In most genre's of music bass unfortunately is usually overlooked.. unless you are living amoung the likes of les claypool, cliff burton, flea, jason newsted.

In other forms like bluegrass in which the guitar takes a back seat, but they are essential because they help immensely with timing.

Looks like a Neumann U87 Large Diaphragm, and a very well placed Rode NT5. On the subject of Dynamic vs condenser, it's really a case of trial and error, but consdenser mics will usually bring out a sensitivity and warmth in a sound that a dynamic mic will not. No good for high sound pressure applications though.
