  • Hideous. Simply hideous. Thought i'd give it a listen as a big Jackson Browne fan but this is an absolute abomination. I feel violated.

  • parece un caballo con retorcijones...

  • I THINK HER VOICE IS SWEET'KINDA OF SEXY! I LIKE HER ;-)

  • I just noticed that i have a top comment! wow thanks guys! (",)xx my favourite song :-)

  • kinda fucking gay

  • You have to give Jackson Browne credit where credit's due. He wrote the song and all. But this version is simply just so much kinder than his.

  • The Germans have a word for what I am feeling when is listen to this song: Weltschmerz

  • Impecable.

  • Please disregard this false advert, Its not her.

.Artist: Nico, Playing at De Kleine Komedie, Amsterdam on Feb 27, 2012

  • Why is everyone talking about a scene in a movie?

  • @kzoo2ashville Because it's a damn good movie. Nothing can take away the beauty of this song, though.

  • @kzoo2ashville wondering the same thing.

  • That scene is beautifully choreographed! From the moment she steps off the bus with that sweet vulnerable look in her eyes, 2 when u see the porters walking in a row behind Richie<3

  • The intro always brings me tranquil poignancy, like a tearful smile.

  • @davidmjeong926 come on man...

  • By way of the green line bus.

  • everytime I hear it, i cannot help but cry.

  • Tiéndenos una mano y sálvanos

  • is it not a nice song?

  • Stand up straight. Let me get a look at you.

  • Niko, Volim Te

  • Altogether more beautiful than the version Jackson Browne finally recorded of this, his own song. Nico's voice was very warm and intimate during her US years.

  • By the way of the green line bus

  • I've been losing so long.

  • Nico brought me to this

  • pena lo que le paso a esta chica , hubiera llegado tan lejos...

  • A beautiful song with a, lets face it, bizarre vocal performance!

  • @plica06 kill yourself

  • @sas147741 I like this song a lot and Nicos vocal delivery here IS a bit unusual. Maybe you aren't a native English speaker so don't notice her exaggerated pronunciation of the lyrics, the eccentricity in her tones and her thick accent... her voice IS a bit bizarre but that gives this song it's quirky charm.

  • @plica06 I'm sorry

  • This is my painkiller. Yes, pain sometimes kills the pain.

  • this kills me

  • This is a beautiful song.... Timeless.

  • this song gets me there. I don't really know where "there" is, but I know it's a windy place between autumn and spring deep inside. and when I'm there, I talk with nico as we sit on top of a cloud.

  • These days I seem to think a lot about the things that I forgot to do.

And all the times I had the chance to.

These days I sit on cornerstones and count the time in quarter tones to ten.

Please don't confront me with my failures.

    I have not forgotten them.

    etc

who writes lyrics that good these days? Great stuff.

  • this song always blows me away. The amazing lyrics, the chiming motif on the guitar to go with the "quarter tones to ten" etc. And Nico's unique voice which really grows on you and conveys a kind of innocent and sweet quality despite not being "sweet" sounding. Her voice/accent even has that slightly hollow, belllike quality like the chiming. Just very touching.

  • @coldplaygirl11 possibly a coldplay fan is not the best person to judge these things

  • @firestartertwistedfi what makes you say that? chris martin has legitimate talent for singing. nico was some chick a famous artist thought was pretty. shit, if every model was told they could sing and produce popular music, we would have a crisis on our hands.

  • @coldplaygirl11 Just engaging in some gratuitous Coldplay-bashing, forgive me...

Anyway, in all seriousness, I do love Nico - there's a world-weary experience behind her singing, you can tell she's lived every word. For me this performance is very, very deep. But I realise it's not everyone's cup of tea.

  • @coldplaygirl11 i doubt you know anything of nico's songwriting

  • @fashionablecancerrec lol kuz she didn't write this a 16 year old kid did, but i respect your counter doucheyness.

  • @coldplaygirl11

please don't say negative things about this. it's just rude to nico's memory. if you like jackson browne better, simply go to his video and talk about him. but if you want to talk on this video, please just praise

  • @evilthesaurus Well said. Great song and so sad no matter who sings it

  • Alessino Fortino just turned me on to your music - SO HAPPY HE DID! Were you part of Warhol's gang! You are all so sadly missed! What talent! You were the 60's - without you it would never have happened! THANK YOU!

