I am now 60 and only just read Pride and prejudice and seen this film, there is so much going on I must watch it again for the 9th time. Everything and everone is so perfect for the role it should have been made 8hrs long. I think the ensymes released during a heart attack have helped my femine side shine........ thats my excuse ! fantastic
I like this scene very much, but it pains me. What's going on is this. Elizabeth, despite her dislike of Darcy, is sexually attracted and almost is drawn into a kiss. All very realistic and understandable. But where does that leave you if you are not that sexually attractive? Its saying that sexual attractiveness is what counts. What would happen if you were not as attractive as Keira or Mathew? This is why it pains me, realistic though it is.
Une des mes scènes préférés, le moment ou ils s'embrassent presque ahlalala Magnifiiique ! Ce film est tout simplement Subliiime, I want Mr Darcy !! Il est tellement sublime !
I LOVE the moment, when after all this argueing they both realize the attraction they feel for each other. It makes me take a real deep breath when he moves towards her only to step back in the next moment. It's frustrating!
watch the whole movie..i've seen the version where colin firth was mr. darcy...but he's no match to matthew mcfayden as mr. darcy..but nevertheless colin firth is a very good actor :)
oh my god!! I love this scene, i loved the book, and this whole movie.. and the music at the begining of the movie, uhhh breathtaking! and keira is so gorgeus!
i agree with you...but she´s very pride, in this moment she doesn´t understand her feelings. Probably she´s has already in love with him, but she doesn´t know yet.
This is my fav scene of the movie, give us all the climax of it! The book is wonderful. The movie it's perfect.
I can't breathe during this scene, and I always hate Elizabeth for a few moments afterwords, because although I understand her motives for rejecting him, I couldn't do the same. He's beautiful.
Matthew mcfadyen has SOO much passion in this scene.. SOO much better then the BBC version. especially the bit where he leans in and says "so this is your opinion of me..."... OH GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!
i kind of hate the woman who plays Liz in this 1995 version. Keira Knightley IS Elizabeth freakin' Bennets! She is PERFECT!!! loved the 2005 version, it made me pick up the book (tried reading it last year at 13, and failed miserably). i love this soundtrack!!!
this was an excellent adaptation, this is by far my favorite movie, but they might have exaggerate some of the love scenes compared to the book , but I think they did well because it would have been really predictable
It's good, but not brilliant. And Firth is just such an amazing Darcy. Plus they are speaking in a strange kind of modern-1800's English mix that's kind of offputting.
i totally agree... some of the most important sentences in this proposal were not emphasized.. i somehow feel that he said it too fast, but as for kiera, she did very well!
They are like robots! its like they are going through their lines, or rehearsing, no feeling behind those words! terrible acting! I wouldn't even call this movie pride and prejudice, it has nothing in common with the book. The series is so much better
I disagree, i love this scene from the film and believe that there acting was very well done. But i do equally enjoy the series. We are all entitled to our own opinion of course.
I also forgot to add that I have also read the book several times and think that for a film adaptation and the length in which they had to fit so much in, they did very well.
I`m sorry but I can´t agree with you, although I respect your opinion. I dinn´t watch the series but this scene was the most important scene in this movie. I thought Matthew and Keira were perfects...like in the book, Mr. Darcy arrogant and pround of himself and Elizabeth prejudicing him.
By the way we can´t forget the chemistry between them... they make it clear in this scene.
i love this scene! the faults of both come out here! Darcy is inevitably proud, proposing by telling how hes going against his better judgements and watnot. And Keira for being prejudice in thinking elavating facts about Darcy like how he is trying to get Hane away from his friend. He is, yet only in the duty of a friend... which is quite different still... she just elavates it. THis is scene is one of the most important and well done :D
this is my favorite scene of the movie, give us all the climax of it! I'm reading the book right now and I can't wait till I read this part. It's an exciting book! The movie it's perfect. ;D
he definitely looks as if he were about to kiss her. I love all 6feet and three inches of Mr.darcy. "there's something pleasant about his mouth when he speaks" Best movie ever.
I totally agree with you, phantom. They could not have picked a better actor :). Makes me wonder how Elizabeth could still turn him down at the sight of such vulnerability!
