its easily a curse... jim leroy was part of master of disasters (jimmy franklin, bobby younkin) he died doing the same stunt as them with skip stewart.... now kyle and his wife.....
Aerobatics and Aerostunts seem like such a waste of talent. The risk is so high and entertainment value only negligible. These stunts are for the non flying public, certainly not pilots. Pilots of any experience cringe at such stunts. I think most pilots would prefer to see some good STOL, Cross Wind, and Bush Piloting.
Rest in peace Amanda you will be missed. Kyle my family's hearts hurt for you. I hope you find the strength & passion to carry on and take to the skies again. We all wish you the best and hope to see your awesome flying skills again one day.
Media got it all wrong. The engine simply quit... there was no fire until after impact and that was caused by the smoke oil generator, that thing which produces the white contrails. It works by spraying oil on the engine exhaust; fine in the air, but causes fire on the ground. She died in the burn unit. Husband survived after some skin grafts. He couldn't maneuver the plane until she was seated... by then the ground was there.
No cause for the engine failure was ever discovered.
@mnpd007 You got it wrong, watch this - See the video with the title "Air Fiesta 2011 3/12/11 plane accident." It clearly shows FIRE coming out of the bottom of the plane.
God Speed Amanda... I knew both of your Fathers my prayers are with you and your family. Take heart Kyle Gods by your side as he guides his children to his heavenly peace.
this is not so sad to me, more like surprising. nobody told to this kids that they can die horribly when doing this? i guess they didnt like it here that much.. have respect to others' life paths as they are just gaining experience same as you do
@MrFADavis : That is a kind sentiment. I am sure even non-believers can feel how great the loss of Amanda is for her family and friends. I am only related to her by a common passion for aviation, yet I feel quite sad about this. My thoughts go to her family and I hope Amanda is "flying with angels". Kyle, you have my sincerest wishes that you find the strength to go on living, and someday, enjoy your life again.
Amanda i already miss you so much and i would do anything for this to have not happened to you. I love you hun and hopefully we can see eachother again someday. RIP, I'll see you at your funeral next week. Hang in there Kyle. Love always, Ashley
@PhillipMcLoins Putting Galileo under house arrest until his death for going against the church even though he had scientific fact to back up his claims. Stem cell research is another. There are many more throughout history but I don't want to have a comment war.
@Looorney I understand that, I was really wanting to see your basis for such a comment; some have no substance and that is really what gets me. It is your right, if you live in the US, to not believe, but it is an inalienable right to believe and worship; believers of any religious entity are the protected group and not atheists, yet you are entitled to your opinion nonetheless. Your example is far from Christianity, I do not feel that such behavior is conducive to believing, its anything but.
@PhillipMcLoins Furthermore, our country was founded on the basis to have have freedom of, no from, religion...which is what the founding fathers of the US wanted and gave US. They left a country that was founded and ruled on false Christian doctrine. I do not believe that Christianity should be intertwined within a government, and I do not believe that there is any scripture in Christianity that suggests so. I believe that people have overcome this in US...but it happens elsewhere.
God bless the Younkin and Franklin families in their loss today! May they always see Amanda in the skies looking down on them with a smile! For she is where she will always be happiest.
@ mattbna I can relate to the people who thought it was part of the act. For me I thought the airshow crash at willow grove in 2000 was part of the act and I thought it was some pyrotechnics, but now at 15 i clearly know now that it was a fatal accident. It was my first airshow back then, and for those people, it was probably their first. Also, your not a moron, I thought at binghampton, the pilots crashed when they went into the ravine, but I was wrong.
Did I really "make life difficult" for people by pointing out something that anyone involved in aviation of any kind already knew (the fact that this was clearly not a "fake" crash) - and this makes me a moron and is a reason for me to grow up? This coming from a 22-year-old? Ok... It's your story - you tell it however you like.
@mattbna Don't worry. You are covered. Best not let the unwise taint your wisdom. People like that have no idea. Sometime in life, they will have something happen , and be forced to remember their behavior here.
@mattbna Especially when those of us in the air show crew were running around lost in the sauce trying to figure out what was going on. We are in Brownsville though so nothing surprises me.
@mattbna You might want to get yourself informed. Kyle was known for strange fying acts such as drunk flying etc. Faking a accident is not that far fetched. Its morons like YOU that make assumptions and make life difficult for people. Grow up.
It always comes back and bites you in the arse. not worth it...
