1: They wear the masks because of the constant threats scientology puts towards people who are critical of it.
2: They weren't looking for trouble, they got ambushed. They were there to do a completely legal protest.
3: The threats pressed towards Scientology are done by anonymous as a whole towards the church as a whole, not necessarily the group that was there sending it at that specific church. And most of the threats are pranks anyway

I like how when Fesler says "professional security", the report cuts to the guard swearing at the protester.
More importantly, Brian Fesler has been known to hang out with and have fun with Anonymous on previous occasions, and this has been duly photographed. That kind of puts the lie to his claim that Scientology was afraid of death and bombs from the protesters.
He might just have implicated himself in the assault even more.
