I just want to say Thank you for making this video. I just did this battery replacement and it resurrected a Zune that's been sitting in my draw for the past two years. I'm really happy that it was so easy. Took me 5-10 mins. Paying $7 beats having to buy a new mp3 player. I bought the battery kit from Amazon from Eforcity.

Hello i have a 30gb zune that i had to replace the hard drive and do a complete reset on and when it goes to install the new firmware it says it cannot because there is not enough space. error code C00D124F It is a 30gb 1 gen zune i checked it and it came up as having only 1gb and yes it is a 30gb hard drive and empty any help please

@houston34 You can generally trust international batteries. There are however kits avaliable at batteries plus in the USA, and the ads that display inside my video will direct you to sites that sell kits. Thanks for watching!

I can't even remove the little screws, with my own screwdrivers or the ones supplied with the battery. It's like they're soldered in!

@tubelixer Try using needlenose pliers to get more torque to get them out.  I can promise you that they are not soldered in.

HI. Tried this but my battery still wont hold a charge. Turns on but says "batt low" even when charged for 24 hrs. Could it be that ebay sent me a bad battery or is there something else wrong with my zune that wont allow batt to charge? Thanks for any helpful answers!

@realtubefan It sadly could be that the board isn't drawing the power from the battery properly. I'd replace the board and see if it fixes the problem.

800mah to 900mah won't increase video time from 2 hours to 5. It's only got about 10% more power. The only way that would be possible is if the old battery only kept about 350mah of charge since it was old.

As I'm sure you are aware, batteries degrade over time and lose their ability to hold a charge. The original zunes were already 2 or so years old and a standard battery only has about 400 full capacity charge cycles. Mine had been though about 2wice as many and was therefore quite worn.

Of course, but I'm sure some people who just bought one off the shelf and try this mod might be disappointed, so I'm just making sure there's light on that possibility. You should try an SSD mod. I got a 64GB SSD in my UMPC that improves battery life a bit more, but notably really reduced boot time and increased transfer/read/write speeds, along with being resistant to drops.

No, you'll have to re-soilder the wires to the "mini" zune's battery leads, but it's pretty simple and highly recomended as the battery on those goes in about 2 years and thats how old most of them are.

I just got a 120gb a month ago.  Best Buy told me that the battery will not last much more than a year and that it will cost about $80 to have Microsoft replace it each time, and suggested I get a two year service plan for $70, which would take care of two battery replacements and cover any damage due dropping, water, etc. Could someone tell me if the plan is a good idea or a waste of money (as many service plans are)? well, if you've been trying that long, you may have stripped the screws. To get them out you'll either need a smaller microscrewdriver, or needlenose pliers to pinch and twist out the screws. Best of luck, letme know how it turns out.

no, this voids your warranty and microsoft will not do it for you. My video here is a good guide though. I wish you best of luck.  P.S. all zune 30's have expired warranties at this point anyway so the only risk is one you do yourself

a fresh battery on the other hand holds up for 5 hours of video use

Im terribly sorry, but while the principle to open an 80GB zune is the same as in my flahs zune video, the battery is a different model and you can not use a 30 gb battery in an 80 gb zune. Now it is the same procedure to replace the battery and If you have the parts I'd be happy to do it for you.

its a little different, it still has a ribbon cable and battery area, but to open it you'll need a trigram screwdriver, and a flat blade to pop the silver cover off- its also a different battery, but I dont think you should need to upgrade it unless it doesnt work completely.

I have been reading people's review's about the zune,and alot of people have been saying

that the screen cracks from the battery overheating,is this possible or is it just apple fanboys?only i have ordered a zune and im slightly concerned by it.

This is apple fanboys- I have had the zune in the video for over 1 year and never had any issues. They are saything this most likely due to the issues the ipod video 5.0 Generation where battery expansion cracked alot of screens. Thanks for the comment.
