What a brilliant rendition!!.. Thank you for uploading this wonderful song. I am a big fan of KJY in Tamil and Hindi but I think this is probably his best song by far. Of course Raveendran matched Yesudas but in the end it was just divine carnatic bliss by KJY.

I am pretty sure it's Malayalam (full) classical. :) If you want movie songs similar to this, try old Malayalam movies. I am pretty sure it was M.G. Sreekumar and Yesudas who sang the song. I'll try to post as soon as I find more videos with this kind of music. Thank you for the comment. :)

Sorry buddy this immortal classic was rendered by KJ YEsudas and Raveendran maashu, the late music director of this movie. This song is a competition between carnatic by yesudas and hindusthani style by raveendran maashu..In the end Mohanlal wins by using the Ultimate "ASURATHAALAM" where every syllable out of the larynx is at a higher pitch than the previous syllable. Yesudas has entered the guinness book as the only singer who can do Asurathaalam in the world today

I saw it on tv, there was an NRI episode on asianet that showed KJY walking in a hospital ward with critically ill patients and he had seemingly come on their request to meet the man whose songs had given them so much during their stay in the hospital. 2 of those were patients who woke up from comas it seems. KJY didn't know about it until the request was made. He was referred to them by some musical bigwigs of Europe.Researchers in Music. It's been 5 years at least since the program aired

ok see when a normal singer tries to sing in asurathaalam that is every syllable at a higher pitch than the previous one, their voice will break tempo and lose the tempo. They say in hindu mythology that asurathaalam was possible only for the gandharvas with which they could calm down a whole army of invading asuras or demons.
