  • So interesting, I want more...

  • And I was convinced my 27" was impressive >_<

  • What's the point of cloud, the computer just keep getting faster and being able to hold more memory.

  • HE's EviL

  • all this cloud computing is a great idea, but if the internet infrastructure isint there its going to be worthless.

your still going to need power at your fingertips for a while.

  • My main concern with Win 8 is security. As crazy as this sounds, I've always dreamt of a day where Microsoft announced the new version of Windows having a Unix-based Kernel. They could then offer some kind of emulation for backwords compatability to existing apps and then move on from there. Meh, it doesn't cost to dream.

  • question, what are flash, html5 and silverlight?

Are they all similar products for the web? Such as how Zune and Ipod are in the mp3 catgory and sandwitch and burger are in food category?

  • better battery with cloud? I donno my laptop gets shit battery life with wifi on

  • sorry but you are totally WRONG, .net will never dissapear its physically CANNOT!

  • am i evil?!!! .........no youre not!

  • Will Java come with all it's viruses installed or will it update and download them like normal?

  • Brandon, with your inside knowlege. Please do a extend video on this subject. I guess a lot of people want to know about these plans.

  • At work i'm nearly always working in a virtualised Client Servere system. My main work computer is a 1.6ghz C2D oh but a good 512mb video card. That is all the power i ever need, now i do most of my heavy computation on multiple 2.93GHz Xeon quad blades. As internet gets faster to the point WAN & LAN is seemless. Everybody would love to working in such an enviroment.

  • What's the big "hype" over these tablets and shit I mean cmon'

  • that epic screen is actually a pc connected to an epic t.v.

  • @gforguns how can i do that

  • @THEmrGooodwineSHOW I am assuming you can use a vga cable to connect the computer to the tv. If the tv has a vga port.

  • Laptop did replaced desktop on most use-case , you can only find desktop on either with gamer, developer desk or someone who grown up with it(habbit). Now tablets are set to replace laptop, so expect more mobile and tablets then laptop or desktop users.

  • @kickassdj Laptops never replaced desktops and tablets will never replace laptops.

  • @keenkennyny who prefer desktop other than gamers, video pros and scientists? for any other person laptop is obvious choice and now a days even gamers are incling towards xbox or ps. So only those scientist and video pros are stuck with desktop due to sys req, even in them most of them could be easily caught with high end laptops.

  • @kickassdj "who prefer desktop other than gamers, video pros and scientists?" Just about any enterprise for workers who don't need to be on the road, as desktops are a lot cheaper and far easier to maintain and upgrade.

And everybody else that wants good performance.

  • @ScientificBob Leaving those industries which require good performance like Entertainment (video which I already listed out) every other enterprise leaning toward laptop you can confirm it by rising ratio of laptop to pc in enterprises, price was problem long ago but now its not an big issue as overall price of laptops gone down. A person who do excel work daily doesn't need i7 processor, SSD and 16GB of ram, he rather want ext. battery with ups or laptop if he care about his work.

  • @kickassdj "every other enterprise leaning toward laptop" I'm a software engineer and do quite some consultancy and thus visit a lot of companies. I have never seen workers who don't need to be on the road with laptops. And it's not just performance, like I said. Desktops are FAR easier to maintain and upgrade. They are a lot cheaper too. A company is not gonna pay 1000 bucks if they can get the same (or even better) for 600.

  • @ScientificBob I am Software Engineer myself, I know many companies still got desktop but that is only cause they already invested lot on such build, today you can easily get decent laptop in 500bucks, which wasn't the case few year back. + you get 2-3 hour battery backup + display + take less area + Wireless inbuilt. Laptop doesn't lot more than just for use outside, portability within building is also advantage.

  • How the hell is running a JavaScript on top of HTML 5 on top of a Windows OS be faster and more efficient than running native apps? That the part I don't get. And if everything is working inside HTML5 would you be better off with a backbones that got a smaller footprint like a Linux kernel?

