it is a Freudian concept that, like most Freudian concepts, can not be proven experimentally.
If it can not be proven experimentally, it is not a scientifically valid concept.
@Waltham1892 PTSD and DID are both on the dissociation spectrum. Anyone with DID also has PTSD. You say that PTSD is well validated. Based on what? What is the experimental proof of PTSD?
The diagnosis of PTSD is based on the DSM the same as DID. Even Bi-Polar disorder is primarily subject to the criteria in the DSM.
Just because two disorders are on the same spectrum does not mean that one disorder includes the other. Both Schizophrenia and Schizoid Personality disorder are considered Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders, but the diagnostic criteria for both mutually exclusive.
PTSD has been validated by Functional MRI's and PET scanning. You can also see elevated levels of corticosteroids and adrenal response.
Maybe not offering an opinion on what you don't understand would be a good option for you?
@Waltham1892 Believing it's not there until it's proven is just plain playing dummy. You are smarter than that. Science brings us sofar. And I'v seen brainimages where the brain with each different personality light up far more than that of the actor imposing another person. But unlucky for you, you wouldn't believe that either. Probaly saying it was a bad actor. For going ahead in science one should first take ones personal blinkers off and be open for what seems impossible.
@Waltham1892 Ad 2 Remember Pasteur who claimed that little animals caused illness? And everybody laughed at him for these unseen microbe surely weren't there cause they couldn't see them? Believing something isn't there because you can't see the prove others do see is ignorance.
@Waltham1892 As a researcher you can't claim something doesn't exist because science hasn't been able to prove it satisfactory for everybody yet. Than you take science as a new religion. A woman isn't pregnant until the doctor says so. I chose to respect peoples experiences above science who always comes behind.
As a teacher you should accept experience from people. Science hasn't been able to proof love. Just chemical attraction. I hope you have experienced love is more than that.
"Hasn't been able to prove it satisfactory for everyone yet."
Rather a strange standard for proof.
Has science proven MPD/DID does not exist. Yes, it has. Is that proof false because some refuse to believe it; no. A mistaken and unfounded belief does not confound a proof.
And, as a Teacher, I teach the science but I also teach to reason, question, and to conduct critical analysis.
MPD/DID does not survive critical analysis because its a clinical fad thats outlived itself.
@Waltham1892 I don't know where you get the information that science has proven MPD/DID doesn't exist. There are many people diagnosed with MPD. Are those therapists all blindsighted by people who didn't even know and don't want to have DID? And why don't you react on my comment about Pasteur?
When you write teacher with a capital I start wondering . . . typo? German? angry youg man? You surely have never met people with DID. And if you did they wouldn't tell you they have DID.
As William James pointed out, there can be nothing in the mind which is not supported by the brain.
The brain is a massively interconnect system so there is no "space" for someone to have 16 of what everyone else has 1 of. It is also neurologically impossible to have one executive authority that manages awareness and a second that "selects" which alter to present.
Its time to accept the science and leave the new age fantasies to the shamans.
As for your comment about Pasteur, you clearly do not understand how science works.
In science, something does not to exist until its proven to exists, not that it exists until it is disproved.
MPD/DID goes against everything we know of psychology and neurology and is based on Freud's earliest theory, which he discarded in 1919.
And yes, I've met about a dozen people who said they have MPD. Ignore the alters and they go away. All you are left with is an Axis II, cluster B disorder.
@Waltham1892 No I don't believe the human mind is a product of the human brain. As I don't believe a diver is the product of the wetsuit he's wearing.
Thinking other animals are not aware of itself is a lack of wachting National Geographic.
You think it takes courage to say etc? Than you truly have had a carefree live. It takes courages what this lady did, knowing all the disbelieve, and hatred reactings it will give. Because people don't want to believe it's caused by childmolestation.
@Waltham1892 I cant theres no escape! AW MY GAWD, THAT GIRL HAS NO FACE!!! OH NO, NO, NO, THATS NOT AN ALIEN, IT CANT BE, AND...OH GOD, PLEASE GOD, NO, ITS JUSTIN BIEBER, IM DOOMED!!! RUN BROTHA, YOU CAN FIND THE EXIT, RUN!!!
@missyworx I didn't see where she predicted it, but depending how far along with therapy one is, it might be possible for the personalities to talk to and know about each other. After all, therapy is to merge them and they can't merge if the original doesn't know about the others. If I remember this show right, she was pretty far along to the point where she was talking with some of them. I don't remember if she had a journal or anything, though.
For an EEG test you are supposed to have your eyes closed, and not talk, and not even move the eyes. Because all of that causes interference, which shows up on the EEG and can be misinterpreted as signal coming from the brain when in reality it is coming from the scalp, facial and eye muscles. The fact that she is behaving differently with each personality such as moving the eyes differently could account for these differences.
The woman in this video has DID. It's pretty obvious to those of us who have it too and have recovered some. Her size is a big sign. Weight gain is a protective mechanism. Even in recovery ppl with DID fear being told we are frauds because often times our cries for help as kids were ignored, discounted. The false memory syndrome foundation was founded by an admitted pedophile - Ralph Underwager. DID happens because of abuse and trauma and it is a way to survive not a disorder.
1: The disorder she 'has' is DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) or in other words a split personality.
2: Schizophrenia of ANY kind is not split personality. It's a common misconception.
3: People who have DID usually have no idea they have it and can not control it unless heavily medicated.
4: A person with this bad of a case would NOT even know the names of her other personalities (because they do not talk to each other) let alone control which one comes out at any desired time.

