After a decade like The 60's, I can see why a tune like this would be number one on The Billboard Pop Charts. @selaroma1 Did you know when this song came out, that most of the radio stations wouldn't play it? Not because it was bad or anything like that, but because the song didn't fit Ray Stevens' genre of goof-ball tunes. They figured it wouldn't have a chance. But as you noted, it ended up becoming the best-recognized and enduring song of his quite long career.

We went on a trip with our school to Italy and Switzerland around the time this was released. Whenever I hear it it takes me right back to that time. Ray became known for novelty material soon after this but just listen to his singing voice, he has it all - a strong and sure quality, excellent timbre and vibrato - he's as good as any of the singers from 'our' era. I wish he'd done more non-novelty cos I think he has the class.

The words to this song have often made me wonder. From the radio in the seventies it was a happy and encouraging few minutes. Even if you might not feel that everything and everybody really IS beautiful, you are challenged to think or feel "outside the box" in a positive direction. It's easy to become negative, but I'm better off when I realize that I can change that attitude and direction. Ray Stevens is a fine entertainer with a positive happy attitude.

That is indeed Ray Stevens. This video is from 1970 as I believe it was produced for Steven's summer 1970 TV show. "Everything Is Beautiful" was released in 1970 also. The single was the theme song for his TV show, hit #1 on both the pop and Adult-Contemporary charts, won a Grammy Award, and marked his first time in the Top 40 on the country charts, peaking at #39. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. BTW I know Ray personally...that is Ray.