  • Happy Birthday Nico (October 16) RIP

  • This is my adopted daughter, Margot Tenenbaum.

  • don't confront me with my failures. I have not forgotten them.

    Deep stuff.

  • I hate it when people qualifies a singer comparing to other singers.

  • Stand up straight. Let me get a look at you. ♥

  • One of a kind voice, so beautiful with perfect imperfections... art at its finest!

  • Tenebaum <3

  • Jackson Browne wrote it For Nico.

  • she was so good she's dead: a slight ''fly in the ointment'' , I would say!

  • JB has the far better version

  • she makes every song so damn sad and depressing...

  • Is it just me who have never agreed with society about singing? Her voice sounds great.

  • my favourite song..thank you nico and jackson browne

  • such an amazing poem/song by Jackson Browne and no one ever sang it like Nico. The song always seemed perfectly made for her, with its mention of quarter tones and so on, and her unique voice that was always kind of a quarter tone off, yet uniquely beautiful. Sung by Nico this song has such a wistful quality, it still gets me every time.

  • Beautiful in a unique way. I Think Nico can sing, perhaps not a powerful voice but she can carry a tune with a gorgeous finese that we don't see these days.

  • this song reminds me of country walks, big jumpers, mystical shops, happy times. Yet it isn't a happy feeling, as it reminds me that all of these things has ended and I must move on

  • Please don't confront me with my failures, I have not forgotten them.

  • she had great voice - i dont care what you say

  • This is just one of those songs that speak to something deep inside you. Like a good friend. And it makes you smile, doesn't it?

  • so high so high oh my

  • so beautiful in so many ways

  • i don't even know that i love her voice but this is the first time i've evver heard it and its beautiful even if no one else thinks so. Russian accents are yummmmmmy!

  • I can remember when I bought her album in the early seventies, my mother said while looking at her pic´He looks exactly like a girl´,as Nico is a boy´s name in Holland.Well, there was at least something that was funny in her life. She´s a memory for me now, just like any other. I met her twice in person for a photoshoot in de late seventiesand she wasn´t really nice to me. As if she played the role of the heroin-cocaine addicted bitchy kinda Nancy Spungen lookalike..

  • She has this monotone voice but still it touches the heart and leaves an indelible imprint :)

  • It has nothing to do with her singing or her voice or any of that crap. It's the fact that you can tell she feels something from her music. It's not just sound made to sell records. It's a person struggling with life and finding brief solace in music. It MEANS something.

When you're a kid, sure, music is just for having fun. As you get older, it becomes a source of something more and you can see right through those that feel it and those that just wanna be cool.

  • He detenido mis sueños / no haré demasiados planes estos días / estos días /

estos días me siento en las piedras de las esquinas / y cuento el tiempo en cuartos de tonos hasta diez / por favor, no me enfrentes con mis fracasos / no los he olvidado.

  • Undeniably one of the great vocal performances - what a gift.

  • I love Nico, even when she strains her voice. It even makes more real.

  • @sunchilde68, I quite agree with your every word.Beautiful comment about a beautiful song, done to perfection by the Goddess like, haunting voice of the one lady of dreams,Nico. Tears and sadness, X

  • such a most beautiful song...It reflects my life so well THESE DAYS so much it hurts beautifully...tears are a sign Im alive anyway...peace n love

  • @sunchilde68 Don't be sad. Love is around. I love this song as well.

  • @KingScuzzo thanx friend... :)

  • @sunchilde68 Where you at in the world? I'm in beautiful Athens, GA.

  • @KingScuzzo Im in Welland Ontario. Canada..a sometimes beautiful place 2..but I expect Athens would be much nicer...I could really use some time in your neck of the woods..winter has been so long here..

  • @KingScuzzo Can I find you on facebook? Maybe you could come to the sunny south?

  • yeah, you're probably right, tho it is a terrifying thought. Ke$ha's first single was funny,t o be fair. Gaga is emperor's new clothes, can't touch early Madonna, despite stealing everythign from her.

  • One of the best songs of all time. Simple as that. And the best version by far, imo.

  • Nico's voice may be an acquired taste, but I find it beautiful. This song gives me chills.

