  • Thomas Tallis may have been very fortunate to have heard Angels singing, as this is as close as you can get and the experience though brief is one you will never forget. For Tallis in his time to have said, that this is where he got his inspiration from. May have lead to his burning at the stake for heresy or witch craft.

  • I don't think any god has anything to do with the greatness of this, and it truly is great.I think. I'm sure if there were a god he would have been more concerned with more serious things, especially at that time in history.

  • Snowqueens Icedragon, I blame you for being here xD

  • I have to find this on itunes...

  • The tenor at 2:54 (qui iraceris) gives me the creeps <3

  • I am freaking out. I have to sing this...high soprano choir 3. Anyone else sung that part? Any advice? Actually, any part. What's it like?

  • @thecurledfreckle there is a site that has a midi of each seperate choir so you can learn it easier. search "spem in alium midi" and on google and hopefully you will find it :)

  • 0 dislikes. I'm proud of you guys for having a good ear for pure music <3

  • @BadEgg55 We don't care, what have you got in your ass...

  • Yay for MotU -and Icy for educating us! :D

  • I saw the Tallis Scholars perform some years back....It was like being in the presence of a heavenly choir. One of the best performances I have ever attended. Thomas Tallis should be beatified.

  • This piece of music...comments become irrelevant sometimes..! I have a friend here (N.Wales) who has a chapel which would be a great place to perform this piece so if there is anyone interested in performing at such a location...over looking the mountains of Snowdonia..get in touch..I would so love to see it perfomed live. The closest I have got to that is seeing/hearing the Janet Cardiff istalation at Tate Liverpoo in 2003...that was amazing...true soul music...

  • MotU chapter 50 all the way! Re-reading it with this music. ;o)

  • I would do anything to hear this in concert

  • @jcbahr I would do anything to SING this in concert...except sin...hahahaha

  • @jcbahr well it turns out I will be singing this in concert in reality! I'm in disbelief! I'm so excited!!

  • @janeym can you sound anymore like a 12 year old?

  • @janeym God is really blessing you!

  • @jcbahr I was lucky enough to have the privilege to perform this piece in the Church of St. John the Divine on NYC as a part of Westminster Choir College Symphonic Choir. Such a talented group, and beautiful acoustics made this piece truly come alive. Like no other experience.

  • I feel closer to God when I hear this music. :) I suppose this was Tallis's intention?

  • @wasilaify we can't ever be positive, but God will have Himself glorified nonetheless. =)

  • @wasilaify Would it be pray in tongues? As in Corintos letter of St. Paul?

  • Thumbs up for MotU.

  • Beautiful.

  • This is amazing :)

  • This is absolutely breathtaking. Amazing in every way.

    Tallis is pure genius. :)

  • Divine singing ...

  • I had hoped you would listen to this! glad to hear you like it, and God has blessed you with an incredible gift to glorify Him, just like this composer! =)

  • so beautiful counterpoint can only be from God ...

Blessed be the Creator of the world ...

  • Wow, this is breathtaking. just beautiful

  • It's like I feel it in my bones. Almost haunting in a way.

  • @mkystich72 it is extremely moving in that way! =)

  • The first version I ever heard of this work is, for me, the best !. The reason ? ....first and foremost is the tempo - most versions last between about 9 mins 45 secs to 10 mins 30 secs or so. My favorite version lasts 13 mins 40 secs !! All these other interpretations (to my ear ) sound far too rushed . My fave version really brings out the best in it ...it is also a very clear recording so you can hear lots of variations and voices singing different lines. Usually this is not so noticable.

  • My definitive version is the Choir of Kings College Cambridge version on Decca Records

  • Just had a preview listen to it on another site ....11 mins 30 secs running time ...certainly slower pace than the average ....sounded nice ! :-)

  • I've heard previews of the kings college one and I wasn't fond of it haha

  • I havent found the version of that length as yet on Youtube so far.

  • Is there an online link to the version you are talking about? I'm trying to find an online version of Ecco Si Beato Giorno that was sung at The Proms last year (or the year before, I can't remember!).

  • I remember listening to that whole concert live two years ago- I was only 15, but I was already excited about early music, and I was extremely excited to hear spem performed live and to hear the rediscovered mass (gotta love davitt moroney...was that his name?) haha anyway to answer your question I don't know if there is an online link but I would think that by now or in the near future a recording of that mass would be released on cd or itunes

  • you've heard the embellishments....

  • this is beautiful :')<33

  • Thanks for posting!!!!!!!! I am so happy you did this, and so happy Tallis wrote this. I heard this on the radio while driving and could not stop listening, eventually just driving in circles until it stopped. Unbelievable work.

  • great story, I think I would have done that myself haha! you're welcome!

  • heaven will the greatest thing we will ever experience...Eye has not seen...nor ear have heard...

  • yes i know that haha but its just so beautiful, isnt it?

  • Would this be playing 24/7 in Heaven? That'd be quite a drag. Heaven sounds like the best DnB gig I've been to in a while, but I'm talking about Hospitality at Heaven.

  • I've heard the real angels of Heaven sing. It was when I was about to kill myself. I had had enough of this life and I remember asking God to forgive me of my sins and I heard it as plain as day what sounded like a Billion voices singing a peaceful, happy harmony and it was the most beautiful, indescribable sound anyone could ever hear. It wasn't anything like this though.

  • God bless!

yeah, i do have another recording from a church service when the congregation believed that angels started to sing along, it's amazing!

  • wow.. what recording is that?

  • well it was just a random file on the internet, so I don't really know. =[

  • Don't quote me on this I think it is the sixteen and it may well be the 1999 recording

  • oh haha sorry we were talking about a very strange paranormal recording. In fact, you weren't too far off, it's the tallis scholars recording from the 1980's, i'm pretty sure the 1985 one.

  • Should have known - mind you the '85 Tallis scholars recording is just as amazing - thanks anyway

  • Nice, very nice Heaven Im sure