An FMRI would be a much better tool for this. EEG is good for diagnosing epilepsy, not DID.
My friend's DID is not like this, he is "himself" at most times, and when someone else comes out it is under extreme stress, and the alter doesn't help, it just alienates people and got him evicted.
Call for attention I think not.
deadpoetoftheyear 1 month ago
@deadpoetoftheyear I know someone who was recently diagnosed with DID, and she fits your friend's description. I doubt the validity of the diagnosis. I don't think my person has an alternate personality, just goes into altered states, and behaves differently. She also seems to have epilepsy, and forgets who she is when she is post-ectal. I really have trouble believing this thing. Maybe I'm wrong. Who knows?

This test was doneyears ago with actors using their imagnation to be different characters and people who claimed to have DID. The brainwave results were identical in that test.

amy1w1 1 month ago
@amy1w1 It was a long time ago. I read it in a Science Magazine. The study was done by a university in the States. Try googling. I do not remember who did it.
Imogen1885 1 month ago
@Imogen1885
I think the problem is that an actor maintains the awareness that it is just a "role". Seems like DID is a problem with perceptions and awareness of reality.
jpayne68177 1 month ago
@jpayne68177 Yes. It is probably some manifestation of schizophrenia. But I also think that some people convince themselves with the help of therapists. Remember all the people who were convinced they had been involved in satanic abuse back in the 90s. So many of them later filed lawsuits agaist their therapists. I think DID is like that.
Imogen1885 1 month ago
@Imogen1885 No it's not. DID has more in common with PTSD than Schizophrenia, both etiologically and neurologically. DID and schizo are barely comparable.

@iraqidolphin Colin Ross is a nut job who made a name for himself in the early 90s testifying in cases of SRA and various daycare abuse stories that later proved to be nothing more than so-called therapists talking kids into saying things that never happned. I'm amazed the guy is not in jail.