  • My brothers name is Nico To. :P

  • One of the best songs ever recorded

  • Hello, for a full Nico discography REVIEW, see my channel. Cheerio.

  • god damnit shes making me get all emotional

  • Just had the song playing in my head. So now I have it playing in my ears as well.

  • A favourite of mine ♥

  • she went for a bike ride in Ibiza (Spain), not in Köln (Germany-hometown), she fell from the bike and hit her head on the sidewalk, causing a brain hemorrhage, not neck-breaking...

  • @ssteniski She was not in Ibiza, she was in Morocco. And she didn't die instantly; she was taken to the hospital, but they had a policy of not treating foreigners. She died several hours later...

  • I love nico and these days!!it's a magic <3

  • You know what makes me sad, is that she was such a heavy heroin addict, and then about a month into sobriety she went for a bike ride in her home town with her son, and she crashed into a tree and broke her neck and died instantly. Poor Nico.

  • @thepersona100 It had been months since she didn't take anything, and she died in Ibiza because she had a bycicle accident, and when she went to the hospital they didn't notice she had an... "insolation" (don't know the word in english). So it's even worse...

  • i adore this song.. NICO!

  • Love it. Thank you for posting. Cheers!

  • Damn, nico was amazing.

  • Who goes onto YOUTUBE and makes snide remarks about performances that are such an incredibly personal thing? Are you fools for real? Listen and if you don't like it move on. You embarrass your ancestors with your idiocy. Go away.

  • Jackson Browne wrote it, and his version is amazing, but this is unique and wonderful too!

  • THIS SONG IS A MIRACLE

  • Remember you wankers nobody ever puts up a plaque for critics...

  • why do i love this song so much?

  • How old is this song?

  • @Ryankillsrabies Jackson Browne wrote it when he was 16, and he's 62 now, so that would make the song 46 years old. Calculations aside, I think "timeless" might be a better answer.

  • You people are cold. Your unknowledgable comments about her singing, show what amateurs you really are. Singing is artistry, style. I have heard all of the versions. I don't care what any of you say. No one can top Nico's version. Singing is style and yes the voice makes the whole record. Nico's version will outlast all the others and your amateurish comments will do nothing to change that.

  • @74sodapop Chille out,. You're quite right, its way better than Jackson Browne's original. By the way, ecRUDEpunk said she was a junkie, that was sadly true at the later stage, but its fairer to simply say she became a victim of drugs and the drug culture around her, her "friends" failed to protect her.

  • some answers and responses to other comments:

    1. nico was german, so part of her voice is her accent

    2. she was a junkie

    3. nico never authorized the string arrangements. when she heard them she actually disliked them. I think they are awesome but oh well

  • Did she get to record this on her 'special day' ?

  • When I imagine what it would be like to hear a Llama sing a song, this is what I imagine.

Try it... Close your eyes and picture a Llama singing this song.

  • @SynePDX youre obviously deaf as well as stupid

  • @eamonosu why are you making fun of the handicapped?

    Derp a herp de derp

  • @SynePDX i just berst out laughing! hahahahahh tah hah ah

  • I've never heard a song that hits quite as hard as this.

  • I want to thank movie director Wes Anderson for using this music in " The Royal Tenenbaums"....what a great movie....from that movie I became aware of Nico and Nick Drake(pink moon).

My fav Nico songs are "the fairest of the seasons" "somewhere there's a feather" "these days" . These songs and the ways she sings them is really touching....I just listened now and had a few tears from how it made me feel....not many artists can do that.

  • Sometimes the most interesting vocalists are the ones who may not seem exceptional, but there voices and how they approach songs is what makes them interesting.

  • This song sung by Nico still brings me to tears for over 25 years.

  • how can a song made by 16 years old boy sound so believable in this heroin tired all-seen voice. it´s beautiful magic and it just works. browne is a genious.

  • Alison Stratton of "Young Marble Giants" was most probably very much influenced by her singing.

    Depressive?

C´mon, she has a natural singing voice.

She already appeared in Fellini´s La Dolce Vita in 1959/60 and had seen and experienced a lot before she got into the company of Warhol.

i´ll never comprehend why people get on H but when i hear her voice i forget about it !