  • @TheRanblingjohnny I guess it would be better for developers -- fusing web development and desktop application development. Like windows forms and web forms tried to do. Maybe one would use the same devlopment environment for web and for desktop apps -- like visual c# for both instead of visual c# for desktop and visual web developer for web...I am only guessing but it sounds great to me (devloper point of view).

  • @metallitech Flash CS5.5 already is able to make fused web development and desktop application development. Flash CS5.5 can export EXE files , AIR apps , Android apps, iPhone apps , Mac DMG file , and web apps . Flash CS5.5 is a tool for artist , animators , and programmers ... HTML5 is a tool for only programmers , and has No brush tools, NO animators , NO bone tools, and NO 3D tools... Flash has all of this and MORE.

  • @maw88ify lol I was talking about proper programming, not flash. Web aps are made in c#, php, sql etc.

  • @maw88ify Flash sucks and has serious security issues.

Speaking as a software engineer, hell will freeze over before I target flash as a platform.

  • Are they going to fix the dumb logon screen for corporate users? I wish they'd make it like it was in XP.

  • @alanstryder As far as what the UI will look like, I expect it will be very similar to Windows Phone 7. And MS knows that they have business customers that will be very concerned with privacy. So I expect there will be an option to disable any cloud computing. Or an option for administrators to run their own servers used for cloud computing.

  • Cloud just makes it easier for authorities to get access to your data without search warrant.

  • Is that a monitor or a tv screen?

  • That is a bad ass flat screen.

  • @freestuffetd Yeah, true. I use my 42" LED TV (fullhd) as my PC monitor too. Bought it for 300 bucks and was worth every cent. Monitors R.I.P.

  • @freestuffetd yeah i hate him lol :)

  • I don't like how this guy talks about things he is not sure. He just talks like he is sure of everything. Remember "Super Video" cable?

  • who care of desktop??? i want a small system that run fast to just play my games... i have to disable a lot of things when i install windows already... now i have to disable those too on windows 8... i want directx on linux :(

  • @zizzu2000 have you ever heard of WINEhq?

  • I like how everyone is making judgements about Windows 8 when clearly they are all speculation. Know one knows how Windows 8 is going to turn out or what the UI is really all about, so far all they have shown is the tablet-specific OS and not the fully fledged desktop version so we don't know what's going to happen. Wait till BUILD next month when hopefully all will be revealed, then we can make proper judgement based on full facts. We should give MS a chance, and stop with the mindless bashing.

  • Im not going to lie i dont think you need to use your pc on that tv/monitor im sure you can see everything just fine a little bit smaller ;)

  • Flash CS5 already makes cloud apps look at "SUMO Paint" all made in

Flash.HTML5 is about 10 years behind Flash and will not be ready any time soon.

Adobe Edge vs Adobe Flash CS5.5 you will see Flash is an Artist / programmer tool , and HTML5 is mostly just for programmers , and well never have the great art , and animation tool that Flash CS5.5 has.

  • Bad resolution for such a large monitor I think.

  • @ruhulaminutube That's because it's a TV.

  • @ruhulaminutube You are watching a web encoded video shot with a camera 10 feet away, with me in front of it, how could you possibly judge the resolution?

  • Comment removed

  • @BlackwaterOpsDotCom What do you mean your in front of it? lol. Anyway by looking at the size of the windows, text, icons etc. It's a TV so its at most probably 1080p.

  • Good information but I do not want my computer applications to be "in the cloud". I want then local so if my internet connection goes down I can still use them.

  • so when you say in the cloud, your saying your processor is running someone other than your own's processors. dont you need alot of bandwidth for that. and that doesnt seem reasonable for a laptop, cause a laptop has a limited battery life and cant access internet everywhere

  • @spiceyxxwiener nope. It's basically the same as using Facebook, Twitter, or even YouTube. The back end language would handle all of the work. In Windows, they may use Java, C++, VB.NET, C#, Python to do the job which most people use Ruby on Rails and PHP to do. And since those are server side languages, all the work will be happening on the host the end user. A language like JavaScript though, will be processed on the end users computer, using up more of the CPU.

