When people talk about Layne it's always so deep and personal. I wish he knew the effect he had on people and how unique and meaningful his music was to anyone who ever heard it. There is no happy medium with Layne. You either worshiped him as the God he was, or you weren't listening. It becomes a part of you and the thought of being denied his voice would be more terrible than being denied air !! This is what perfection looks and sounds like. A once in a lifetime gift !!

Dirt wasn't about his ex-girlfriend. Dirt was about his heroin addiction that he could never get rid off, even though Layne tried his damned hardest. The reason the song is called dirt is because of the power of the opium in heroin, and when it's burnt , upon sticking the "pistol, in my mouth, on my tongue" it tastes like dirt and smells horrible "IIIIIIIIIII, want to taste dirrrrrrrrty" And on the album cover, you'll notice the dude is a metaphor of Layne and how would it affect him in death.

Stinging pistol is a symbol for a needle/syringe. In We Die Young he says "Watch the blood flow in the muddy sewers" the mud is once again heroin but this time mixing with his blood. Google images of heroin it looks like dirt and then when burnt like mud.

Dude, so fucking true, I still can't find a vocalist that encompasses and brings all emotions on the table, or makes them seem like different people with problems. That's what makes Layne so special, his ability to portray the intricacies of feeling and make them into reality. And damn, his vibrato skills on "God Smack" sounds like he's very old, eerie and evil like a Soothsayer that got the life smacked out of him by God, as if when God touches him his skin dries out like prune, just a thought.