@Imogen1885 SO WHAT? THIS WORLD ID FILLED WITH UNDERSCOVERD ILLNESSES....SHE MIGHT NOT BE LYING....
stuff5514 3 weeks ago
@Imogen1885 I read that study. One problem: They weren't identical! The actor, the acted-alter, and the normal patient were all about the same, but teh real alter in the patient showed a different pattern that the actors couldn't mimic.
BalmungSama0 4 days ago
@BalmungSama0 I wonder if a study has ever been done to explain why the vast majority of people with DID are white women in their late twenties to mid forties who are relatively well educated. IF DID is real and not genetic then it would be spread evenly across the population.
Imogen1885 4 days ago
@Imogen1885 That's not true at all.
Further, we would NOT expect it to be evenly distributed across the population. Most people with PTSD are women with less money than most. Having few friends doesn't help matters, either.
BalmungSama0 4 days ago
@Imogen1885 Most mental illnesses aren't evenly distributed across the population. And while I didn't find any racial information, I did find that women are 8-9 times more likely to develop it than men. Not too surprising, considering most people with it reported childhood abuse.
Second, a genetic component doesn't make it "not real". Unless you're saying schizophrenia isn't a real disorder (btw, that's not evenly distributed, either).
BalmungSama0 4 days ago
@BalmungSama0 Schizophrenia has a genetic component and a physical basis..brain chemistry. If you believe DID is real, then go for it. But I don't. The doctor had t ask her to let him know when a new alter was present because he did not know. How come out of all those alters not one of them wants to lose weight.
Imogen1885 4 days ago
@Imogen1885 She was sitting still. How many cues would there be that she switched personalities? A slightly different way of looking around the room? Second, even if it WAS obvious, the doctr has to ask to confirm, otherwise people would pick apart his observations. "How do you KNOW that the alter was present during these readings? Did you ask?"
Second, THAT's your evidence? She's overweight? Wow, you're bloody brilliant.
BalmungSama0 4 days ago
@Imogen1885 Also, there is physiological evidence. They have PFC inhibition during the switch, smaller hippocampi (like combat vets with PTSD), smaller PFCs, among other things.
Also, how do you take into account the amnesia? Doctors are pretty good at spotting amnesia malingerers.
And what about the EEGs? Again, the study you mentioned SUPPORTED DID, because the actors couldn't match anything close to the alter patterns.
BalmungSama0 4 days ago
@BalmungSama0 I don't know what you read. The one I read said there was no difference at all between actors and pople claiming to have DID. NO difference in EEG results.
Imogen1885 4 days ago

That's the paper I read. And what they said was that there was no difference between the patients, the actor controls, and the acted alters. THOSE were identicle. However, they found that the real alters from the patients had an EEG pattern that the actors could not match.