  • @spiceyxxwiener also in HTML 5 there is this capability to take the site and work offline --> divintohtml5DOTorgSLASHofflineDOTHTML

  • @EnvXOwner oh shit really? but what use is that besides saving youtube pages and stuff, to watch offline for later

  • I paused at 0:01, so that the time said 0:01/3:37.

  • Where's Chris!?

  • Nobody will want to replace the desktop OS that Windows is with a tablet OS, which will not be usable on the traditional laptop or desktop without a touchscreen. I feel that Windows 8 will be a commercial failure and that people will stick to windows 7. I DO like the idea of cloud computing, but why not integrate those capabilities into a real desktop OS, Windows 7?

  • @hackhp In Windows 8 you'll have two desktops, just as how you can have multiple desktop sessions in Linux, where you'll be able to switch from a mobile, Windows Phone 7-styled desktop to a desktop similar to what you would normally expect from Windows. This isn't new though. This has already been done in Gnome 3, where you use CSS to style the application and JavaScript to do some of the work. Then you may use Python, Java, etc to do some of the work.

  • Interesting views. I agree, exept i don't see JS being compiled, more likely there will e an improved interpretator, on that note, i don't see compiled code going anywhere for dynamic systems. JIT's are getting faster and faster. And if they find a way to streamline the JIT computations into the cloud.. well...

  • I miss the old lockergnome vidz too

  • silverlight... a microsoft only "standard" ...yeah

That was the problem with it. Silverlight wasn't everywhere so that is why it failed.

  • You have a giant fucking computer!

  • @SCIFIguy64 Its a tv screen

  • @SCIFIguy64

    Thats his monitor

  • dont mean to spam or anything but if anyone wants a website building cheap then personal message me

    thanks :)

  • I miss the old LockerGnome....

  • HTML is not a proper rendering engine. JavaScript is not a proper scripting engine. CSS is not a proper styling engine. This will do nothing besides slow the OS down fifty-fold and open rooms where lazy developers leave holes for JavaScript injections. Windows gets enough viruses already.

HTML takes time to parse; this page takes about a second load in Firefox and half of a second in Chromium. And I have a relatively fast CPU (3.4GHz, 4 cores). CPU requirements don't just disappear.

  • u go how apple copy everyone but when u look at windows 8, its doing exactly what apple have done with lion, they merged the phone and desktop os

  • @ThatAccount100 That's just silly! Microsoft was headed in this direction long before OS X existed. It's why internet explorer was integrated so tightly with the desktop in the first place.

Don't get your apple-fanboy panties in a bunch. They've been very good at finishing developed items such as the ipod, ipad, but Apple's hardly known for innovation.

  • @johnedwards1968 and i guess that why computers have an interface, wrong PC may have started with code but apple started with an interface then everyone hopped on the band waggon

  • @ThatAccount100 Are you seriously trying to give Mac the credit for the modern windows style interface???

    Read some history little Mac-head!

  • @johnedwards1968 are you seriously tryna give windows credit for the shitiest browser ever that only 5% of the world population use

  • @ThatAccount100 No, of course I'm not! Why are you trying to change the subject? Is it because the Mac interface was NOT the first windows-style interface, and you tried to give them credit for it anyway?

    Apple's NOT an innovator.

  • @ThatAccount100 By the way, a simple google search shows Internet Explorer is by FAR the most used browser in the world, with 40.9% of the browser market. Do you research ANYTHING before you write it down?

  • @johnedwards1968 seriously get a life

  • @johnedwards1968 Internet Explorer is the most used browser, because MOST people don't even KNOW what a browser and DON'T KNOW there are even more browsers out there. Just like Windows is the most used OS , because MOST computer users have no clue that there are over 700 OS in the world like Mac OSX, Linux Mint, PC-BSD , Fedora Linux , and Linux , and BSD are free. Linux also doesn't need anti-virus software. Internet Explorer is SLOW, and Windows is one of the worlds slowest OS .

