I love Lee Hammond - hate her grid technique. It's a crutch that keeps you from training your eye. I've learned so much from her books though - and the tortillon and stomp are my new best friends!
@thegirlwiththehair1 Actually, the rigid line drawings can be technically difficult have discouraged many a budding artist to give up entirely. I think it's a personal preference but nobody should give up because art is fun and very therapeutic for stress.
@jjstudios100 ruh-roh. Better let Leonardo DaVinci and Edgar Degas know this, they used them to break up a mass into shapes and you can even find the samples of it if you're diligent enough. Bad Eddie!
@OriginalDrJenn what i meant was using grids to draw a picture every time you draw some thing. If you do use it every time you draw you will rely on the grid and wont be able to draw with out it
Lee, I am so curious what pencil you are using, because to me it looks like a caran d'ache... At least they carry this type of metallic holder for leads. Am I right?
@HappyQuilling These are .5 mm 2b leads into any mechanical pencil you want to buy from anywhere you want to buy it. The standard lead holder you're referring to is 2mm leads and 2mm holder. You can use both if you like when using a good lead pointer but she's teaching the .5mm. i, myself, mix them based on subject.
@narcovice She does show you these things on the full length videos on artistsnetwork.tv These samples aren't published by Lee, if you look on the ID you'll see that they're posted by artistsnetwork.tv. I have seen both of those full-length videos on the site I mentioned and it's much more explanatory.
Yes, she is amazing and has such a down to earth way of teaching. I love her teaching methods, she makes one feel even a beginner can learn to draw or paint beautiful subjects.
i use her techniques in my drawings

it's funny how what you call "cartoony" is what everyone else who can't draw would call beautiful. I thought that first rose was very nice as it was.
