Bad thing about JDAMs is their failure rate. Bad coordinates, bad guidance, bad tailfins, bad input, bad read, etc... Lots of ways to blow yourself to shit. But having said that and knowing about the many many men killed by their own airstrikes, there are countless more good strikes than bad. Thumbs up for our British brothers! Fookin' L Eat dat! JDAM's are awesome ! and cheap. I'ts a dumb bomb with a smart GPS guidance kit. It's a fire and forget weapon you only need the right coordinates. GPS guided bombs are good, you can drop alot at the same time, dont have to stay = much safer and it's all weatherproof. In the Iraq war laser guided bombs wasnt always usable because the sandstorms. Laser guided weapons has benefits to. JDAM is good for non or slow moving targets but not for fast moving targets. Thats why theres a laser guided JDAM.

@PrinzEugn GBU-12 is laser guided. It's not a JDAM. The GBU-31, 32, 35, 38 & 54 are JDAMS. & some JDAMS are laser guided with GPS, like the GBU-38. The (E)GBU-12, is GPS/INS guided as well as laser guided (The E stands for Enhanced). It's still not considered a JDAM though..

Yes, they can be. That is a laser designator set up in this video. While it was not used to guide in this particular bomb, it could have been with similar results.

IF the Iraqi soldier came in, then the American aimed at the Iraqi soldier with his gun then there would be no problem in my eyes for that Iraqi to blow the brains out of the American. Providing ofcourse that the American knew that the Iraqis were there.
ANYONE using a weapon against british troops out there is a valid target it's that simple. If they are going to shoot at us - no matter what they believe, then I think that gives us the right to shoot back.

IT doesn't matter. If you were that Soldier, (bearing in mind you're just doing what you are ordered) and someone started shooting at you, what would you do? shoot back? or think, "No they are probably a civilian." when there is a high possibility that the Taliban are hiding in that house.

it was an A-10 that dropped this jdam, if you go back through the comments the pilot has left a few comments to an arsehole who made some crappy comments. there is also another vid of this from the cockpit. i think the pilots name was Nikkita??? respect to all the UK and US troops who have been there since day 1 b4 all the others decided to send a few troops..

Yes, they can be. That is a laser designator set up in this video. While it was not used to guide in this particular bomb, it could have been with similar results.

JDAM's are GPS guided. Laser guided bombs are laser guided. This is a GBU-12 laser guided bomb. The title of the video is wrong.

They can setup the bombs for both, so that if the target is clear the pilot can use laser guidance, which is more accurate.