  • @maw88ify also internet explorer does most jobs very adequeately.

  • @maw88ify I was responding to someone else's comment, not endorsing explorer OR windows. I've used many different variations of Linux (I prefer kubuntu), and see no reason other than lack of commercial software, to not use it full time.

Windows had a huge head start, and has a tremendous advantage over either Linux( and all other open-source OS), and Mac OS X. It has better driver support than either. You can run it on YOUR hardware of choice.

Mac's are just overpriced pcs. Simple!

  • @johnedwards1968 You're funny lol. Microsoft didn't integrate IE because of this kind of thing, they did it to kill of Netscape and other competing browsers because their plan was to make it difficult for people to remove it from the system. You couldn't build apps anyway back then with HTML and so on, you needed lots of plug ins like ActiveX, which was a security nightmare and we're still plagued with it's continued existence to this day because of their vendor lock in.

  • why can i not see the source code for windows 7?

  • @mcmamac its called closed source if it was open source everyone would get the source code and compile it and Microsoft would make no money

  • @itouchhacker241 well can i not reverse engineer the files??

  • I sure hope they include the ability to run .exe files too, and the "old" interface from Windows 7

  • Apple has been pushing HTML for years. Everyone else wanted Flash. Looks like Microsoft is stealing ideas, but Apple will always be the bad guy......

  • @DeaDlyK3viN Everyone has always hated flash, we've had no choice.

  • @Worfox13 But Apple will still be considered the bad guy.

  • This is sweet, Microsoft who can't even create a standards compliant browser are going to completely mess up their already shit OS. Mac OS X FTW!

  • product. Marketing is used to push their point across of creating a need and we buy that's it. The crappy part is that all the computers and people we believe that this is good and buy into it and this will become the norm and everyone will be forced into the product. This is the technology business. Thanks for your time.

  • password to get into your account that's scary. I always am cautious when using the net but I am only one person. Having less work on your PC or Mac is great however you are not in control of your computer operations, hacking is an issue and stealing personal information, government intervention (privacy), kill switches, so this is an argument you can't win. I have yet to see any program or hardware that can stop all of that and will never have the confidence as these companies push their

  • Free websites always steal your information or use the so called agreement that you agree to because some one tells you hay facebook is cool and I am on get an account. No one is a lawyer nor reads these clauses nor understands them and just sign up. The government do your homework on this has been studying behaviors of people for decades and before would have to ask to do surveys and studies asking the specimen for the information. Since the invention of the internet and the does not require a

  • It would be better if c++ or c# replaced java because they are much more stable

  • Are your sure they are not working with the cia??? Oh wait a minute they are. Not convinced google it. Your a techy kind of person how's your android or I phone does it send signals letting people know where you are. Could the government, police or anyone else see your text messages and know how you think. I am not trying to be a troll but it appears that our governments are corporations are working together creating a need for products but placing controls and I call it stealing information.

  • @alanstryder The difference here is that OSX Lion is still a purely desktop based OS. It's just taken some cues from iOS where it makes sense, and I have to say, it works very well. Windows 8 is going the typical Microsoft direction... ie, they don't have one. They're just playing catch up and getting it all wrong. Why they're using Windows is beyond me, when they have WIndows Phone 7 sitting there that's PERFECT and MADE for tablets. They haven't got the message that desktop OS on touch = fail.

  • I see this guy getting all the whores as well.

Believe it or not there is a difference between a lady and a whore.

  • You're not evil!

  • these videos are realy good and interesting! Keep up the good stuff :)

  • They should name it Windows 2012

  • This new IU isn't replacing anything. Its essentially a full screen browser that your apps will create a link to so you can do certain things within it. It's made for tablets and other touch screens. Windows will be the same under it, and I'd be rather surprised if anybody actually uses the new UI for long after getting it. Things like Office are still the same as they were. Microsoft don't seem to have any goals, they're just throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks. It's quite sad really.