CowieMooCowxo87 2 months ago
@CowieMooCowxo87 It's just as rare as people with a stutter 1 out of 100. When you say most people are faking, do you mean most people in general? Because people who are faking DID are more rare (usally trying to get out of a criminal penalty) than people with DID. I know some and very few of their friends/family/co-workers know they have DID. They try to live normal lives as well as possible avoiding special attention. They don't want coddling, just acception this exists.
Tijssink 2 months ago
@Tijssink
Waltham1892 2 months ago
@Waltham1892
1958KayDee 2 months ago
Believing absent prove is ignorance.
Waltham1892 2 months ago
@Waltham1892 So, what do you believe about repressed memories or amnesia? How about PTSD? Do you believe in that? All of those are part of being DID.
By your criteria all mental illnesses (except bi-polar and schizophrenia) do not exist.I feel sorry for anyone you treated since they obviously were all just seeking attention in your estimation.
1958KayDee 2 months ago
You obviously don't understand much about abnormal psych.
PTSD is not part of MDP/DID. They are distinct diagnosis and the neurology and psychology of PTSD is well validated. This is also true of Schizophrenia and Bi-Polar Disorder.
MPD/DID has never been validated, nor can it be.
As for repression, it is a Freudian concept that, like most Freudian concepts, can not be proven experimentally.
If it can not be proven experimentally, it is not a scientifically valid concept.
Waltham1892 2 months ago
@Waltham1892 PTSD and DID are both on the dissociation spectrum. Anyone with DID also has PTSD. You say that PTSD is well validated. Based on what? What is the experimental proof of PTSD?
The diagnosis of PTSD is based on the DSM the same as DID. Even Bi-Polar disorder is primarily subject to the criteria in the DSM.
1958KayDee 2 months ago
Just because two disorders are on the same spectrum does not mean that one disorder includes the other. Both Schizophrenia and Schizoid Personality disorder are considered Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders, but the diagnostic criteria for both mutually exclusive.
PTSD has been validated by Functional MRI's and PET scanning. You can also see elevated levels of corticosteroids and adrenal response.
Maybe not offering an opinion on what you don't understand would be a good option for you?
Waltham1892 2 months ago
@Waltham1892 Believing it's not there until it's proven is just plain playing dummy. You are smarter than that. Science brings us sofar. And I'v seen brainimages where the brain with each different personality light up far more than that of the actor imposing another person. But unlucky for you, you wouldn't believe that either. Probaly saying it was a bad actor. For going ahead in science one should first take ones personal blinkers off and be open for what seems impossible.
Tijssink 2 months ago
@Waltham1892 Ad 2 Remember Pasteur who claimed that little animals caused illness? And everybody laughed at him for these unseen microbe surely weren't there cause they couldn't see them? Believing something isn't there because you can't see the prove others do see is ignorance.
Tijssink 2 months ago
@Tijssink
No, believing in what you can not prove is not science; it is religion.
I'm a teacher, treater, and researcher. I am not a priest.
If you want to believe in what can not be proven then I'm sure there is some faith, cult, or creed that will have you.
Science, however, won't.
Waltham1892 2 months ago
@Waltham1892 As a researcher you can't claim something doesn't exist because science hasn't been able to prove it satisfactory for everybody yet. Than you take science as a new religion. A woman isn't pregnant until the doctor says so. I chose to respect peoples experiences above science who always comes behind.
As a teacher you should accept experience from people. Science hasn't been able to proof love. Just chemical attraction. I hope you have experienced love is more than that.
Tijssink 2 months ago
"Hasn't been able to prove it satisfactory for everyone yet."
Rather a strange standard for proof.
Has science proven MPD/DID does not exist. Yes, it has. Is that proof false because some refuse to believe it; no. A mistaken and unfounded belief does not confound a proof.
And, as a Teacher, I teach the science but I also teach to reason, question, and to conduct critical analysis.
MPD/DID does not survive critical analysis because its a clinical fad thats outlived itself.
Waltham1892 2 months ago
@Waltham1892 I don't know where you get the information that science has proven MPD/DID doesn't exist. There are many people diagnosed with MPD. Are those therapists all blindsighted by people who didn't even know and don't want to have DID? And why don't you react on my comment about Pasteur?
When you write teacher with a capital I start wondering . . . typo? German? angry youg man? You surely have never met people with DID. And if you did they wouldn't tell you they have DID.
Tijssink 2 months ago
As William James pointed out, there can be nothing in the mind which is not supported by the brain.
The brain is a massively interconnect system so there is no "space" for someone to have 16 of what everyone else has 1 of. It is also neurologically impossible to have one executive authority that manages awareness and a second that "selects" which alter to present.
Its time to accept the science and leave the new age fantasies to the shamans.
Waltham1892 2 months ago

Waltham1892 2 months ago
As for your comment about Pasteur, you clearly do not understand how science works.
In science, something does not to exist until its proven to exists, not that it exists until it is disproved.
MPD/DID goes against everything we know of psychology and neurology and is based on Freud's earliest theory, which he discarded in 1919.
And yes, I've met about a dozen people who said they have MPD. Ignore the alters and they go away. All you are left with is an Axis II, cluster B disorder.
Waltham1892 2 months ago
Now, my question to you is this.
From the perspective of Cognitive or Neurophysiology, explain to me how MPD/DID works.
Please be specific.
Where are the alters, where is the second executive authority, how do the alters switch, how do you account for the amnesia.
Have at it, you answer those questions and there is a Nobel in it for you.
Waltham1892 2 months ago
@Waltham1892 No I don't believe the human mind is a product of the human brain. As I don't believe a diver is the product of the wetsuit he's wearing.
Thinking other animals are not aware of itself is a lack of wachting National Geographic.
You think it takes courage to say etc? Than you truly have had a carefree live. It takes courages what this lady did, knowing all the disbelieve, and hatred reactings it will give. Because people don't want to believe it's caused by childmolestation.

well this is complete nonsense.

DID happens because of abuse and trauma and it is a way to survive not a disorder.
beautifulmind546 6 months ago 3
1: The disorder she 'has' is DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) or in other words a split personality.
2: Schizophrenia of ANY kind is not split personality. It's a common misconception.
3: People who have DID usually have no idea they have it and can not control it unless heavily medicated.
4: A person with this bad of a case would NOT even know the names of her other personalities (because they do not talk to each other) let alone control which one comes out at any desired time.
Just saying.