I know! Even though he was a jerk the way he proposed to her in that scene, I was still mad at her for turning him down like that. Haha, that has to mean something
i love this movie and this scene especially.i love the actors and the characters.something about the romance between darcy and elizabeth just does something to me.
I love this scene. Very well acted. This version is very interesting since in the book they didn't almost kiss. It's interesting to see a different and more passionate version.
this is probably one of the best scenes, keira and matthew have so much more chemistry than colin firth and Jennifer ehle. i agree its very different and passionate, but i think that in the context of her time, janes original text probably seemed very passionate too.
I always find it slightly strange that in those days, people courted for pretty short periods of time before they got married, yet the marriages were rarely ever ended, except by death. And nowadays, most people date for years before getting married, and still half the marriages in the US end in divorce.
God, do I love this scene. I think this is my favorite scene in the whole movie. Such strong performances from both...just overflowing with fabulous chemistry...and Mr. Darcy looks beautiful in the rain :D
I can't breathe during this scene, and I always hate Elizabeth for a few moments afterwords, because although I understand her motives for rejecting him, I couldn't do the same. He's beautiful.
this scene is a superb one.. i like the way Darcy holds on to his pride.. doesnt deny what he did.. that ultimately made him write the letter to 'clear' himself of the first impressions Lizzy had of him... no wonder this book's first title is First Impressions.. haha.. love this... does anyone know where i can get the full copy?
I am a straight male. I consider myself to be quite "macho"(sorry if that makes you ladies cringe)But this scene I love. My girlfriend is pissed at me because I love this movie so much..I assume it is because Jane Austen was meant to be a female secret?! "Mr Wickam." hahaha I love it. You can FEEL the tension between them. ahhh fuck the sexes being equal. Love meant so much more when there was there was an actual divide between the sexes. Why is our society trying so hard to kill romance.
I love this scene! When I first saw this movie, I was shocked when Darcy told Lizzie he loved her. And is he really about to kiss her at 3:45-3:48? I never noticed that.
"My sister hardly shows her true feelings to me." Awesome bit of writing for the screenplay. In the book that sentiment was buried late in the book when Darcy says that he closely observed Jane when he came calling with Bingley. That means Darcy quite possibly threw his friend back into the clutches of a gold-digger solely to win Lizzy--until he "observed Jane closely" and knew her feelings were real.
amanda grange is the author of "mr darcy's diary". it is really good and the whole time i imagened these actors as i was reading the book. there is a really funny part in the book btwn col fitzwilliam and darcy were his cousin calls darcy a blockhead! read it!! i recommend it highly!
Thanks for the info.Have you read Darcy's Daughters?I have that also but never started it. Maybe we will have alot of cold stormy snow days and I can get some reading done.lol
no, i haven't read "mr. darcy's daughters" because i read in a review that mr darcy and lizzy are not in the book. let me know if it's good and maybe i'll give it a chance. i just bought "mr darcy presents his bride" i read the review and they say it's good. i'll let you know!
"Mr Darcy's Diary is an amazing book!! it captures the characters amazingly!!! amanda grange is truly talented!!! everyone that is a fan of P&P must read it!!
lol i love this scene its my scene in the entire movie. i actually find it funny that theyre yelling at each other. mr.darcy is a little stalkerish in this scene...
Good point, I wondered that myself. His reasons for objecting to Jane/Bingley pairing could very well apply to himself and Elizabeth. The way I see it, he fancied Elizabeth from the moment he laid eyes upon her at the assembly and his feelings grew and grew with each encounter with her, until he was so tormented that he had no choice but to confront her and propose. Yes, fools in love indeed!
3:43/4 ish he has a kicked puppy face : (

"My sister hardly shows her true feelings to me." Awesome bit of writing for the screenplay. In the book that sentiment was buried late in the book when Darcy says that he closely observed Jane when he came calling with Bingley. That means Darcy quite possibly threw his friend back into the clutches of a gold-digger solely to win Lizzy--until he "observed Jane closely" and knew her feelings were real.

I love this scene! Funny how Mr. Darcy was willing to marry into her family, but didn't want his friend to marry Jane! 'We are all fools in love'.