  • 1:30 Aeroplanes operate in the cloud as well. I've seen one in a cloud.

  • soooooo what's next for windows is to become like Chrome OS? oh man i'm not upgrading

  • beat flash :s, dont see alot of website using it?

  • @macpduff Well i have more than 2 PCs in my House runing wXP W7 and vista so...

  • I don't find Silverlight as annoying as Flash Player. I'm on a Mac, so Flash Player has loads of bugs but Microsoft Silverlight somehow doesn't have all these bugs...

  • Well its not whats next for windows, but its whats gonna happen to windows and thats death. And im not a MacFag (Always used windows), just they're laggins behind the competition

  • Great :P

  • how big is it?

  • I just hope this wont effect gaming. A lot of us play high graphics games that need to be saved locally. Seems like a lot of "innovative" changes coming in the future don't take gamers into consideration.

  • @wolfeedarkfang Cloud already affects gaming.. good example - OnLive.

  • @funky3ddy Since I don't use that I don't know but doesn't that still require local install of the games? I use Steam so i don't know.

  • @funk3ddy Ah ok I just read the wiki page on it. Sounds it's all on the cloud and if you have a low end PC capable of watching videos you can play pretty much anything streamed as a video feed or something. Sounds neat. I wonder if theres lag issues involved with the streaming. I once tried to hook a PS2 to my PC using a RCA-USB box and it had 2 seconds lag between control input and visual output. It felt unplayable lol.

  • @wolfeedarkfang Really depends on your internet connections latency. Basically when latency is low client will not allow you to actually even login to the service. In perfect scenario, the lag is not noticeable.

Anywayz, you can always check Free Trial :) Just sing up, download client, test-trial your game of choice.

  • @funky3ddy ..basically depends on distance, how far you are located from their closest-to-you server.

  • @wolfeedarkfang Nope.. nothing is stored and executed locally, everything is in the cloud, client just transmits your keypresses, you receive live video feed with your gameplay.

  • Can't wait for Windows 8, great vid by the way!

  • Mac will be my next computer... bye Windows.

  • @leoviper Great choice!

  • I really don't like the way Microsoft is going with Windows 8. I only really use my Windows 7 computer for gaming and some server work now that I have a mac machine and I shouldn't imagine I'll be upgrading it without a push.

I just don't like the idea of mixing the cloud into desktop computing. I know it may sound a little "old-school" now, but I just want everything to be local for me to access and use.

  • Microsoft is cutting off their own foot, not as an apple user, but my opinion is that having code now being interpreted instead of executed is telling the devs to get stupider! My friend who was pro MS and anti everything is switching to linux cause he said windows made a bad mistake... I think you as a community should tell them they should they need to stay the way of XP with touch scrren support, over screwing themselves...

  • i dont think i like W8 or maybe its because i dont fully understand it :P

I prefer my desktop experience over a gimmicky mobile desktop thing

  • This is very relieving for a young programmer... I don't like C++ and Java, it's too much damn work! For pros those languages will still be used on desktops though for performance and stability.

Coming, from Java, JavaScript is a piece of cake.

Do you think html5 and JavaScript will ever power some iPhone apps? That'd be great.

  • @dbmarquand The iPhone does runs webkit natively (for the Safari browser), thus, it runs both HTML and Javascript. Many many apps are built on top of HTML5 on mobile (iOS, Android, WebOS, etc.).

  • @dbmarquand No. The apps will still be written in proper code, not markup. This HTML5 thing is just a UI layer that integrates into the new tablet like "desktop" and will allow the application to serve some of it's (or all) functions in this new layer. The actual underlying app will be written in C++ and so on.

Apple will never abandon Objective-C for iOS apps. You can NOT beat performance or richness of native code with markup or abstracted code like HTML5 and so on.