  • Any reason Jackson doesn't get an upfront credit for writing this?? Nico could never write a song like this.

  • @juliekstroup Do you know Nico? what a stupid thing to say.

  • @SkotNewbower Nope don't know her - just know that Jackson Browne wrote this beautiful song and allowed her to record it as he was dating her. And that mostly everything she performed that was successful for her was written by other people. Just saying, a songwriter she is not.

  • Not heard this song, well the album for best part of 30 years, brings back memories of bein off work lyin in bed..really was in a fix on account of amphetamine havin made me sick. These days I sit wonderin where the last 30 years have gone

  • @talkrite

I'm with you, she really can't hold a tune in a bucket. Not sure how anyone can be "mesmerized" by this, frigging horrible.

  • @fethard1 damn right, she ruined it

  • Whatever you think of her singing, she's still a hell of a lot better than this Lady Gaga character. Or that creature that sings "Tik Tok".

  • @daven58100 oh you mean justine bieber?

  • @boiledgermanfood Her too. LOL.

  • @daven58100 To be fair, I dont' think anyone has ever seriously thought Lady Gaga, let alone Ke$ha, was better than Nico!

  • @baboon2525 Bet their fans do. Could be wrong though.

  • @daven58100 check out the tallest man on earth, he may not be a hippie but he can put the emotions into this song that is so truly deserves, in my opinion ;)

  • @ThelastJohnSilver

thank you so much! thats the version i've had stuck in mu head for months...thank u!!

  • @sobeity I know its so sweet, u should check out more stuff by him to you know...

  • to all the comments about her voice, how some of you dont care for it, or you had to get use to it, or how strange it is: i THINK Nico was partially deaf. which, if im correct, that would of course cause her to sometimes get off the notes or words. :)

  • @rocgrl87

I'd blame the drugs and tortured life style for off notes and lost words.

  • Great song beautifully sung and arranged - and I love the cover photo for the Chelsea Girl LP - the way her b/w hair "shelters" the colour photo - and that strong bottom hand!

  • I respect Jackson Brown as the singer/songwriter for this song. But as far as capturing the full melancholic message the song bears; Nico has him beaten by a mile; even by her image alone. By anyone else this sounds like a Jackson Browne song. But after hearing it by Nico; it's a Nico song. Listening hers, was almost disappointing discovering Jackson wrote it; and almost lamentable, that Nico didn't.

  • @ratscisum ..I love this version, but I still like Gregg Allman's version's, by far, is the best....Browne feels the same way..Believe it or not, Glenn Campbell does a fair job with it as well.

  • @ratscisum..By the way, Browne wrote this incredible song when he was a mere boy of 16!...How do you have such deep reflections on life, at such an early age?!! ..It's beyond me!

  • @ratscisum Jackson Browne also played the guitar on this version.

  • Comment removed

  • @ratscisum That's because she couldn't have written it. Not in a million years.

  • Goodstuff

  • her voice is an aquired taste, but very unusual and beautiful in a sad, strange sort of way...

  • I like the Jackson Browne's version way more

  • Comment removed

  • beautiful

  • I have a friend named Nico :)

    Love this song.

  • Great song, and one of my favorite versions. The Elliot Smith one is good too. This one has that lush orchestral backup though, so it's hard to beat.

  • @ MannyMUC...i think jackson browne will be rememberd coz HE WROTE it so even if nico is still rememberd for this song people will say "who wrote this" "OHHH jackson browne" so think yahh

  • You can find Jackson Browne's version on his "Acoustic Sessions, Volume 1"...And I admit, I like his version much better.

  • Nico's version will outlast all others. Who will care about Jackson Browne or Gregg Allman in 50 years? But Nico will live on - for those who look for something special.

  • Right you are.

  • this song reminds me about how I do alot of walking and not that much talking these days

  • I LOVE THIS FUCKING SONG

  • I'm in love with this song. Happy Valentines.

  • It's like what so funny about peace, love, and happiness? An IBM computer with a Garbo accent sounds pretty damn gooo....

  • the opening is so sick

  • I need to go for a shower this tune is filthy!!!!

  • killer tune!

  • its a shame more of her songs weren't as nice to listen to as this song.

  • @malrat88 nicos dope as hell her songs rock it so mad wit it. dont de respect
