Instead of recording the riff twice, can't you just dupe the riff and then pan one left and one right? New to this program and still feeling it out.

Duplicating a riff then panning would give you the same sound as just leaving the riff alone. When you pan two different takes it helps to hide imperfections and ends up sounding alot better.