  • Cloud will never work in Australia because the fastest internet we can get here is 7mbit per second

  • @REPOMAN24722 Lol I live in NZ and get 16mbit dw give it a few years it will work.

  • @REPOMAN24722 that's shitty

  • @Datron101 Well some areas we can get up to 100mbit but we have to pay 160 per month for 50gb

  • @REPOMAN24722 I get 8mb where i live. Only because I live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by idiots.

  • I'm ready for Mac osx 11

  • @TeenagedIpodDude wouldn't you mean mac osXI? aha cool

  • This guy is pretty awesome.

  • What if i dont want my laptop to do cloud computing even if it's running windows 8?

  • Lol "only going to use for 4 hours a day" haha

  • yay for web based applications

  • Windows 7 will be the new XP and Windows 8 will be the new Vista.

  • @0xNEVVG3N Or the next mircrosoft bob what a disater.

  • @0xNEVVG3N Except that it's really just Win 7 with a new overlay which is optional.

  • @0xNEVVG3N, How did you come to this conclusion? Windows Vista was the new XP and Windows 7 fixed all the problems in the previous two versions, so if anything Windows 8 will be the first ever Windows OS since 95 to use a new UX and the first stable and non-problematic OS that finally offers something unique to the market and can compete with OSX Lion.

  • @ilabstudios

I don't know where you were when Vista came out but Vista sucked, that's why almost everyone and major companies reverted back to XP when Vista came out. The way things are headed with Windows 8 I expect as similar situation, only this time people will revert back to Windows 7. This is my prediction, not fact.

  • hopefully the new windows won't suck as much as Vista. BTW, why has windows not been sued into bankruptcy for having ever launched Vista and expecting people to pay for it, which was a fucking joke? Microsoft knowingly launched a horrible platform and that should be criminal.

  • @HelloWalterSobchak No they shouldn't. It's dumb and technological illiterate people who buy into the bullshit. Not geeks.

  • @AciliusOperator Fuck off with your superiority complex!

  • @HelloWalterSobchak It's not that. There is elitism among those who actually understand technology.

  • @AciliusOperator ... Again ... Fuck off with your little man, Napoleon, superiority complex!

  • @AciliusOperator I fix refrigeration systems for a living. Everything from your refrigerator, to the biggest industrial AC units. But you will never hear me marginalizing people for not understanding why refrigerants condense, evaporate, and compress. Fuck you and your little man ego!

  • Windows the 1 reason it seems outdated it is. they wont let the public get advance browsers but it first windows was stolen from a xerox research group .

  • What the fuck is HTML? What the fuck is Java Script? Some geek update me pleash?

  • @GiratinaOriginAwakes Computer languages used on making websites derp a herpin derp!

  • The only thing im looking forward in Windows 8 is what it will bring to Linux via 128-bit and multitouch support

  • directX 12?

  • Windows 8 better be bloody amazing to compete with OS X Lion. It will need to be priced competitively, too.

  • ...Microsoft makes tablets??

  • windows 8 will be a total failure

a cloud based OS and cloud based just won't work for most people

because its just not secure enough, just wait when one day when windows 8 or even chrome OS is hacked and now the hackers now have access to millions of users personal info as well as info from companies that supposed to be top secret

having an online OS is putting too much trust in a single company, meaning microsoft and google

  • @vgking699 A lot of companies already do this, only they host the "cloud" on their servers. Also, this isn't the plan with WIndows 8. Some of the features will be elements of the cloud, but it'll still be a locally stored and accessed OS. The new UI is just a "layer" for lack of a better word on top of the normal WIndows desktop. This guy is hit and miss on the info he gives, and a lot of this video is miss.

  • two words. windows sucks!

  • @OMGItsMitchell 4 words. Your opinion is irrelevant.

  • Computers MAC, Phones ANDROID.

  • wtf? no mention of MS Singularity?

  • When will HTML five video embedding replace Adobe Flash?
